  1. I find that salad is one of the riskier things to order. They might still put the croutons on it even when you ask for them to be left off. Or they might put them on and then pick them off.
  2. Leftovers here. The other night I baked chicken breasts with a little Herbamare, freeze dried onions and gluten-free mushroom gravy. Served with white rice and green beans. I didn't make enough chicken. There was a lot of gravy left and some rice. I mixed in some canned chicken. Daughter will be eating that. I'm going to have leftover baked beans...
  3. I don't know which insurance you have. My husband is Coast Guard and daughter and I have Tricare Standard. Actually mine is the For Life now because I am on disability but it is still treated as standard. That means I do not have to see military Drs. and can see whoever I want, provided they take my insurance. Yes, a lot of Drs. do not take the insurance...
  4. It's not Ener-G. I think it might be Australian but not sure. I have the egg replacer. Doesn't seem to work very well.
  5. I bought some dough enhancer. Not sure if it's the same thing or not. I've not used it yet because I don't know what to do with it!
  6. Another possibility... If your pan is the non-stick kind, it has a scratch and was previously used to cook gluten containing foods.
  7. Mostly I would be concerned about cross contamination of foods if you are cooking gluten containing foods in that same kitchen. So maybe a dedicated pot for making gluten-free pasta and rice. If you plan on making toast, a cheap toaster for the gluten-free bread or at least some of those toaster bags. Perhaps a separate cutting board or at least some cheap...
  8. Daughter and I went there today and we were just amazed. They actually had some gluten-free items as well. I saw Bob's Redmill gluten-free flour mix and some other mixes on the baking aisle. I did not see gluten-free pasta but I also didn't look with the Asian foods. Might have been some there. But for things like produce, meat, cheese, rice, etc...
  9. I do not think you can make a blanket statement that all _____ is always gluten-free. There are exceptions to every rule. That being said, I haven't seen any block cheese that contains gluten. I might be wary of cheese that is cut from a large wheel or block and repackaged at the store because there is always a change of cross contamination, esecially...
  10. I just use google. Doesn't always work and I will sometimes get recipes that don't apply.
  11. My husband is Italian. We use rice, corn and/or quinoa pasta and he hasn't noticed the difference. I no longer use cheese in my sauces. I do buy it for him and I put it on his portion. Daughter and I used to have dairy allergies but outgrew them. So we can have it twice a week now. But that wasn't always the case. I buy the gluten-free lasagna noodles...
  12. Hmmm... I went into Pre-E two days before my due date. I was induced the following day. AFAIK though I do not have any gluten issues. Daughter does, but I don't.
  13. I just found this recipe online. Open Original Shared Link Now I know what I can do with that garbanzo bean flour I bought! Actually I bought some and lost it. Apparently I spaced out and put it in an upper cupboad instead of in my baking cupboard. So when I needed it for Christmas cookies, it wasn't there. I raced to the store (it was late at night...
  14. Is this something local? Does it have egg? I can't have egg. Prior to that I did the Ener-G, but... I prefer to bake those with just some olive oil then top them with hummus, onions, tomatoes and Kalamata olives. It is good that way. Not so good as pizza.
  15. We survived the convention. Didn't get the refrigerator as promised. There was a mini bar in the room but we couldn't put anything in it because there are sensors in it. Next time I will bring a hard sided cooler. That is what the other people did. I didn't bring much that needed refrigerated but I did have to throw out the baby carrots. We were able...
  16. My mom is doing ham. I won't eat that. And deviled eggs. I'm allergic. So I won't be having those. There will be dessert that I can't eat. And probably some other things that I can't or won't eat. But there are always raw veggies and perhaps a lettuce salad. I will have those things. I'm bringing baked beans with bacon. Might bring some cheeses...
  17. Sorry, I just don't know what types of foods Whole Foods sells. Central Market does have a cold food bar and some prepared food that lists all allergens. For daughter we usually get chicken breast and white rice or potatoes. I believe they have a microwave there for heating but we've never used it. At PCC Natural Market there is also chicken breast...
  18. I don't mind the Amy's if it is doctored up with enough cheese and seasonings. But... I prefer to make my own on Schar's crust. I start with a really good pizza sauce and use quality cheese. I also use some pizza seasoning and on mine I put pine nuts.
  19. The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook is great!
  20. I've never been to a Whole Foods so I am unfamiliar with their salad bar. I do eat from some salad bars but I am careful. I do not take anything that is bordering my allergens nor do I take anything that looks like it has other food slopped into it. What my daughter and I do if we eat at Central Market is get a small bag of baby carrots and some hummus...
  21. Always ask if the fries contain wheat. I've found that not only can the curly fries contain wheat but the waffle fries as well. Then if they don't contain wheat, ask if they are cooked in a dedicated fryer. If the answer is "no" then they certainly could be cross contaminated.
  22. It depends. Some have gluten and some don't.
  23. I have Fibromyalgia but not Celiac. My Fibro. was waaaay worse when my thyroid was out of whack. I take MSM. That really seems to help with the pain. Currently taking 500 mg each morning and night. Was taking double that when the symptoms were bad. I use Aspartame in the form of Diet Coke. Doesn't seem to affect me. I find the best way to keep...
  24. My daughter is 12 now. Doesn't have OCD (not so as I can tell anyway) and is very careful about her allergens. People who do not have allergies do not understand and sometimes even when they do, they do not understand. Just the other day I was told by someone with gluten issues (not sure if it is an allergy or celiac) that if my daughter or I got desperate...
  25. I guess I am lucky. I no longer work and food there isn't an issue. But when I did work? I was a vegetarian and for many of those years was on a self imposed, strict diet because I was trying to lose weight. The food we were provided was either sandwiches or pizza, donuts, muffins, cinnamon rolls, maybe bagels. None of those foods interested me at...
