  1. Thanks. I have tried various gummies but Angela hates gummy things. She will swallow pills though.
  2. Just a thought... Could you have OAS (Oral Allergy Syndrome)? I have it with some nuts but it is very common with fresh produce too. The body mistakes the food for a pollen. For instance, celery is related to birch. If you have OAS your body might react to raw celery. But you could probably eat it cooked. I have a problem with most fruits. A person...

    ARCHIVED Good Snacks

We like popcorn. I pop it in olive oil. Dried fruit or other fruit snacks. I buy bags of sliced apples and baby carrots from Costco. Also individual cups of hummus. Can put them in a cooler. Otherwise shelf stable individual hummus that I get at minimus.biz. We also like green beans and other canned beans such as kidney. Not so good for eating in...
  4. I have a hard time getting my daughter to take her vitmains. And I do feel that she needs to take them. The Dr. said especially she needs more vitamin D. She will drink vitamin water once in a while and I let her have the sugar free kind. She was taking Mega Teen. But I bought so many bottles, they expired before she took them all. Had she been taking...
  5. I don't know the Idaho law. Here in WA it is a health code violation to bring in food. However I do see people bringing in baby food, bottles and sometimes sippy cups. In the case of the bowling alley, I would probably just order a cake from them for the other kids, bring your own cupcake and not even ask about it. Chances are they wouldn't have noticed...
  6. Oh yeah! Not only did I take two cooking classes in Junior High but I was also the assistant for the 7th grade class. Plenty of food went flying around. Eggs were a favorite. The other favorite thing to do was to dump some water on a person and then flour because the flour would stick to them.
  7. My daughter is in Junior High and there is no such class offered. This year she is in 7th grade. Her gym class does have some days where they do other things. One of which was to cover nutrition. They only worked on it for a week or two at the most. No actual food was involved. Mainly they learned how to eat a balanced diet. And apparently that involves...
  8. You will need to cut out all gluten. When I was your age I pretty much lived on trail mix that I made myself. Nuts, seeds, coconut, a little dried fruit, maybe some chocolate or carob chips. It was cheap and filling. I also ate a lot of spaghetti. You can buy spaghetti made of rice or corn. It does cost a little more than the wheat kind. I...
  9. I don't know about the mortar and pestle. Mine is made of marble and that's porous. So I would think that could be contaminated despite washing. You could try covering them with a thick foil. Not sure if that would work or not. As for other allergens such as soy, there are two kinds of tests that could be done. An allergist can test for IgE allergies...
  10. I don't have to be gluten-free. My daugher does. For the most part I do eat gluten-free along with her but once in a while I have my cereal or bread. I was a vegetarian for many years. I loved the diet. LOVED it! But I kept getting anemia. So now I find I have to eat meat a couple of times a week. Otherwise most of my meals are still vegetarian...
  11. What a bunch of hooey! My friend's dad is not only a celiac but a diabetic. So he has to watch his carb intake as well. One is certainly able to eat a gluten free diet and not take in excess calories. I know plenty of diabetics who eat low carb to really low carb diets. They eat things like meat, fish, eggs, cheese and low carb vegetables. Their diet...
  12. Oh boy does this sound familiar! My mom has to avoid wheat and nightshades for her arthritis. And then she has multiple food allergies. She'll order a waffle after announcing that she is avoiding eggs. I won't even mention the wheat in the waffle! I'll remind her that there are eggs in it. She will look surprised! And then try to tell me that it...
  13. Right now I plan my meals out a week at a time. I do the bulk of the shopping on Sunday, picking up what else I might need throughout the week. This works for me because it is just my daughter and I home. She has to pack meals for the dance studio at least twice a week. So I have to make sure I have food for her then. When my husband is home, we...
  14. I know what you mean. I finally got to the point where for the most part I can tune them out. Once in a while my ears prick up when I hear someone say, "gluten-free". There is one girl at Angela's dance studio who can't have gluten. Used to be another one but she isn't dancing this year. We have a dance convention coming up. I have to pack the food...
  15. This stuff is yummy! Open Original Shared Link So is this: Open Original Shared Link
  16. I don't do much any more. I used to work in retail. Became ill when my daughter was not quite a year old. End result, I'm now disabled. I do write some. Not as much as I did before I had my daughter. I used to write a lot. Mainly poetry.
  17. I use either white or brown rice flour. I tend to keep only one at a time. Whatever the current recipe calls for when I need it. The texture might be slightly different but it should work.
  18. I sure got sick of the food parties. One year I tried to be the room parent thinking I could at least control what was served. But that year the teacher dictated to me what it would be. And it was all stuff my daughter was allergic to. The teacher herself was a diabetic and there was another girl in the class with diabetes so I had hoped at least there...
  19. I'm not cooking tonight. I made a Teff wrap for daughter with a little margarine, lettuce and turkey. She is also having baby carrots and apple slices. Not sure what I'll have. Maybe a can of chili.

    ARCHIVED Snacks

When I was pregnant my breakfast was always two slices of bread or toast with an egg, cottage cheese, sliced cheese or peanut butter. I hated snacking but the dietician said I needed to. I tried to get a serving of fruit between meals. I really hate fruit. I was usually able to manage a bite or two though.
  21. My daughter likes the Ener-G Rice Starch bread. Keep in mind she outgrew an egg allergy so can't have breads with egg in them because she is allowed egg only twice a week. At that rate we'd have to throw out most of the loaf. She has tried some of the other Udi's products and liked them.
  22. We like the Schar but dangit one has eggs and now they are putting soy in the other. So not for me.
  23. I used to be like you. But I've had sooo many gluten-free baking flops that I have pretty much given up doing it. The zucchini bread recipe here on this website (not the forum but the recipe section) does work very well for me. I don't add nuts and I use ground flaxseed and water instead of eggs. Apple (or other fruit) crisp works well by using a regular...
  24. I'm not the one with the gluten issues. But I don't usually eat a big breakfast. Today I had cottage cheese and toast. Sometimes I had cereal. Yesterday I had an upset stomach so just plain rice. Sometimes I have polenta with tomato sauce. Daughter is the one with gluten issues. She doesn't much like breakfast. Lately she has been eating apples...
