  1. Thankfully I think it will be a small event so there shouldn't have to be a lot of explaining to do. Having been diagnosed with diabetes prior to learning of the food intolerances, I already managed to get over that self pity of not being able to eat what the others are eating and how to adjust to things. I was also a vegetarian for many years before...
  2. I know enough not to eat something if I can't tell what is in it. And luckily I don't get hungry often. If it were for a distant person then not going might be an option. But it's my nephew. So we have to go.
  3. I'm not a big TV person. I do like some of the court shows and some cooking shows. I really like the cooking/food shows on PBS. But I also like Chopped, Master Chef and Hell's Kitchen. I also like Restaurant Impossible and Hotel Impossible. And I like Hoarders/Hoarding.
  4. Why? It's not like hunger would make me eat something I shouldn't.
  5. I guess I have been lucky in that the last wedding I went to was something like 9 years ago. But now my nephew is planning his wedding. I already know the venue. It's a country club. I did look at the website and I see that they do catering there. I do not know if they will be required to use their caterer or not. I also do not know if they will have...
  6. It REALLY ticks me off to see that. I have learned the hard way. Read every part of the label, every time.
  7. I can not have dairy so I had to come up with another version. And we usually buy Spud Puppies because they are organic. I do mix an onion in with the ground beef and always some canned green beans because my daughter loves those. Sometimes I would put corn in there too. And often some cooked chopped celery. Instead of using a cream soup, I used either...
  8. I am not a fan of Trader Joe's. Too much of their stuff is processed on shared lines. I don't know about sunscreen. I don't use it.

    ARCHIVED Chipotle

Did the food taste good? I've never eaten there because my dad said the food was flavorless.

    ARCHIVED Seattle Doc

Puget Sound Gastroenterology. They have offices in Edmonds and Mill Creek and possibly North Seattle. I see Dr. Chaffee there. So does my dad. My daughter sees Dr. Schnier. So does my Sis in law.
  11. Yes! I try to avoid these things at home. Soy lecithin is in some things like gum. But I very rarely chew gum. It is also in some of my supplements. I am intolerant to a great many foods including all fish, chicken, mint, eggs, dairy, the list goes on and on. Because of this there aren't a lot of prepared foods that we even eat. The soy that I am...
  12. Sorry to hear that. I would not personally take Prednisone except perhaps as a last resort. That med can raise blood sugar and cause diabetes. Gluten isn't an issue for me personally but I have a ton of intolerances. It was only after I learned that I can't have things like mint, thyme and tarragon that I finally began to get better. I do take...
  13. My daughter doesn't have celiac but used to be intolerant (IgG allergy) to wheat and gluten. She could not walk through the bakery department in the store. Her skin would start to itch and she would feel sick to her stomach. I really don't know exactly what the cause was. She also has a problem with peanuts and can't be in an area where a peanut butter...
  14. Oh now this is very interesting indeed! I used to eat a lot of soy because I thought it was a very healthy thing to do. When pregnant, I developed a thyroid problem. I'd be hyper then hypo. After I had the baby, I did not get medical care. I did try but just couldn't find any good Drs. where I lived. And I was being kept hyper thyroid by my Endo...
  15. I don't drink. I sometimes get a club soda with lime. Nobody ever made any comments about it.
  16. Regular colas in the US usually have high fructose corn syrup in them. You can get some cola that is cane sugar sweetened but they would not be likely to have that in a bar. Not sure if a diet cola would work either. Not sure what the source of the caramel coloring is.
  17. I don't personally think that the food is very good. And it's expensive for what you get. Now granted I have only tried the gluten-free pasta as I am not a big meat eater. But my daughter had the pasta and a piece of chicken and loved it. The problem we have had is with the salad. Even though we reminded the waiter that we needed to have no croutons...
  18. I would say, "no". When my daughter was intolerant to soy and wheat I was using shampoos on here that contained them. They gave her a rash on her scalp. If I took a bath in Aveeno myself, the residue gave her a rash.
  19. What kind of meat is it? Gluten is not an issue for me but oats are and there are oats in their ground beef. We hadn't eaten there for years but during the dress rehearsal for my daughter's dance studio we did try it only because we were starved and it was about the only place open near there. I had the beans and they were oh so yummy! I had forgotten...
  20. As for the dedicated lines, that is often just not feasible! Gluten is not an issue for me but I do have multiple food intolerances as does my daughter. We can no longer eat things that are the Walmart brand and most of the Trader Joe's things are out for us too. These things are made on shared lines. It is a ton cheaper for these companies to have their...
  21. I used to really miss cheese. And now once in a great while I will wish I could have it. Thankfully I never liked milk, ice cream, yogurt or other dairy products. I can even live without butter. But the last time I ate cheese, I got so sick that it wouldn't be worth it to ever eat it again. I really prefer feeling good. Not having to dash to the bathroom...
  22. Someone I used to know online but it no longer with us surmised that I might have a problem with sorbitol since the fruits that give me trouble are high in it. I know I can not consume the sweetener called sorbitol because it causes stomach trouble. I can eat raw apples and pears although I very rarely do. They don't seem to cause trouble. I can eat canned...
  23. I do use a spoon to scoop out the seeds. My family won't eat it with the rind on and that is no longer recommended. They now say to wash the outside well, cut it up and discard the rind.
  24. As a child I was given watermelon quite frequently because my mom loves it. I can't stand the stuff. Then at a Boeing campout I tried some honeydew and cantaloupe. Loved the stuff. But we never had it at home because my mom couldn't stand the smell. As an adult, I had it once in a while but I was never a big fruit eater. Then my now husband and...
  25. Gluten is not an issue for me but I do have food intolerances, diabetes and other medical problems that are taken care of by diet. In a case like that I would just bring my own food. If anyone asked I would just say that I am on a special diet.
