ARCHIVED Thinking About Getting Pregnate
cyberprof replied to little d's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The rest of what you said is correct but this portion is NOT true. Down's syndrome risk is related to maternal age, family history etc., and is the same for each individual woman whether it's her first or 10th baby. At age 25 the risk for downs is 1/1300 while at 37 it is 1/255. and 1/177 at age 38. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Keep Going When You're Not Getting Better?
cyberprof replied to FootballFanatic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you're not feeling better. Couple ideas: If you're still on medication, are you sure it's gluten free? Are you sure that your vitamins and toiletries are gluten free? Are you taking Vitamin B12 (sub-lingual)? It might really help... Have you had your thyroid checked, especially autoimmune thyroid? Have you been checked for diabetes? Have... -

That's good about no surgery but bad that you're still in the hospital and still in pain. I hope that they figure it out soon. ~Laura -

I LOVE Patak's. We had their Jalfrazi (sp?) sauce over shrimp with rice and veggies and it was the best Indian meal I've had outside our favorite Indian restaurant. ~Laura -
ARCHIVED Healed And Never Get Sick
cyberprof replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I will have been gluten-free for nine months next week and I was just commenting to my DH yesterday that when I get gluten accidentally (eating out, usually) I don't really get sick, or as sick as I did right after diagnosis. At about 3 weeks into gluten free, I noticed that I reacted to everything- spatulas, colanders, wood spoons etc., just as people... -

My symptoms are almost identical to yours, except the agitation. My mood is depressed and lethargic. -
ARCHIVED How Do I Find A Gluten-free Turkey?
cyberprof posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I heard that some turkeys have injected gluten. How do I find a good one to buy? I have a QFC, PCC, Whole Foods and Fred Meyer to choose from. Ideas? ~Laura -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Intestinal Narrowing?
cyberprof replied to laughs2loud's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I too have a liver tumor from birth control pills and/or some unknown reason. I also have Focal Nodular Hyperplasia (benign tumors) in my liver and angiomyolipomas in my kidneys, also benign. My doc doesn't think that I need surgery, although they are following them. You don't have to have surgery on your liver, do you? Best of luck and I hope... -
ARCHIVED My System Is Going Crazy!
cyberprof replied to alamaz's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm sorry you feel so bad. I don't have any answers for you but I hope you feel better soon. Try not to stress about the baby...if you're really worried call your doctor's office. Even if they don't know celiac too well, they're used to dealing with dehydrated or sick or stressed moms-to-be. Take care. ~Laura -

I agree, I'd use it for CC problems when eating out and/or traveling. Not for everyday use, certainly, but for special occasions. ~Laura -
ARCHIVED Alzheimer's And Celiac Link
cyberprof replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Given all the possible neurological symptoms of gluten, like ataxia and brain fog and others, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm happy that all of us here won't get Alzheimer's but what about all the other people who aren't diagnosed? -
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Beano contain gluten?

ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Diabetic Daughter Tested Positive For Celiac
cyberprof replied to Noor's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Rola, I'm not too qualified to answer about diabetes but I do know a good cookbook. "Wheat-Free, Gluten-Free Cookbook for Kids and Busy Adults" by Connie Sarros is has some great recipes PLUS it has carbs, calories etc for each recipe. Even better, it has a diabetic adjustment for a lot of the recipes - for example using unsweetened apple sauce instead... -
I had weird things prior to diagnosis that have ALL gone away. I would get chest pressure and a feeling of anxiety, like my heart was pounding and I could feel the blood rushing through my body. My heart beat faster and sometimes skipped beats. The stomach pain, combined with the heart stuff, got me in to see the doc. I didn't want to say "I think I'm...

ARCHIVED Celiac Diet And High Cholestral
cyberprof replied to kathya's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just mentioned this on another post but cinnamon has recently been found to naturally lower cholesterol: try a google search. You can get capsules or just sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon total a day over pancakes, hot chocolate, etc. Also, 15-20 almonds a day is also supposed to help. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Back....
cyberprof replied to loco-ladi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eating 15-20 almonds a day is said to lower cholesterol and should give some folate too. Also, cinnamon has recently been found to help naturally lower cholesterol and helps stabilize blood sugar, so you could get some gluten-free cinnamon. Do a google search, but I think it's 1/2 teaspoon a day, which you could get by sprinkling it on pancakes, deserts... -
ARCHIVED I Accidently Ate Wheat! Need Advise!
cyberprof replied to tbradley93's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you don't feel well. Hope you're better soon. CC means cross-contamination, which means getting gluten through accident- like when someone dips a wheat cracker into your dip and you get sick. CC'd is slang for accidental glutening. Probiotics are natural bacteria, like you find in yogurt. Drug Stores and natural food stores like GNC sell... -
This is what I figured out, it was the oil not the chips for me too. Too much oil is bad. ~Laura

Regarding corn meal, I use Arrowhead Mills Organic, which I found in a "regular" grocery store. It says "Wheat Free Gluten Free" on the front and I've not had problems with it. I use it to fry fish, for cornbread and to keep homemade pizza crust from sticking. It is a HUGE learning curve. At the beginning it is overwhelming and I know I worried...

Baking Barb IS from the Pacific Northwest, from her location profile. So, Lonewolf, maybe we'll get lucky and she'll start a bakery in/near Seattle!
-
Barb, Hang in there! I just want to say (can't help it) that if you are anywhere near Seattle, we could REALLY use a good gluten free bakery. Not to insult anyone but the two I've tried are pretty poor. I have baked with recipies from this site, from gluten free girl's blog (she's from Seattle too) Open Original Shared Link and from gluten free...

ARCHIVED Test Results Were Negative But.....
cyberprof replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Babinsky, sprue is celiac. Some doctors call it just "sprue" (because celiac sprue fits in the general category of sprue and also because "celiac" by itself has another different meaning in medical parlance without the word sprue attached). So, YES, you do have celiac! I had the same diagnosis pattern- the biopsy first because they were looking for... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Searching For Answers
cyberprof replied to Nyxie63's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure if I have any answers for you, except that the cream of wheat test is pretty telling. The endoscopy may have missed the celiac (or maybe they didn't look for the right things) and a blood test isn't 100% accurate either (so don't worry about not having had it). My advice would be to avoid wheat and gluten in all forms and continue testing...
