Interesting & thanks Kayo! Everything regarding FODMAP on the internet is contradicting. Some sights say no tomatoes, some say they are fine. Ditto about broccoli, kiwi fruit, grapes and a few others. I'm so confused What about peppers? Poblano? Capsicum are supposed to be okay?

Can you eat coconut oil when avoiding FODMAP's? I know coconut cream/milk are no-no's, but wasn't sure about oil. I'm craving some thai chicken

ARCHIVED What Would You Do Or Say If This Happened To You?
vbecton replied to VioletBlue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, I'm an ebayer and would NEVER ship my goods in old food boxes. GROSS! However, this made me think of my very cheap and frugal husband who would most certainly "recycle" any type of box for shipping and would NEVER even think twice about it....and he TOTALLY gets the Celiac thing. So, go easy on the poor dingbats ratings, but you should definitely... -
ARCHIVED I'm A Gluten Free Baby
vbecton replied to ilookthetype's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First of all, you are a funny writer . Secondly, welcome! I'm glad you are so young to figure out that food is making you ill. It took my 20 dang years to put 2-n-2 together. I've been called a slow learner a few times . I went gluten-free 3 months ago and quickly began reacting to many other foods: dairy, soy, legumes, corn, now fructose... -

ARCHIVED gluten-free Diet Confusion
vbecton replied to merbear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi merbear & welcome. I'm 3 months into this diet and I can tell you I wasn't very reactive to wheat or gluten before. I just had sporadic bowel issues. My real issue was NOT in my gut (so to speak), but my chronic low blood sugar and low vitamin levels. The blood sugar finally got so out of control I demanded answers and went to every doctor I could... -
Who the heck got your gluten-free meal? Man, after all that planning you did to ensure your meal was gluten-free and free of CC, I would be ticked too! Hope you get to feeling better Back in the day, when I was vegan, I was on a long flight to Australia. So, I called ahead to make sure they would be serving all vegan meals to me. No problem! When...

ARCHIVED Active Celiac & 3 Months gluten-free. Pill Camera
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks Lisa for your info! I've been dairy free since going gluten-free, I'm also soy, corn, egg free and doing the FODMAP (low fructose) diet. I also, naturally eat pretty much lean meat, veggies, fruit, oils and nuts...plus my protein shakes. And that's IT. That's why this is puzzling. I couldn't eat cleaner if I tried. Plus I'm an organic snob..... -
ARCHIVED Active Celiac & 3 Months gluten-free. Pill Camera
vbecton posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Got my pill camera results, so to speak. My GI nurse sent an email saying the results were in for my latest blood work and pill camera, gave me an appt to come in. But, I'm far too impatient to wait for my appt to ask questions...HELLO! All she said in the email was "Pill camera shows active Celiac" and gave a bunch of instructions on vitamins, minerals... -
ARCHIVED Starting Out
vbecton replied to aderifield's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Howdy aderifield. There are two ways to go about this. Either you NEED a confirmed diagnosis (like me), or you will become satisfied with the improvements brought upon by the dietary changes and that will be all you need. If you need the diagnosis to be confirmed, stay on gluten. Otherwise, stay gluten free. When I first went gluten-free I thought... -
I second the Mexican food night! Yum yum! Tacos, tostados, taquitos, enchiladas (tons of variety there!), nachos, quesadillas, salsas, margaritas...Can you tell my favorite food fair?! 2 days ago was my birthday and when I showed up at the gym, my workout mates had made me gluten free cookies, brought in all the ingredients so I could verify and then...

ARCHIVED Just Because You Can't.......
vbecton replied to Aphreal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel ya! I have a 13 yr old and he eats us out of the house! In my opinion I would steer clear of using your food intolerance as a reason to not bring them food. I would simply tell them (as you said), make a sandwich, period. Or, we are broke. Or, there are leftovers in the frigde. If you bring up your food intolerance during one of these episodes... -
Well, if she persists with the "weird" I would make a short funny comeback like, "yeah, I probably am weird for not wanting to be up all night with uncontrollable D...how bizarre." But, then again I'm a major smarta** so you may not want to listen to me! When my husband suggests I'm making a bigger deal about all this than necessary, I go cuddle with...

You sound much like me. Misdiagnosed for 20 years and a severe hypoglycemic. All the doctors thought I would be diabetic in a matter of months, or a year with the severity of my low blood sugar (as it can eventually break your insulin functions). How much protein are you consuming in a day? I had to significantly increase my protein from 80 to 120++g...

ARCHIVED 2Nd Opinion Of My Tests
vbecton replied to Smarts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I really do remember being exactly where you are in the doctor loop. Before I found THE greatest GI doctor, I thought I was losing my mind. I had several other doctors tell me, "yeah, you might have Celiac, but it's nothing to worry about, just don't eat wheat." I can't believe guys like this can even hold a license to practice medicine!!! Our family... -
Great post! This is exactly the type of information I was needing for myself. I started 2 days ago eliminating fructose to see if that was the cause of my unrelenting symptoms. Seems it was indeed as I am gas free for the 1st time in...well, maybe my life . And great information about the lactose intolerance. I was just wondering about dairy because...

ARCHIVED Come On Food! Work With Me!
vbecton replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gosh, I'm so glad you mentioned toothpaste! I never even considered it was in toothpaste. Any other items I should be looking out for? I just sent my GI an email about testing for fructose issues, so I'll probably know by tomorrow what he wants to do. But, I do agree with you that it comes down to eliminating the food, and/or reintroducing it to know... -
So, on another thread there were some of us talking about the lack of our GI symptoms resolving after going gluten-free. And, by not resolving, I mean mine are significantly worse. Just call me gas-a-saurus rex. One member (T.H.) suggested fructose issues, but I didn't want to believe that since I've eliminated so many things already. However, they...

ARCHIVED Whine Alert - What Is Going On?
vbecton replied to sahm-i-am's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sign me up for the looney bin now . I just read this sight and it was very informative about fructose malabsorption. Strange thing is one of the main needs for digesting fructose are amino acids...of which I am low in. DANG IT! I'm going to try the 72 hour elimination of fructose just to see if my symptoms resolve any. Is this simply a diet and... -
ARCHIVED Whine Alert - What Is Going On?
vbecton replied to sahm-i-am's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ME TOO! It seems to happen everyday between 10-11am no matter what I eat. I even cut out eggs 3 days ago thinking that was my new culprit. UHHHH. But, no, the gas loves me so much it just keeps showing up. Everyday. Like a stalker. I have no idea what causes this, but I'm trying to figure it out -
I claim one of those messages . I am in the mist of changing up my weight training routine. I'm also trying to convince my fellow work-out gals to do the same. We all agree we are overtraining. Now we just need to change our mentality that hours in the gym everyday isn't giving us the results. Excellent post!

ARCHIVED Whine Alert - What Is Going On?
vbecton replied to sahm-i-am's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wendi, glad you are feeling better! I am 3 months into this diet as well. I was in big denial about dairy, but I let that go (tears streaming down my face). I'm a clean eater (aside from the mysterious cupcakes that landed in my belly), mostly all organics, yada yada yada, but I'm still experiencing major bloat, gas and other fun intestinal things. When... -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
vbecton replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Took my daughter to Chick-Fil-A for toddler time. Me: Are the french fries fried in the same grease that the nuggets? Or, do they have a dedicated fryer? Worker: They have a dedicated fryer. Me: Awesome, I'm just curious because some people are intolerant, or allergic to gluten and if they are all fried together than the french fries would... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Ibs?
vbecton replied to captaincramp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi CaptainCramp. I have exercise enduced asthma as well and use an inhaler when needed...as probably your script says. Just like you, the inhaler NEVER worked anyway. It actually made me more lightheaded because it's pumped full of speed . Since going gluten-free, the inhaler is a distant memory. Not that I really ever used it, but I had one around...
