ARCHIVED Do Your Kids Eat Breakfast?
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The smoothies I make have sorbet, rice milk, honey and frozen berries. High in calories and not something I want her to have very often. She is alleric to almonds and has outgrown allergies to dairy and and soy so can only have these things twice a week. As for taking a container with her, that's not an option. She already has to pack so much stuff... -

Unfortunately she has to eat later because of her dance schedule. She dances three nights a week. The one night that she dances till 9:15, I do send in dinner for her. But she doesn't want to eat much because she is so active. Then she is starving later. As for muffins, she really doesn't like them. She did like the pastries from the Flying Apron... -

She can't have peanut or almond butter because she is allergic. I have bought hemp butter. She won't try it. Doesn't particularly like sunbutter. As for the apples, she has them for lunch pretty much every day. When she tries to eat more than one apple in a day, she gets bad gas. Tonight I put some cinnamon crackers (Ener-G) in with her dinner.... -

I was personally never in bed before 10:00. That was just impossible for me. One night she dances till 9:15. She goes to dance right after school. She has to do homework and take a shower after that. So that night she is always up late. I do try to get her in bed earlier, but it just never seems to happen. -
For most of my life, I have had natrually wavy hair with kinky curly hair underneath in the back. I just learned to deal with it. More recently my hair has gotten quite thin and straight. Even the back. It seemed to have started when I started insulin. My SIL said her sister had exactly the same problem when she went on insulin. Her naturally curly...

I know there are studies, but that doesn't explain why I am fat, why grandma is fat or why grandpa is fat. She would be sure to point that out. I do not overeat. I follow the diet given to me by the dietician. Of course I have extenuating circumstances. Using insulin doesn't help. -

No because they take too long to make! There would be no way I could get one made and have her drink it. I make those sometimes during the summer and it can take her an hour to drink it. She does have some instant breakfast type stuff that you mix with milk. She can only have it twice a week. She has some allergies that she has outgrown and dairy is... -

Gee... I wake up hungry! But I take a pill that I have to take and then wait an hour before eating. Torture to me. I tried the bar thing. She hates Lara bars and really most bars. She was throwing them away at school. Or on the days that she was so slow that I had to drive her, in the back of my van. She made up all sorts of excuses as to why... -

Well that's a big problem. Right now it is 10:17 pm. She hasn't made her lunch, taken her shower or laid out her clothes for tomorrow. If in fact she will lay them out. Most of the time she will not. And that's the problem. I'll be lucky to get her in bed by 11:00. Which means she will be sleepy in the morning and won't want to get up. I can't... -
Daughter will be 12 in July. The problem began about 2 year ago and has gotten steadily worse. Now she will not eat breakfast at all. The teacher at school does require them to eat a snack about 2 hours after she leaves the house and 2 hours before lunch. She is claiming she couldn't possibly eat breakfast and then the snack. The problem is, one day...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Corn-Free, Nut-Free, Bean-Free Easy Meals
Juliebove replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight I made Pastorio macaroni and cheese. To my portion I added some Velveeta cheese and let it melt in the pan. Yum! Daughter claims she hates Velveeta. Too cheesy. Just regular for her. We are eating it with assorted raw veggies and black olives. -

Another favorite is Southwestern style hash. Brown some ground beef. Remove it from pan. Remove excess fat if there is any. Leave just a tiny bit of fat in the pan. If the beef is really lean, you might need to add a bit of olive oil. Add a package of O'Brian potatoes and brown them like the package says. Then add the beef back in and also add... -

Spanish rice. Brown some rice lightly in olive oil. Add salsa and water. Add the protein of your choice. We use ground beef. You can use cooked, chopped chicken. Cook, covered for about 20 minutes or until rice is tender. Double the time for brown rice. Stuffed potatoes. Prick potatoes, wrap in foil and cook in the crockpot all day. Or you can... -
ARCHIVED Aldi's

I've been in one, but we don't have them here. The one I was in was in PA. I didn't buy too much. A few cans of soda pop, a few cans of vegetables and some stuffed animals. I was told they had some good kids videos too. MIL used to shop there but mostly for non food items. -
ARCHIVED Tater Tot Casserole
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I know I've seen Health Valley at the "gourmet" grocery store near here that sells a lot of organic and gluten-free stuff. Not sure if you can get it elsewhere. -
ARCHIVED Where Do You Buy Your Flours?
Juliebove replied to waterlily-'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have bought flour from this site right here. This last time I cleaned out my cupboard and replaced all my baking stuff, I bought it at my local health food store. It is owned by a celiac and the prices are good. Now granted I only bought a four flour mix, sweet rice and brown rice flour. At some point I may need some others. But for now I am trying... -

ARCHIVED Salad Bar In Grocery Store?
Juliebove replied to GarAndTeed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We do get some things from the salad bar. I realize there is a risk of cross contamination. We don't get anything that is near our allergens. I always keep things like canned kidney beans at home. I mainly just get lettuce and maybe some tomatoes and add the rest of the toppings at home. With just two of us (3 when my military husband is home), we don... -
Galaxy Foods makes a vegan rice cheese. They have some other rice cheeses that for some odd reason do contain dairy. There is also almond cheese. It's actually good, but I'm allergic. I'm not allergic to soy. It just messes with my thyroid.

This ends on the 21st so hurry up and do it!

ARCHIVED Tater Tot Casserole
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah, I love the name! Every time I tell people we are eating that, I get a strange look and a "Duh...?" -
Do you know what the dairy free cheese is made of? Soy most likely. I am having trouble finding dairy free cheese in this area that is soy free. My two sources here (Central Market and Tru Health) no longer carry it. I should try PCC but I don't get to that part of Edmonds very often. If you ever get out to Mill Creek, Boston's has gluten-free pizza...

I used to make it using Campbell's cream of celery soup and adding green beans. For the meat I used ground beef. We all loved it. After I learned of the food allergies, I switched over to using Spud Puppies instead of Tater Tots. I do still prefer those because they're organic, but daughter has outgrown her soy allergy so we can use the Tater Tots....

ARCHIVED Real Corn Bread! And Noodle Kugel!
Juliebove replied to cycler's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was given a Magic Bullet as a gift. I never thought I would use it. I did try it initially to make salsa. It just made mush! It does work wonders on flax seed to grind it to a powder. I have also used it on nuts like cashews and macadamias to make nut cheese. -
ARCHIVED Shocking Places You've Found Gluten!
Juliebove replied to GFLindsey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We were at the party store the other day. They had some mints with different colored wrappers. I picked up the light blue ones because they matched the color for my daughter's dance party. I then read the ingredients and they had wheat in them! Why? Years ago, I bought some organic bath product for kids. Daughter had been using it and got a rash....
