I really wish that people would mention that they're replying to a topic that's a year and a half old. I just read through the whole thread before I ran into my own old reply and noticed. There's a huge difference between restaurants and manufacturing facilities. No comparison at all. They wash those lines down with steam hoses. I know, I worked at...

ARCHIVED Beware Of Soy!
larry mac replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry, but there's not one link that would lead me to believe normal soy consumption is bad for us. Nexus magazine is basically a crackpot uppity version of the National Enquirer. Several others are websites to sell books and/or products/services for the profit of Dr. Mary Shuman or Dr. Mercola. The internet abounds with doctors pushing their unconventional... -
ARCHIVED About Those Rice Chex...
larry mac replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Eight servings of anything is not prudent IMO. It's no wonder you got sick. That's a lot of milk, sugar, and cereal. Plus, you had already been feeling sick for some time. Can't really blame the Rice Chex. Nothing but cereal for 13 hours. Odd. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Calcium And Magnesium Supplements
larry mac replied to Genie75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't have any issues similar to yours. But I've done some research on Magnesium/Potassium suppliments specific to Celiacs (and when I was diagnosed, I was also deficient in Potassium), and I use Country Life Target-Mins Magnesium Potassium Aspartate (with other Target-Mins Chelates). It contains Target-Mins Magnesium as Magnesium aspartate, oxide,... -
ARCHIVED Captain Morgan's
larry mac replied to lobita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had the regular spiced rum (and Coke). I'm not that familar with Captain Morgan, in fact that was the first time I ever had any, but as far as I know all of their products are spiced. There's the traditional spiced rum, silver spiced rum, tattoo spiced rum, private stock spiced rum, and the parrot bay line which are tropical flavors with spices. I've never... -
ARCHIVED Captain Morgan's
larry mac replied to lobita's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drank some recently without any obvious glutening repercussions. Full disclosure. I also regularly drink sour mash style Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey's such as Makers Mark, Ezra Brooks, W.L. Wellers, and Jack Daniels. And on occasion various liqueurs such as Italian Lemoncello (am sipping some Limonce at the moment), Italian Tuaca, Mexican Almendrado... -
ARCHIVED Can Dog Treats Make Me React
larry mac replied to krisb's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I just noticed this post was made in the DH section. I just click on "new active posts" or something like that when I get on the forum. And don't really pay any attention to what section they are made in. Sorry about that. I probably shouldn't be responding about the DH posts since I don't know that much about it. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Can Dog Treats Make Me React
larry mac replied to krisb's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If it's alright for my beloved wife, who doesn't have Celiac disease, it's alright for my dog, who doesn't have Celiac disease. Actually, our dog food doesn't contain wheat, but we do give her fruit loops and other wheat containing treats. best regrads, lm p.s., Do dogs also have to have the Celiac genes? -
ARCHIVED Can Dog Treats Make Me React
larry mac replied to krisb's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I agree. if you are hypersensitive, or have DH, by all means take extreme measures to absolutely avoid any and all gluten exposure. For the rest of the majority of non-DH and non-hypersensitive Celiacs, if you take care to wash your hands after handling non-powdered gluten, such as dog biscuits, bread, etc. which of course I do, I just don't see it as... -
ARCHIVED Can Dog Treats Make Me React
larry mac replied to krisb's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm certainly no expert on DH, but wouldn't handling gluten mainly be a DH thing. I give my Phoebe gluten doggy cookies, gluten doggy biscuits, gluten cerial such as fruit loops in leu of cookies, etc. all the time. I've never made any connection with a reaction. These products are baked/cooked and are about as dry as can be. So it's not like handling... -
ARCHIVED Teeccino Coffee
larry mac replied to raen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Boy that's some fancy coffee. I never bought any coffee that had an ingredient list. Unless you count one ingredient as a list. I'm looking at two big cans of coffee from Walmart at the moment. 100% Arabaca & 100% Columbian. That's what it says in big letters on the front of the can. On the back, in smaller type, it says, Ingredients: 100% Pure... -
ARCHIVED About Those Rice Chex...
larry mac replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been eating gluten-free Rice Chex every morning for months. Probably 8-10 boxes. Have been so thrilled to have a real quality tasting cerial to eat instead of the inedible gluten-free health food crap I've paid a fortune for and always ends up getting old in my pantry. My hope was that the major manufacturers, such as General Mills, would try something... -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
modiddly16, I feel it is very unfortunate, but entirely understandable, that my posts have been misunderstood on this thread. I readily admit that I started out responding to the initial post (concerning drinking gluten beer) very rudely and in a judgemental way. I think I tried to not only apologize for that, but in addition, atone for that by actually... -
ARCHIVED Kaopectate.
larry mac replied to mouth's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's very surprising. The ingredients are almost exactly like Pepto-Bismol (without all the colorings). It's just a white Pepto-Bismol. I remember as a kid, my mother giving PB to me and it making my stomach hurt worse. I've always chalked it up (no pun intended) as an intolerance to Bismuth Subsalicylate, the active ingredient in both products. They both... -

Have we all gone crazy or what. Josh started some kind of mass hysteria. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, me too. I'ts very incongruous to my normal gluten-free behavior. What the heck happened Friday night? It wasn't even a full moon. I've been fine all day today. Halleluya! best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not feeling very well this morning. Nothing serious, a little d, a little stomach problem, a little headache, tired, dragging. Happens occasionally, so no absolute cause and effect from the beer. Most likely though, it contributed. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Good morning people, I'm happy to say I didn't get sick last night. I got a little woozy (but I had already drank a margarita, which is definately gluten-free, though it contains 3X the alcohol of a beer, at least mine do ), got real sleepy, went to bed, slept all night, and woke up somewhat hungover. I don't usually feel that way after drinking tequila... -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
OK, so maybe I was a little rash in my response to MTNJ. I wasn't aware that light beer is gluten-free. Could someone please cite any study, test results, or link that even suggests light beer made from barely has negligeable gluten. I'm sorry, I thought we were supposed to avoid gluten containing products. Now I learn we try gluten foods that we think are... -
ARCHIVED Why Do People Lose Weight After Being Diagnosed With Celiac?
larry mac replied to arsilva's topic in Sports and Fitness
This is one of those threads that just won't die. Every few months someone brings it back to life. There are many symptoms of Celiac disease. Not everyone shares the same symptoms. Some gain weight and some lose weight after going gluten-free. I lost weight before being diagnosed and gained weight after. It seems more logical to me, that one would... -
ARCHIVED Still Drinking Regular Beer - No Problems
larry mac replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is the Gluten-Free Celiac Disease Forum. If one has Celiac disease, one doesn't consume gluten. Wheat, Barley, & Rye contain gluten. Beer is made from malted barley. Celiacs don't drink beer. Perhaps you people don't have Celiac Disease. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Does A Hot Dog Have Gluten?
larry mac replied to TammyK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I spent a long time reading the ingredients on hot dog franks/weinies and also link sausages at our Walmart. Of many, many products only one, Nathans contained wheat. And not as a "cheap filler" as was suggested, but as a protien ingredient. Don't know what they do in Canada, but even the cheapest products here don't have wheat (cerial) fillers. That... -
ARCHIVED Couple Questions...
larry mac replied to pewpewlasers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you make the BBQ chicken yourself or buy it? Sometimes those rotisserie chickens give me problems even though they don't have gluten listed in the ingredients. They tend to be pretty greasy for one thing. Plus, they are injected with various chemicals ala marinades. I'm curious as to your user name. It's quite unusual. Care to enlighten us? best... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Ever Had A Reaction To Tuaca Brandy?
larry mac replied to SLOmommy's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The product is Tuaca Italian Liqueur. Not Tuaca brandy. Yes it contains brandy. Or, as the label say's: "a premium golden amber liqueur redolent of fine aged brandy and elegantly focused Tuscan fruit essences. Artfully blended with hints of vanilla and orange flavors, Tuaca is distinctively smooth and immediately appealing." I heartily agree. It's very... -
ARCHIVED Stride Gum Reaction
larry mac replied to Shawn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All the Stride varieties have artificial and natural flavors, yet only one affected you. So, not all natural flavors are bad for Celiacs. Plus, I don't have DH, but it seems to be a much different disease than regular Celiac. Certainly the symptoms are different and also some sensitivities. If every Celiac had to "stay away" from every product anybody...
