  1. Microwaves and tupperware/plastic ware got me. I was getting sick from using the microwave at work and at home without a lid. Now I either cover with plastic wrap TIGHTLY and poke a few holes in it (steam goes out, not in) or I use a plastic lid that has a vent in it, or a glass dish with a glass lid. For the plastic ware (for leftovers or to take...
  2. OK, I'm back. Here's the recipe I used and the thread it came from, with thanks to Shawnmcb! Open Original Shared Link Okay, here's my full recipe. gluten-free Yorkshire Pudding (Makes 12 regular-sized "muffins" 2/3 cup of gluten-free flour mix (any) 1/3 cup of corn starch or potato starch 1/2 tsp. salt (or up to 1 tsp
  3. I have and my DS and I couldn't tell the difference. Yummy! I have to say that Yorkies are my favorite part of Christmas dinner! I'm at work now, so I'll have to wait til tonight to post recipe, links and flour notes for you.
  4. Jessica, yes I think it's a good chance that you are now more sensitive and react to things that weren't obvious before. The same thing happened to me and I've had the right-side pain off and on for 6 months now. Had every test known to doc and mankind. It comes and goes and gets worse with accidental glutenings. You should definitely throw out (or give...
  5. OK, I just did a search here and found this thread: Open Original Shared Link It looks like vanilla is probably ok, but not chocolate. I'd be very careful though and try to get more information. Probably won't hurt tonight.
  6. Joyce's lab, There are several ways to do this: 1) Post a question under the "Products" section of this forum 2) Do a search for Blue Bell in this forum 3) Go to Blue Bell's web site and do a search for "gluten" there. 4) Call the company tomorrow. Any ice cream flavor like cheesecake, cookie dough or brownie will probably have gluten. I get...
  7. I have tons of suggestions for online teaching opportunities. I will PM you. I hope you can face down your demons. I know exactly what you mean. You can do it!
  8. I am posting late because I couldn't post at work (for obvious reasons). I had a really bad time at my last job because of brain fog and depression. Was basically forced out in November '06 but was able to land on my feet due to friends and connections. In addition to the other good ideas above, you might try 1) online teaching 2) consulting 3) writing...
  9. Whenever I get gluten and have an upset stomach, I get terrible skin pain wherever the bm touches (Sorry if TMI) . I think the gluten in the output is the cause. So I can imagine that if one were to sit in it for any amout of time, as diapered kids do, that it would itch, get inflammed and/or get a rash. When I get glutened I carry baby wipes with me...
  10. Nickel in foods? Michelle, if you could post your list I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance.... Nevermind, I used the wonders of Google to get a list. Thanks for pointing it out though, I never would have thought....
  11. I have to put medical-grade tape over the snap on my jeans. I can wear stainless steel wire earrings (the dangly kind) but not posts. Raven, do you think your sensitivitity has decreased since you went gluten free? Is there a connection?
  12. Michelle, what is EDS? Are chromium and cobalt in many foods/beverages? I think that chromium is in vitamins, right? I read recently that people who are allergic to nickel shouldn't wear mineral-based makeup, so I've eliminated that. The article (sorry, can't remember where I read it) said that continuing to wear mineral makeup could make people...
  13. Who knew? I have always had trouble writing. My dad has the same writing style as I do, and I wondered about the inheritability. And now my DS has the same thing. We are going through the testing phase for him. We're lucky in that DS has bad writing but that is the only manifestation. His IQ is really high (160) and he is not affected except...
  14. I know Sunnydyrain has this too. But I never connected it with celiac or even thought that it could be connected. Anyone else with a nickel allergy?
  15. Hi Kelly and welcome to the forum. I had excessive stinky gas, bloating, pain, big D (explosive), arthritis (knee, hip, back), depression, anxiety, nickel allergies, "brain fog" (memory problems and fuzzy thinking), lack of energy and weight gain. I also had heel pain and light sensitivity, both of which have gone away and both of which I've heard are...
  16. Lightening Bolt, My heart goes out to you. First, I hope that nothing I say makes you sad or upsets you further because I -- along with all the other posters -- only wish for your health and safety. Your hubby is not insensitive, he's abusive. From what I've seen, your spouse fits all the characteristics of a spouse-abuser, except that he hasn't...
  17. Hi Barb, There are two blogs I recommend you read. They really helped me for baking. Open Original Shared Link Gluten-Free Girl is from Seattle (like me...and you? perhaps). She has a new book coming out this week with the same title. The second is Gluten Free Goddess's blog Open Original Shared Link Try her homemade chocolate brownies and...
  18. My son and I both get the mouth irritations, sometimes within 5 minutes (Have to check into the allergy part...I am allergic to grass and hay.) I do get mouth ulcers after glutening, but usually a day or two later. I got them for years, pre-diagnosis, and thought they were "normal". Now I don't get them unless I've been glutened.
  19. If you want to make your own, it's pretty easy and you can customize your ingredients safely. I've served it as a salad like in this first recipe, instead of rolling it. I've also put the rolled recipe below. I was able to find the rice, nori and wasabi at my local QFC but you might have to try an asian market, depending on your locale. Here's the...
  20. I got better right away, but then worse. My problems were caused by: 1) Microwaves, both at home and at work. (Unless you buy a new microwave too). I have to cover everything with either a layer of plastic wrap or a microwave-safe plastic or glass lid. 2) Tupperware, plastic dishes, cutting boards, spatulas, egg flippers, colanders etc. This is really...
  21. OK, you gals have got to read Shauna's blog and read her new book that is going to be published October 12th, I believe. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I hope all who want to have a gluten free wedding have a wonderful, glorious day sans gluten.
  22. He really is insensitive. I work with a woman who says she is an alcoholic, not a recovered alcoholic, and she doesn't drink. If I were to offer her a beer or wine daily, that would be unbelievable. What he's doing is just the same. If you were working for a big corporation, it would be something to take to HR. Any way, I'm not sure if you want ideas...
  23. Mark, I don't know about the IgA test reliability, but I think docs like to have things cut-and-dried positive. My father-in-law and brother are both doctors and that's how they think. My own biopsy was negative visually (no blunted villi) but showed inflamation at the cellular level. Since he saw "some changes" I would say that you will probably have a...
  24. Grovermum, Have you looked into a food bank? I think you might have to call them and talk to them/educate them ahead of time but they might have staples like canned tuna, canned beans (kidney, garbanzo, black, mexican refried), canned veggies like corn and tomatoes, spagetti sauce, rice. You wouldn't get to be as choosy with brands but with some good...
  25. Actually, it is a pricey island. My sister lives there and we visit often. Thanks for the idea!
