ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't even know where her dad is at the moment. He's in the Coast Guard and was sent to help clean up the oil spill. He was in Louisiana, but called a couple of times to say that they were being evacuated. He told me perhaps they were going to Texas, but he told daughter they were going to Floria. This call came probably 15 minutes before the big blowup... -
ARCHIVED I Just Snapped!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She has food allergies and not celiac. She was diagnosed at age 6, almost 7. I think the issue she had went beyond food though. We went shopping today and while we were in Target, she did something I have asked her countless times not to do. I carry a big purse and I have to carry it on my left side. Not sure why. I do have scoliosis (that's... -
ARCHIVED Dinner Date..how Do I Break The News?
Juliebove replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would probably wait until you order. Just make sure the place you dine at is safe before you go there. -
So another thread here led me to an online store that I had been to before and I think I may have ordered some things from in the past. I found some foods that I thought my daughter would like. I ordered them. The box came. It was packaged beautifully with decorative ribbon and two sample size bags of Gummi Bears on the top. Daughter snatched those...

ARCHIVED Any Gluten-Free Bisquick Mix Sightings?
Juliebove replied to MindytheOrganist's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can't find it here in WA, but if it requires eggs, it won't work for me anyway. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cafe
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This came today. Daughter was beside herself with joy! Wanted to come back home before dance class to eat some. Time was limited but we raced home and I heated up a can. I ate a small amount and gave her the rest. Although it said there were 2 servings, she easily ate most of the can and probably could have had another. She loved it! My opinion?... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cafe
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
She has no record of my order, nor do I. When I placed the order it was just bad timing I think. Supposedly they seized her computer and everything just after my order was placed. I thought it was odd because I never got a confirmation or anything. I can't remember now if I paid via Paypal or debit card. It was at least a year ago. I just won't do business... -
ARCHIVED The Good, The Bad And The Sister.
Juliebove replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I thought Campbell's soups were not gluten-free? The only ones I buy are bean with bacon and a couple of the vegetable ones. But I don't have a gluten problem. Daughter does. She doesn't eat them. -
ARCHIVED Kitty Litter?
Juliebove replied to mindwiped's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use the green container from Costco. It's cheap, hard clumping and really keeps the odor down. She doesn't track it, but she does sometimes bail some over the side of the box. -
ARCHIVED Ruby's Diner - Anything gluten-free?
Juliebove replied to GFCFFoodie's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I haven't looked at their menu since last year, so I don't know if this is still available. They used to have a hamburger salad. This is a hamburger patty on top of a salad. Not very appealing to me anyway. But it looked like the only option on the menu. We were going to go there for a charity thing but didn't because daughter refused to go. You would... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Being Totally Annoying!
Juliebove replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My daughter and I do not have celiac, but food allergies. I don't have to avoid gluten, but I am allergic to eggs, so I must eat the gluten-free pasta for that reason. I cook it for all of us. No problem. Husband is Italian and he doesn't notice the difference. But with other things? All he sees is the cost. He sees that our food costs more. And... -
ARCHIVED Beans, Cucumber, Turnips And Cabbage
Juliebove replied to Amwilkes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think those things have gluten. Corn has gluten. But it is not the same type of gluten that a celiac has to avoid. -
ARCHIVED Enchilada Sauce
Juliebove replied to 4boysmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sweet Creek comes in a jar. Not only is it gluten-free but organic. And it's yummy! -
ARCHIVED Rice Cheese?
Juliebove replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've tried it. I like it on a sandwich with meat. A little bit on nachos with a lot of refried beans and/or taco meat. Or mixed into a casserole. Not on its own. Daiya is also good but comes in shreds. Not slices. Alas both contain pea protein so I can't put them in family meals as daughter is allergic to peas. -
ARCHIVED Labeled "gluten Free" Vs. No Gluten Listed In Label
Juliebove replied to chilligirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Most gluten free foods are not labeled as gluten-free. And even some that are labeled that way, really aren't! I have bought things with that label online, only to see that they are processed on equipment that processes wheat! -
Yes. It's okay. Nothing to write home about.

ARCHIVED Costco
Juliebove replied to ltaylor882's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you know if they have dairy or egg in them? -
ARCHIVED Licorice Substitute
Juliebove replied to MaryannG's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can buy gluten-free licorice, but I'm not sure it would be long enough. I too would think the Fruit Rollup would work. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cafe
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't remember the particulars now. I think they filed bankruptcy or something. The owner said she could not give me any money back because there was none and she also had no product she could send. I had said I would accept any product she had that we weren't allergic to. I don't like to use my credit card because currently the balance is too high... -
ARCHIVED Utz Chips?
Juliebove replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have bought Utz. My inlaws are in PA and we lived there for a short while. That's where they are made. You can mail order them from their website. The only problem with that for us is that we had to get so many chips we couldn't eat them all before they went bad. So I quit doing that. Daughter also has a peanut allergy so that did limit what we could... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cafe
Juliebove posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone tried this? I just found it on another website. I was browing the products there and saw it. But I will not order from that site. It's a food allergy site. I placed an order of about $200 worth of stuff last year. Never got the order. Long story short, the business was shut down. The owner was in contact with me but she said there was nothing... -
So what did you wind up eating?
-
I replied at the bottom. I was given a recipe for soy free soy sauce but it made a ton and called for small amounts of ingredients I didn't necessarily keep around the house. So I am very happy to have this. Must get another bottle because the bottle is small and I used almost half of it already.
-
Yes! That's the stuff. I made teriyaki chicken drumsticks in the oven with a recipe that I found online. I did mess up and grabbed the 1/3 cup measure instead of the 1/3 cup. So I then had to add a bit more of all the other things as well. But the final result came out looking and smelling just like the sauce we used to get at Mongos. Alas they...
