  1. I think you'll need to talk to a dentist on this one. Here's some info to get you started. I searched for a long time to find a picture of discoloration. My dentist - though knowledgeable about celiac after I asked her to research it - didn't know what caused my 14 yo son's teeth discoloration. Here are the pictures I found: Open Original Shared Link...
  2. Gemini, thanks for the message. No, I don't think he's cheating because he REALLY wants to grow and he agreed- we didn't force him. He's the kind of kid that reads science textbooks for fun and has done some research on celiac. He hasn't been gluten-free very long so the tongue pain may be a holdover from when he was eating gluten. It's possible there...
  3. Thanks Ursa. Yes, it's a combo B-vitamin. Can't remember all but B12 and Folic for sure. ~Laura
  4. Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned that I started him on B12+ Folic sub-lingual about a week ago - it took me a while to find one that was gluten-free/CF. He has also been taking extra D and magnesium. So maybe this will help. I'm sure he is not absorbing nutrients correctly, based on his enterolab results. He's only been on the...
  5. He's been gluten free for a little over a month. He does not have obvious GI gluten-response symptoms, so I don't know if it is gluten but don't think so. He did have two times where he ate gluten (six months ago) and got a mouth sore or mouth ulcer not more than 20 minutes later. But this isn't like that and I think he's been reliably gluten-free. ...
  6. Aleshia, I've read your other threads and I hope you get answers soon. I wasn't in menopause three years ago but was completely done in less than two years. I'm much older than you (48) but after the onset of the major celiac symptoms my menopause happened so fast! It is possible that your pregnancy is messing up your hormones and if you go...
  7. Hi Kid, Last year when I was diagnosed, I found that main brands of charcoal (i.e. Kingsford) had gluten. So last year I used cowboy charcoal, which is gluten-free and real wood. (Other charcoals have additives.) This year, I read on this board that Kingsford is gluten-free and I checked the website and called and it appears to be. They use corn...
  8. The fried corn tortillas at any mexican restaurant are always suspect because they probably fry the wheat tortillas in the same vat. My tried-and-true remedy is lots of hot mint tea (spearmint and/or peppermint). Something in the mint helps the stomach (medival remedy) and the hot is soothing and the fluid helps if you are loosing water. I use trader...
  9. What is NAFLD? What is NASH? ... Nevermind- I googled them. I have Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is the second most common tumor of the liver plus I have a hepatocellular adenoma. Neither of these are linked to celiac but I wonder. ~Laura
  10. Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet books (can't remember which one) have a lot of "cream of" soup recipies. Check your library. ~Laura
  11. Waving hello from Northgate! I don't know any celiac-savvy doctors in Seattle/King County, sorry. Although this is secondary to your gall-bladder question, I would suggest having a bone scan for osteoporosis if you've lost height. That IS a celiac symptom or side-effect. No doctor can say that lost height is a pyschological symptom and no legitimate...
  12. Try peppermint or mint blend tea. I drink it hot and it is very soothing. It immediately stops my nausea and seems to help with the D and bloating. Maybe you could have a teddy bear tea party. You could try it with honey in it or cool if she doesn't like it hot. I hope she feels better soon. ~Laura
  13. Thanks to everyone who replied. You are all great and I appreciate it. ~Laura
  14. Gentleheart, I think you have several options: 1) Ignore/don't mention celiac in any doctor's presence, stay gluten free and find a doctor that will find out what else - if anything- is wrong with you. Being gluten-free isn't something your doctor or any doctor can "disallow" and doesn't preclude the doc from looking for other things and it doesn't...
  15. I guess I didn't convey my thoughts well, but what I meant was that I'm sure most of my family have gluten intolerance, at the least. I know that I either have DQ2 or DQ1 based on my son's results. However, I think each of my parents are at the least gluten intolerant and at least 3 of my 4 siblings are too. But you're right, you can be celiac and/or gluten...
  16. My son got his in March 2 days before the 3 weeks were up. I think others have posted that they really do mean 3 weeks when they say 3. Call them on Tuesday if you don't hear. And let us know your result! Good luck. ~Laura
  17. Ha Ha - you just described our family, except for the migranes and failure to concieve. Stomach cancer, check. Diabetes, check. Short stature, check. "Moodiness" (otherwise known as depression), check. I'm so curious to get my genes checked because I have a bet with myself that I have two celiac genes. We'll see. ~Laura
  18. Anyone else? Thanks for the replies, they help a bit. Ursa, he's a lot like your son, so I hope he does sprout up soon! He will be 15 in less than a month and has been gluten free for about a month. The doc did a bone age scan at my insistence and his bone age is 12.5, so from what I've read he still has time to grow. I think that the undiagnosed...
  19. I'm asking because my son is wondering whether he will grow (or when he will grow) now that he is gluten-free. ~Laura
  20. The research I've done (for teenagers and growth) says that if children "cross percentiles" that is a bad sign. Like if a child is always at 10% for height that's ok. It's when they go from 100th percentile to 25th percentile that it is important. As Ursa said, try another doctor and also try gluten free. Good advice. Best of luck to you - I hope it...
  21. I had the "inner trembling", "heart palpitations or skipped beats" and brain fog. All gone now. Ravenwoodglass had the spots on the brain that showed on the MRI. You might PM her. Avoiding all gluten might make your symptoms go away or lessen. You may have other things, as the other (very smart) posters mentioned, but going gluten free is a good...
  22. Have you tried the website fitday dot com? You can enter recipies and it will give you calories, protein, carbs per serving. It's a free website. ~Laura
  23. I had this prior to going gluten-free. I've not had it since. Are you getting enough magnesium? ~Laura

ARCHIVED I Do Not Know What To Do

Sorry you're having a rough time. RiceGuy and Ravenwood have good suggestions. I would suggest eating soothing, non-spicy easy to digest foods with few ingredients. If the hot&sour soup had soy sauce in it, that might be a problem: most soy sauces sold in the US have gluten/wheat in them. Try applesauce, jello, Progresso Chicken/Wild Rice...
  25. Ellen, I'm not sure that there is a gene for MM. If there is research or if you've read about it please post the info. The last I read stated that scientists think that some but not all MM is genetic but I was not aware that they've found the gene as they have in celiac. I would say, yes, have your blood screened for MGUS but only if you don't want...
