ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Such good points! I think I'm covered on almost all of them. I'm nearly grain free, except some rice maybe 1x per week, and a 1/2 slice of bread about the same. I generally stay away from processed things...my body no likey! I try to stick with the Paleo diet as much as possible, but I have stolen some corn chips recently, splurged on yogurt in the beginning... -
ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...

POOP! I just found this shake last week and I thought I hit the jackpot. The vegan shake doesn't have barley grass, but is processed in the same place. Xylitol may pose an issue. How will I know? The exhaustion was way before this shake, so it could blend in -

Thanks for your reply. I wish I could blame soy, but I'm soy free. Have been for 2 months. I use a great protein shake, Biochem 100% Vegan Protein and it's delish if anyone wants to try it (gluten, dairy, soy, yeast, preservative, artificial color, flavors and sweetener free ). My B12 was 343 (range 211-946). I'm on sublingual B12 and the doc... -
ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...
vbecton posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, so I got my official Celiac Disease diagnosis yesterday. Thanks to a very good doctor who was willing to look past the obvious! However, since going gluten-free 3 months ago I'm dealing with extreme exhaustion. I don't mean I'm tired, I mean exhaustion to the point of not functioning well. All my vitamins are back in the normal ranges, but... -
OMG! Me too!!! I have clothes sizes from 4-8 in the closet. It's crazy. I am pretty consistent these days, but before going gluten-free I stayed so bloated I needed bigger pants. And not just bigger pants, but bigger belly pants...like the kind with the elastic banding for pregnant ladies.

ARCHIVED Some Questions About The Scd Diet
vbecton replied to sickchick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi sickchick. Don't know if you've gotten the book yet, but I loosely follow the SCD. I would rather follow the Paleo, but I allow myself yogurt. I just recently stopped tolerating cow's yogurt, so I've switched to coconut yogurt....which I might add is yummy! Anyway about the hunger. I've drastically increased my protein and fat on these diets... -
Glad to hear you are stopping the soy while pregnant. There's much research that suggests soy intake during pregnancy is harmful. Google: soy dangers in pregnancy. There is also much reserach regarding soy intake as an infant and later predisposition to chronic diseases, especially for male babies. Google will give you tons of info to consider. Good...

OMG! I can't believe they add chicken baste to salsa. HOLY COW! Good to know info though as now I'll pay more attention. I'm from south Texas and we take our salsas and Tex-Mex ultra seriously. It's almost a sport around here to grow the best tomatoes & jalapenos for the best salsa. I'm so glad they told you and you avoided a glutening

ARCHIVED I Am Going To ******* Scream! --Vent
vbecton replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry about your frustrations! I know we are going through some of the same things. Getting a diagnosis shouldn't be this difficult. AT ALL! We know our bodies and it's like we are constantly being shrugged off, told we are fine, told it isn't that bad, or it will get better over time. I'd like to meet the doctor that just says, "I don't know what the... -
ARCHIVED Biggest Obstacle In Coping With celiac disease
vbecton replied to Mr.GF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey TinaB. Oh, it's not my family that is causing the issues, it's outsiders. Like at social events, restaurants, etc... My family (hubby & 2 kids) are healthy as well and eat whatever I cook. They are just glad I cook meat now...ha!!! I just wish the outside world understood more about gluten intolerance. Wouldn't that be dreamy?! -
ARCHIVED Newbie- Help W/social Eating Situations
vbecton replied to ftmomma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good luck ftmomma! I'm a newbie and just went to a BBQ 2 weeks ago. I almost had a coronary because it was my first experience to eat at someone's house after going gluten-free. The host's mother is Celiac, so she called me ahead of time to see what sauces were safe and such (which was super sweet!!!!). I then explained about CC (the grill, etc..) and... -
ARCHIVED Biggest Obstacle In Coping With celiac disease
vbecton replied to Mr.GF's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The social aspect for sure! Getting used to a gluten-free diet is manageable. However, having to constantly explain my situation is overwhelming (cuz I'm a newbie). People have always expected me to eat differently because I've been vegan for years, then vegetarian, now SCD, but it gets irritating that my healthy eating makes me the bizarre one in a group... -
Got glutened yesterday ... BOOOOO! My symptoms start within 1 hour. I bloat like a balloon, the gas starts, then nausea, then the blood sugar drops, then the headaches. My blood sugar will dip all night long into the next day. Then I get pissy. My foul mood spilled over today because I snapped at my friend who said her salsa was gluten free...so I said...

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cells, Platelets & Ferritin?
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Gemini! I needed that pep talk. I'm sure everyone gets discouraged, or overwhelmed in the beginning. I am a quick fix person. I believe duct tape can fix almost anything unfortunately, it can't fix Celiac! The day of my endoscopy, my GI handed me photos of my small intestines saying he thought there was plenty of evidence to prove Celiac. ... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs Trying To Avoid Corn, Too?
vbecton replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks for the info. I found this iodine topic interesting because I am very very very tired since going gluten-free. My diet is drastically different than pre-gluten-free days. I don't eat any iodized salt, but I sometimes cheat on a tiny pinch of sea salt. I'll be munching on some seawead for sure. I don't know if I'm headed toward hypo, but I've read... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs Trying To Avoid Corn, Too?
vbecton replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So, if I'm mostly grain free (have tiny amounts of grain on the wknds), I should be taking an iodine supplement? Online it says that yogurt and eggs have iodine. So, if I'm eating 2 eggs for bkfst and yogurt for my PM snack will that cover my iodine needs? Or should I take a supplement? Is iodine intake at all related to ferritin levels? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED I'm New- Help- Dizzy, Brain Fog Vision Disturbances?
vbecton replied to That GF Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi gluten-free girl! I had very intense low blood sugar problems before going gluten free 2 months ago. Now, the only time I have issues with blood sugar is when I've been glutened (cuz I'm still learning ) or when I've had too many carbs. For me, too many is 1 slice of Udi's bread. SERIOUSLY! A half a slice is good, but a quarter slice is better... -
Ugh! I just ate there today. I was happy they had a gluten free menu, but I most certainly understand how risky it is for us to eat out no matter the precautions they take. Hope you feel better soon.

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cells, Platelets & Ferritin?
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Very interesting that we've had the same readings. My doctor sent my blood & endoscopy results to me via mail and commented on every aspect of the findings EXCEPT what I mentioned here. He did remark that there were no signs of anemia. Well, if I'm not anemic, I'm certainly a walking zombie. I think my doctor was hot on the trail to find Celiac that... -

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cells, Platelets & Ferritin?
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hello trents, All my other levels were in the normal values (RDW, MCV, Hemoglobin, Hemotocrit). I read that low ferritin can be a sign of beginning stages of hypothyroid? Any one else seen or read this? I haven't been on any immuno suppressants, and definitely haven't been ill. But, I do have this feeling that something is wrong. That's why I was concerned... -
ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cells, Platelets & Ferritin?

I need some help on my latest blood work. My GI is sure I have celiac disease, but all blood tests repeatedly say "nay." My endoscopy was negative despite obvious, visual scalloping. The only thing that says maybe is my high genetic marker for celiac disease. I'm no longer concerned with getting a diagnosis because I've responded so well with the diet... -
Didn't say I was a believer, just thought it was interesting. I eat fruit whenever and how often I want to, something I wasn't able to do 2 months ago. And, for as sensitive as some of our stomachs are, if it works, try it. If not, don't. Just another avenue to get some fruit down the hatch if your stomach can handle it better on empty. Most of us aren...

Here's something interesting about fruit from Dr. Stephen Mak. Not sure how this will effect those with fructose intolerance, but still very interesting: "Eat your fruit on an empty stomach, or before your meal. You've heard people complain: Every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats, when I eat a banana I feel like running...
