Where is Newcastle? I will keep looking but so far no luck in Edmonds, Lynnwood, Bothell, Mill Creek or Woodinville. Not sure I could really use it though because I can't have eggs.

ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
She really only buys sensible things. I never have to worry about what she would buy with it. She already has a charity fund. Any money that she finds in the street, or on a store floor or wherever, or any money that people give her gets donated to help various cats and dogs. Either senior pets, homeless pets, or pets who live with senior citizens who... -

The car fund sounds like a good idea. For some reason she really knows about cars. She can point out and does, various makes and models and she can tell at a glance whether a car is old or new. She also seems to know when the new models come out. She just identified a new VW yesterday. I keep telling her when she needs to get a job with her uncle when... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!

Thanks for your suggestions. I guess I am just as hard to buy for. There really isn't anything I need. I did already ask for a certain type of clothes hanger. My intent is to replace all of the tubular ones and perhaps my pants hangers with these. They are the velvet covered ones. So far I am just doing a little bit at a time. I just wish daughter... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!

To us that is what it is about. We are not religious. I got her gift cards last year. She wasn't too thrilled. As for restaurants, she doesn't have a favorite one and really hates going out to eat. She doesn't like museums either, nor do I. At this age, she doesn't really like going out with me either. But she also doesn't want to be left off somewhere... -

She already knows how to use makeup but just doesn't use it. She takes a stretch class. She thinks belly dancing is silly. I did ask her about it already. The slumber party might work but I can see it as being a problem too. We can not have one here at the house. Our house is just too small. The one she had was at a hotel but had a limit of four kids... -

She already has a camera but never uses it. She doesn't understand the certificate of deposit. She has gotten them before and to her they are no big deal. Just like cash is no big deal for her. She is good at saving. She doesn't like to spend. I do get her an ornament every year. That way when she moves out she will have quite a few for her tree... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
She already got rid of most of her things this summer. What she has left is birthday presents that are in a bag and a few gift cards that are in my purse. I think she has a hard time getting rid of the things because she feels the gift givers will get mad at her. And often they do! She tried the knitting thing a couple of years ago and hated it. Thanks... -

She already has two pairs of Uggs. Doesn't ever use her room. Already has the highlights. Isn't interested in any of the other things. But thanks! -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
She has a digital camera that she got several years ago for her birthday. It's still in the package and she shows no signs of ever wanting to use it. So the digital picture frame would be of no use. She has a cell phone. Doesn't use it either. As for the shows... She does want to see the Nutcracker because a girl she knows is in it. However it is... -

I have seen those but doubt she would use them for anything. She plays a couple of the free games on there but mostly just chats with friends. Thanks though! -
It's that time again. I like to shop early. And this year I am pretty much at a loss for everyone. But mostly for my daughter. She turned 12 in July and hasn't even used or opened most of the gifts she got for her birthday. I think she is just at a hard age. I know some girls her age like makeup, perfume, clothes, shoes, etc. She is not at that point...

ARCHIVED Rice Bloody Krispies
Juliebove replied to realmaverick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There's a similar cereal that is gluten-free. I believe it is by Erewon. Rice Chex are also gluten-free. Also cocoa and fruity Pebbles. -
We use the Vance's Dari Free. Only problem is that it doesn't really mix in super well. But daughter likes it.

ARCHIVED Suggestions For A Pumpkin Bread Mix?
Juliebove replied to Sunshine24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I bought this stuff a few years ago. Open Original Shared Link I bought both the pumpkin and cranberry. While both tasted very good, at the time I bought them there was some sort of flaw in the mix. They e-mailed me modified instructions. I can't remember the particulars now but I had to make them into bars and not loaves. I haven't tried them since... -
ARCHIVED Feeding My Teens
Juliebove replied to jeanne-'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I could not find them at one Costco. We ended up going to another one in a different city. The one we used to go to is in a really high crime area. After we were approached by a seedy guy for money and then a purse snatching at about the same time, that clenched it for us. What we discovered at the other store is that the indivual cups are not with... -
We have been tending to go overboard on it twice a week, having it at every meal. Our allergist does not believe in IgG allergies. I just don't want the allergy to come back. The naturopath said if we eat too much of any one thing, the allergy can come back. In fact she said if we eat too much of any one thing ever, we can develop an allergy to it....

ARCHIVED Feeding My Teens
Juliebove replied to jeanne-'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I buy the individual cups of hummus from Costco. If I can't get to Costo or they are out, I just get a tub or two of hummus from the grocery store. Daughter likes to eat it with baby carrots, potato chips or Fritos or oddly, apple slices. She also likes bean tacos. Canned refried beans put into corn tortillas, maybe with a drizzle of salsa and microwaved... -
Daughter and I both have IgG food allergies. She outgrew some of hers and the Dr. (naturopath) told her she could now eat these things but only twice a week and not on subsequent days. Later, the same Dr. told me I had outgrown my dairy allergy. But she told me that I had best not eat it again. I was fine with this for a while. It had been easy for...

ARCHIVED Oat Bran? Need A High Protein Shake.
Juliebove replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've seen gluten-free oats but not gluten-free oat bran. Chia Seeds are easily digestible and high in protein. They can be used as is or mixed with water and allowed to gel overnight in the fridge to get all the amino acids out of them. I've added them to smoothies for my daughter. I don't have an actual recipe. I would just use my Magic Bullet.... -
I like to do the salad bar for lunch. If the weather is colder, I might do chili. A quick one to make is just three different kinds of beans (canned), a can of corn and a jar of salsa, all mixed together and heated through. If there are meat lovers, I will add some ground beef. This can be served over a bed of rice and garnished with things like cheese...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Gravy?
Juliebove replied to JustCan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is a boxed gravy that is gluten-free. The brand is Imagine. You can get it online if you can't find it in the store. -
ARCHIVED But Crackers Would Settle Your Stomach!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I didn't know it either but that's probably why some Drs. tell you to have sports drinks when you are sick. She has the big D now. Had it twice so hopefully the med is getting out of her system. I gave her some plain chicken breast (it was processed so I know it had salt) and some plain white rice for dinner. I would hesitate to let her have butter... -
ARCHIVED Caramel Apples
Juliebove replied to JCastro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I once made caramel apples with Kraft caramels. Actually I remember making them as a child and don't recall any problems. But when I made them as an adult? Oh what a mess! The worst part is that the caramel hardened to the extremely hard stage. I had told all the neighborhood kids that I had them. They were very excited. I took them next door for the... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Gluten Free ? Oats Ok ?
Juliebove replied to undiagnosedillness's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The problem with lists is that you can't really go by them. Things change all the time. Plain, raw chicken would be fine. If the chicken is pre-cooked, you need the check the ingredients. Some of it does contain wheat. Even the chicken in restaurants is suspect. Most fast food chicken contains wheat even if it looks like it wouldn't. I get my daughter...
