  1. Yeah. A woman I know opened a sandwich place, which will remain nameless. But it is a chain. She is constantly going on about the bread and how good it is because they make it there. I don't think they actually make it from scratch. I think they get the dough frozen and then bake it. She has mentioned taking the frozen dough out of the freezer. She...
  2. The other day, my daughter had severe stomach pains. We didn't exactly know the cause at the time. I began to figure it out that night and the Dr. confirmed it the next day. Allergic reaction to Claritin D. Alas the Dr. said it takes a good 4 days for the medicine to get out of the system. Said she would be sick for 4 days but each day would be a little...
  3. I wish! But then other times I don't wish because they truly don't get it. They have bought her a gluten free birthday cake a couple of times. They do buy safe sorbet. But mostly if there is a dinner, I am expected to provide our gravy, our potatoes, our rice, our dessert, or whatever. My mom doesn't like to cook and certainly doesn't like to make more...
  4. Once on my daughter's birthday we took her to a restaurant where we regularly dined. It's no longer there. One waitress had food allergies and she was always good with our food. But on this day, the hostess took our order. Angela decided she wanted pork chops which we had never had there before. I asked if they were breaded and was told they were not...
  5. Can't find it around Bothell, WA and the store locator turns up nothing.
  6. My daughter has several different food allergies so she has to bring her lunch. I'm not sure there would ever be an option for her at school! I have given her money in case she ever forgets her lunch. I just told her to eat the fruit or vegetables or whatever else looked safe. Luckily in her case the lunch is served at 10:30 so she isn't really hungry...
  7. Before we learned of the food allergies, the school thought my daughter had ADD and/or dysgraphia. Dysgraphia is sort of like dsylexia but instead of seeing things backwards or in the wrong order, she would write them that way. Within two weeks of changing her diet, I got a new kid! So yes, I do think gluten can affect things. She has since outgrown...
  8. Wah! I still can't find it here.
  9. It could also have to do with how dark the chocolate is. Although I would think any dairy free chocolate would be dark. I love dark chocolate, but it messes with my GERD so badly I can't eat even a tiny crumb of it. Oddly, milk chocolate doesn't cause this reaction in me. Nor do things like Tootsie Rolls. I was talking to my friend about this...
  10. I don't trust McDonald's at all because they were not truthful in the past about their ingredients. If for some reason we did have to eat there, I would get the apples because they are pre-packaged and I know they are safe. I might also get a side salad if they had one. Not all of them do. And a drink. But nothing else.
  11. Tonight we dined at a place that is mainly takeout but they do have some seats. It is near daughter's dance studio so that's why we went there. There are other places nearby but they are not options for us given our allergies. This place used to do a gluten-free teriyaki but they took it off the menu. Now the only gluten-free things are a balsamic chicken...
  12. True! I wasn't even thinking there. I am not the gluten-free person. Daughter is.
  13. Yikes! Smoking is probably the worst thing a diabetic can do. As for the diet... It really depends on what kind of diet he eats. A lot of diabetics do low carb. I do not. But... I do eat a lot less carbs than I used to. I used to eat mainly beans and rice or pasta and rice. Eggs and various meats are probably the best things for breakfast. If...
  14. I had trouble with Walgreen's for a different reason. I needed some control solution for my meter (I have diabetes). They didn't stock my brand and said they couldn't get it. When I called Bayer (who makes my meter), they said Walgreens certainly could get it but probably wouldn't for fear of not being able to sell it all before it expired. Bayer...
  15. I have a similar situation in that my mom has food allergies. Part of the problem is that she seems to be losing her memory. One day she will say she is allergic to something and then another day she will say that she is not. I think she just forgets. She seems to remember the banana allergy, but then I think she doesn't really like bananas. She is also...
  16. Wow! I'm glad I didn't see that one. Would make me mad. I'm going through a tough time right now with my cat. She has a thyroid problem and the med she is on for that can and did cause kidney problems. At least the vet thinks it is that. She'll be 18 in Oct. The cat. Not the vet. Anyway... She needs to be on a low phosphorus diet now. I was...
  17. My husband is in the military. When we lived on Cape Cod, there was a PX right there on base. This is where I did most of my grocery shopping. Luckily we had no food allergies (or at least didn't know of them) at that time. Good thing because it wouldn't be of a lot of use to us now at least in terms of gluten-free stuff like bread and pasta. I don...
  18. I just saw this episode last night. May have been a re-run. One of the items in the basket was frog's legs. They had a chef with a gluten allergy. Not sure if it really was celiac because they used the term allergy repeatedly. She coated the legs with wheat flour. Oddly she tried to fry some anchovies and she used tapioca starch for those. Didn't work...
  19. The only gluten-free bread I ever got to work every time is the zucchini bread recipe that is here on this website in the recipes section. Bread in the bread machine? Forget it! Of course I avoid using egg and dairy so that makes it harder. Daughter can have eggs only once a week and dairy twice a week. So just better to leave those things out. I...
  20. We try to have meatless meals at least a couple of times a week. We outgrew our dairy allergies so we can have dairy twice a week. It is usually cheese pizza and macaroni and cheese. The meat I do use is usually good ground beef that I get at Costco and canned chicken that I also get at Costco. I might use the ground beef in a pasta sauce, chili with...
  21. They're not all gluten-free. You have to check the labels.
  22. I've never heard of organic baking soda. In fact I did a search for it and didn't find it. So I looked to see what it is made of. And as I thought, it is a mineral. I don't think it can be organic. Just like salt can't be organic. I thought the only things that could be organic were things that were grown. Like fruits and vegetables. But I could be...

    ARCHIVED Froyo

I have never been to a frozen yogurt place and don't know of any around here. But all of the ice creams I have seen have real pieces of cookie or pie or whatever in them. To be safe I would have picked another flavor like vanilla.
  24. I believe it. I was having problems with my cat eating so I bought all kinds of different canned foods. One contained eggs. I am allergic to eggs. Fed the cat the food with eggs. Cat licked me. I got a nasty rash. No more of that food!
  25. Hmmm... I can't really fathom flour or quinoa in a meatloaf. Or soy sauce for that matter. Also can't see cooking it in the microwave. But maybe it will work. I do a meatloaf with ground beef and plenty of vegetables, including spinach. Just depends on what I have in the house. I used to use ground flax instead of egg, but this last time I tried...
