  1. We've made this with alternate nut butters and coconut oil. Daughter loved it but I didn't like it at all. Waaaay to sweet for my taste.
  2. The Albertson's in Clearview, WA has a fairly new gluten-free section. There isn't a lot in it. But the biggest complaint I have? They have other gluten-free stuff in other places. Like the Tinkyada pasta. It's not with the regular pasta either, but with the organic stuff. Why not put all of the pasta together and let us choose? Makes shopping very...
  3. My daughter's favorite food at that age was canned green beans.
  4. My daughter was 6 when she was diagnosed. She has allergies and not celiac. I bought her books about food allergies and she refused to have anything to do with them. I wound up donating them to the school when they were asking for books. I don't really know why the books upset her so much. She does like it when we find gluten-free products in regular...
  5. Some of these are gluten free: Open Original Shared Link The store at this website here has some cooked pasta in sauce both in cans and pouches. This site has some gluten-free things and if your order is $20 or more there is no postage. Daughter likes the salami slices, hummus and apple bars. Hormel chili, beef stew and tamales are gluten-free...
  6. She can have gluten free cake and gluten free stuffing. If she has the wheat based stuff, she could not only be sick for many days (I don't think most people feel better the next day) but would be damaging her body further. Also some people do not notice the ill effects but just as much damage occurs. Yes, mistakes will be made and she will at some point...
  7. Yep. He has too. He will even complain about it.
  8. I'm from the Midwest. There, popcorn is a food group. We ate it pretty much every day. Sometimes for dinner my mom would put it in a tall glass, top it with milk and give us an iced tea spoon to eat it with. She liked it like that. I did not. Not at all. I don't even like milk on cereal. Or milk, period! Some people put it in a bowl, put sugar and...
  9. My husband doesn't understand. He thinks the gluten-free food is special and he knows it's more expensive so he thinks it is better. He always complains that my daughter gets the "good" food and he gets the "cheap" stuff.
  10. I know of adults who developed IgE allergies to nuts as adults. Sadly I know people who do not believe in allergies at all. One family used to laugh at us for our allergies. They were our neighbors. We believe they too had allergies because they had "colds" that never went away.

  12. Great! That's good to hear!
  13. I too was allergic to dairy as a baby. I couldn't even have goat's milk. Then for some reason my mom insisted that I drink milk. And she let me have cheese. Sometimes insisted that I eat ice cream even though I've always hated it. I grew up being sick to my stomach all the time! My mom would comment on it and laugh saying things like, "You are the urpiest...
  14. I'm not celiac but have had this problem off and on. It was bad when I was a kid. I would sweat at the drop of a hat. For some reason, shopping would do this to me. I hated trying on clothes because I would get soooo overheated. Then when I was pregnant, I developed a thyroid problem. The overheating was severe. It was so bad I demanded that my...
  15. I got these for my daughter: Open Original Shared Link Some are gluten-free and DF. Canned Organ pasta or Allegroos. May have to order online. Vienna Sausages. One of my daughter's favorite quick meals is Uncle Ben's roasted chicken flavor rice. It's precooked in a pouch. Just zip it open, add canned chicken and have a meal. Add gluten...
  16. They provided snacks? Wow! The hospital I gave birth at certainly did not. I don't need a gluten-free diet but I was on a vegetarian diet at the time and it was next to impossible to get a vegetarian meal. I can only imagine how hard it would be to get a gluten-free one! What they did have was a little kitchette that we could use. So I brought my own...
  17. My husband did this once to my daughter in a restaurant. He was eating a big wheaty sandwich and he grabbed something off of her plate with his wheaty hands. You should have seen how big her eyes got! She then shoved her plate to him and said, "It's yours now!" He got kind of mad then. And I still don't think he *gets* it, but he knows not to grab something...
  18. Imagine and Pacific both make gluten-free tomato soups. One does contain dairy though. Sorry, I can't remember which one. I always have to read the labels.
  19. I have diabetes and my daughter has a wheat allergy. She can eat more carbs than I can. I do still eat carbs. I just have to limit them.

    ARCHIVED Taco Time

Egads! I could only get part of the allergen menu to work, and not the taco portion. I could swear that I looked them up before and they were fine. But I could also swear that the Mexi Fries were safe too. And now it clearly says there is wheat in them. We just had some last week too. Daughter didn't get sick! But hers is an allergy and not celiac...
  21. We have eaten there but for the most part we find the food quite disgusting. My husband had a windshield replacement and with it got a bunch of coupons for free food there. We used one of the coupons once. We got three orders of beef fajitas. The meat was tough and inedible. The vegetables overcooked to the point of being mush. We did eat the beans...
  22. Coconut Oil.
  23. My daughter is not celiac but she has IgG allergies to wheat and some other foods. The typical skin prick at the allergist did not show an IgE allergy. But wheat is still a problem for her. My mom is not a celiac nor does she show any kind of allergy to wheat. But she still can not eat it. She has Rhuematoid Arthritis and for that reason must avoid...
  24. On the episode I saw tonight, they stayed late to make 24 gluten-free cupcakes. They told "Mommy" to sterilize a scraper. It appeared to be silicone. They did take precautions such as cleaning everything and mopping the floor. But I would still be concerned about cross contamination because there is normally so much flour in there!
