  1. I have a Bosch stand mixer because I read that it is best for gluten-free flours. It was expensive but I have had no problems with it. Then again, I have never owned another stand mixer so have nothing to compare it with. I have heard nothing but good things about the Ninja though/
  2. I got comments from people about how they could never stick to that diet or how they would kill themselves if they couldn't eat _____. Now I am not a celiac but I do have food intolerances. And for me all it takes is the pain and/or stomach or other symptoms those foods give me to know that I will never willingly or knowningly eat them again. I am even...
  3. My first thought would be the Amy's. But... You could also have a food allergy or intolerance. I am intolerant to several foods. Just a slight amount of egg or dairy will give me symptoms like you describe. Before you do anything else, you might want to keep a food diary. Just buy yourself a cheap notebook and write down everything that you eat. Then...
  4. Yes, you do have to be careful with potatoes. My family thinks I am overeacting to ask at restaurants but I can't tell you how many times I have been told that there is wheat in the potatoes. The only things we would get at McDonalds are the sliced apples, maybe a side salad and a drink. I don't trust them.
  5. Sorry to hear that! I even had a Dr. tell me, "She doesn't have food allergies!", in reference to my daughter. What was she? A psychic? She was tested repeatedly for allergies but never for foods until I finally took her in specifically for that. She didn't have any but... She does have multiple food intolerances. And those had included wheat and gluten...
  6. I just took my daughter to the grocery store and showed her how much she could get there for the same amount of money. She thought that was a better deal. I rarely ever bought anything from the truck for her. I think at one point they had a Popsicle that was safe and a Snowcone but frankly she didn't need the junk. So it was always a really big deal if...
  7. I take a high dose. 1,000 mg plus whatever is in my multi and B Complex. I take it at bed time and it doesn't have that effect on me.
  8. Chocolate can cause migraines.
  9. For vegan I would do hummus, bean dip, salsa, assorted chips and pretzels. Maybe popcorn. A fruit plate. A veggie plate. We did Enjoy Life cookies instead of a cake.
  10. Sorry, I just now saw this. Twice we saw a Naturopath for the IgG allergy test. But that was super expensive and we couldn't afford to have it done again. This last time it was a hair test. I saw it online. Some people do not feel it is accurate but it really did work for us.
  11. Hey! I think it reached 72 here in Bothell! And we saw the sun.
  12. Ugh! It's not like a weight loss diet. That's like the Dr. who said I needed to give my kid with food allergies a break and let her be a kid for two weeks on a vacation with her dad. I was like... Let her get sick for two weeks? She doesn't WANT to get sick! Some Drs. are clueless. Yes at some point you will screw up and eat some wheat or something...
  13. Since you are eating these at work... Can you just bring the bread and peanut butter in there to eat? The other option would be to clear off a little area in your kitchen. Cover it with foil or use a paper plate or something and make your sandwiches. Then put them in a sealed container or plastic bag. Then clean the area well. Make sure that you...
  14. We did dine out but less than before. And stuck to the same boring foods that we knew were safe. Like a hamburger patty, baked potato and fruit cup.
  15. My daughter likes the little hummus cups from Costco or the Wild Garden shelf stable stuff from minimus and elsewhere with baby carrots, celery or even apple slices.
  16. Who does this test and what would cause you to have it done?
  17. I don't like dressing so can't help you there. As for the spices, I would start with some mixes such as Italian and Mexican. There is also Greek which is great if you like Greek salad, minus the cheese of course. Herbamare is also very good.I use a lot of parsley and minced onion. I use a lot of chili powder. And black pepper. And sea salt. I don't...
  18. Again, I ask... How did you find out? What kind of test?
  19. Yep! I ate some sourdough that had rye in it. Who would have thought? You might have to make your own bread at home or at least buy some from a place that doesn't make rye. I have only found one bread that my daughter and I can both eat. I can't have any dairy at all and we both have to avoid certain nuts. She can't have flax. And I can't have oats...
  20. My daughter is having very good luck with the South Beach diet. The first two weeks are fairly low carb with the only real carby thing you can eat being beans. You have to avoid processed foods and things with added sugar. And it is low fat with only good fats. So lean meats, low fat cheese, plain yogurt, milk, (if you can have dairy), non starchy veggies...
  21. High TSH could very well indicate low thryoid and you need to follow up on it ASAP! If this Dr. is an Endo., you need to see another one. If not, you need to get one.
  22. They even give the percentage of 7! How could that be considered rare? I do think the gluten-free diet is a fad for many though. I just saw it referred to in a magazine as a grain free diet. To me, grain free is something else because you wouldn't be eating rice or corn either. I do think more and more people are lowering the amount of carbs that...
  23. Using their logic, anything anywhere could have gluten on it. I could eat a sandwich then go touch something without washing my hands. But a prepared product in a sealed package? I wouldn't worry about it.
  24. I'm glad that two tested gluten-free but the pic doesn't make it look good. I think I only ever had Dominoes pizza once. It wasn't good.
  25. I'm a diabetic. Diagnosed as an adult but take 2 meds and 4 kinds of insulin. IMO, weight doesn't cause diabetes. But the precursors to diabetes, such as Syndrome X can and most likely will cause weight gain. It's sort of like the... Which came first? The chicken or the egg? That being said... There is no one diet that we all follow. There are...
