  1. Hi Lovebugs, I agree that taking your family (or at least the kids) Gluten-free at home would be easier. I imagine it would make any 4 year old mad that the baby could have something when the other kid couldn't. My 15 y.o. is having terrible time watching friends and family eat wheat pizza, cake etc., and he's old enough to notice the symptoms when he...
  2. I had several things that I did when my kids were little (and this was pre-gluten free but it should still work). One was a dinosaur theme, and I got plastic dinos, fake palm trees etc. The kids played with them for years. I used colored sugar sprinkles for grass (green), mountains (purple) and lava (red or red icing). I made a three level cake to...
  3. It certainly could be the problem. And you should certainly go to your doctor because after having the surgery you need to be extra careful to get good nutrition, right? Have your doc do the blood test while you're still eating gluten and go from there. This site has a lot of good info. Good luck.
  4. What's a COUG doing in Jersey? I'm a Husky (sorry) but am also saying GO COUGS on this. (My brother is a COUG, does that help?) ~Laura
  5. kbtoyssni ALERT temporary thread hijack- It is SO REWARDING to see you in the picture with your cap and gown! You stuck with it and finished and you should be proud. Hijack complete. Please return to your regularly scheduled program. ~Laura
  6. Bearly, I hope you get better. Minnowjoy, I don't think you'll have to be on the drugs forever. Most celiacs are ok after going gluten free, but I guess that depends on your level of damage and if you have any other conditions. Be sure to ask questions about the diet, as the learning curve is steep. This is a good place to get good info. ~Laura
  7. I think your spelling might be wrong: Do you mean an increased number of intra-epithelial lymphocytes? That is just a clinical finding of celiac, Marsh Level One. Open Original Shared Link The drugs (someone correct me if I'm wrong) are prescribed to calm your intestinal symptoms and are given to those with other diagnoses like Crohns, ulcerative...
  8. Thanks riceguy. I appreciate your input, especially about the hormones. Shay, I think that moderate exercise is the key, as long as he has the energy for it.
  9. Thanks Joopie. I appreciate hearing from you.
  10. Yes, Shay, thanks! That does help. Of course, he is off milk because he is casein intolerant and I told him no/minimal soy due to the estrogen. I try for organic meats and will focus on that. We haven't done the lavender or tea tree oil and I don't ever microwave with plastic. He doesn't use many toiletries but I will check. He plays fall league soccer...
  11. I am not an expert (nor do I play one on TV) but a couple things come to mind: If you keep losing weight, you won't have enough milk OR you will get so sick you won't be able to function. Obviously, the extreme of weightloss could be deadly to you, and that won't help you raise your child. I don't know about testing but I do know that both my sister...

    ARCHIVED Great Dr In Seattle

The key words here are "Without OBVIOUS evidence". As we all know, celiac isn't always textbook. I would ask to see the pathology report from the biopsies. Inflamation is a bad sign. However, some docs won't diagnose celiac at the Marsh 0 or Marsh 1 level. see this link. Open Original Shared Link You may have "increased number of intra-epithelial...
  13. I forwarded your message to a friend of mine who has a daughter about 10. We are in Seattle. Good luck! ~Laura
  14. I'm just in love with this recipe so I'm making it again tonight. And Holiday16, I always use parchment paper when baking now. I put it in the bottom of the pan when I make brownies and I bake my cookies on it too. I saves cleanup time. ~Laura
  15. Anna, I'm teary-eyed too. Gabe is lucky to have you and you, of course, are blessed to have him. May you all have joyful lives. ~Laura
  16. NannyB- thanks! I'll try it. ~Laura
  17. I really liked this pizza crust recipe! Open Original Shared Link It's the best I've made so far and I've tried quite a few. The dough looked awful before I mixed it the 5 minutes and then looked unimpressive but the taste and final product look and feel were great. I prebaked the crust as it said and used the hot stone/pan but I didn't broil it ...
  18. I'll try it again with Bob's biscuit mix, which has baking powder. We can't use Pamela's anymore because it has milk, however I was having problems with the rise before I substituted almond or rice milk for cow's milk, so it's not the lack of milk. I might try separating my eggs and whipping the egg whites to a peak, then blending the other ingredients...
  19. I signed up years ago to be a donor and was very unhappy to read that it might be a problem. I haven't taken myself off the list yet but next time they send me an update form I'm going to fill it out and see what they say. ~Laura
  20. I believe that the answer is "NO". There is a documented case of someone getting celiac from a donor, although the donor was his sister, so the donee may have gotten celiac anyway at some point. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Here's the link to the National Bone Marrow Registry - it says "no" to anyone with an autoimmune...
  21. Bump. Here's a link to their gluten-free site. Open Original Shared Link Anyone? ~Laura
  22. Grr...I'm so frustrated with this. Has anyone made one gluten-free that puffs up on the edges? My tries taste good but they're flat as, well, a pancake! Not at all puffy. I've tried less eggs, more eggs, less flour, big pan, little pan. Has anyone tried it without x-gum? Maybe I should try that now. This was my son's favorite bfast treat...
  23. We should all meet there sometime in July! ~Laura
  24. Darn search function won
