  1. My $0.02 worth of opinion: Preeclampsia causes are not certain but may have to do with maternal nutritional deficiencies, lack of calcium, lack of magnesium, poor diet, high body fat (mother), and pre-existing maternal conditions. Speaking for myself, pre-gluten-free I was deficient in minerals/vitamins. The pre-existing maternal conditions listed...
  2. I hate to burst your bubble about pizza...but you won't need a pan with holes. Most gluten-free pizza dough is more like cake batter and would go through the holes anyway. It's best to just toss that since you can't get it clean anyway. I found a pizza crust that I love Love LOVE but it took me about 6-8 months to "forget" what real pizza tastes like...
  3. My opinion: Non-stick cookware - toss Metal baking pans or glass baking pans - keep (I use parchement paper too) Tupperware - if relatively new and unscratched maybe (but I tossed mine) (definitely throw out plastic containers used to store flour) Toaster oven - no (I wouldn't risk it...maybe if you have one that you can take apart to clean...maybe...
  4. I agree with everything tarnalberry said (I usually do- she gives good advice). I have an osteopenia diagnosis and I do what she says. I take this Open Original Shared Link from Nature Made. MOST (but not all) Nature Made products are gluten-free and say so in words on the label so read the label before buying. It has the Vitamin D plus magnesium and...
  5. Ryebaby, actually celiac disease has been shown to be a reason why kids aren't as tall as they were expected to be. Early diagnosis is key, so Hailey your son should be ok. I too had an underweight, non-growing boy. Up until he was 12 he was 75%tile for height, 50%tile for weight. Last year prior to gluten-free, hewas 15, no signs of puberty, had a bone...
  6. Foxfire and NorthernElf, I too had a lot of the heart palpitations and head surges/rushes when trying to sleep, along with the HBP spikes prior to diagnosis. They went away but came back a few weeks ago. I was thinking that maybe I needed to have some heart tests done or see a doctor but then I realized that I had been too busy and had forgotten my...
  7. Good for you! I remember when you posed your first post last year and mentioned getting your son tested. I'm glad he looks better. My son is growing faster now, but still not gaining weight, only 105 pounds. He's 16 and is 5'8" so not as short as he used to be, but he still looks young. Instead of people saying "Are you 12 years old?" they say "Are...
  8. It's really hard to "scare" or convince people to go gluten-free ore even get tested. Of course, the unreliable (IMHO) testing methods available to doctors and patients is partially to blame. For example, I have two co-workers who I expect might have a problem w/gluten. One has rheumatoid arthritis and her doctor advised her to go gluten-free/CF...
  9. A lot of us get better right away and then a few weeks later start to feel bad again. I did. I had to eat really carefully for a few months - not too much food, not too fatty, not raw veggies. But your meals that you listed had two of what you say you're allergic to (or intolderant of) ... corn (grits) and milk (cream & butter). Plus most...
  10. Hannah, hope you're better soon. Do you have two sisters, one celiac and one not?
  11. Emily, I sent you an email via your AOL email address. ~Laura
  12. Some people get immediate reactions, some don't. I can sometimes tell within 5 minutes of eating. I start burping and my stomach may make noices and I feel nauseous. Sorry about your mix-up and hope you feel better soon.
  13. Cinnamon, I was also going to suggest Karina. Not vegan myself, but I love Love LOVE her recipies. But if you want my opinion, I would not try any new foods right now, and would keep a food diary. Raw or uncooked fruits and veggies may be making you hurt. Some people find that they have to eat little, small, cooked food meals for a while until...
  14. Others have given good advice. If you decide that you want to - cheaply - continue and try to get a college degree, let me know and I can help with that. I teach classes for colleges that offer online degrees, some very cheaply. I'm talking about accredited colleges, not diplomas that you "buy". I have sources that can help you plan a degree (for free...
  15. Hi ChloesMomma, sorry you're having to deal with this but it may help you recover and feel better for the last part of the pregnancy and the fun part after delivery! For the next few weeks, try not to stress about learning everything. Eat plain food for a while. You can safely eat: Rice (plain white or brown or cooked with butter) Plain chicken, beef...
  16. Thank you! I'm going there two times in the next week!
  17. Have you tried plain ketchup? Plain vinegar? Plain mustard? If not, try those first - see if you're sensitive. Then make your own BBQ sauce. It's easy. I can post a recepie later or you can try an online site like epicurious dot com.
  18. No advice but I'll send lots of prayers! My sister is a NICU RN - she's worked in a Level III NICU (which is where you'll be if you need it) for 25 years since graduating from college/nursing school. Those nurses are so dedicated and so caring. You will find that they give good advice and help support the parents while they care for the babies. My...
  19. I have a lot of the Sjogrens symptoms but my eyes and mouth have gotten so much better recently. Try flax seed oil (capsules or liquid). My eye doctor told me to take the dose listed on the bottle for six weeks, and that'd I'd see a difference. Fish oil, he said, wasn't as useful for eyes. He also said six weeks on and then four-six weeks off, so I...
  20. Sharon, welcome in advance. HOpe you have a good trip. McCormick and Schmick's - Open Original Shared Link Locations in Seattle, Downtown Seattle and Bellevue. I've never gotten glutened there and I've eaten there ~20 times. Ask the server for help- always very nice. Seattle, Lynnwood -PFChangs. Always order off the gluten-free menu. Good experiences...
  21. I agree about the not worrying ...but it is hard. SBJ, some stomach cancer is also linked to celiac, as are some cases of melanoma I believe. I doubt that you could say that colon cancer is not related - there isn't enough/any research to prove or disprove it. I am working up to my first colonoscopy (I just turned 50...). I get terrible sores...
  22. I must have missed this before. My hubby saw an ad for Pizza Works today. Glad to hear it checked out. My son and I are going to go there...maybe tomorrow night!
  23. No, I won't eat at McD. Foodiegurl, that's funny because Chipotle (last I heard) was owned by McD's.
  24. Very scary. Hang in there, mom. I know it's rough...we'd rather it be us sick than our kids. I agree that you should have a quick blood test and the endoscopy. I don't think all kids should have endoscopies but yours is a special case in that you have a pretty sick kid and the stakes are high. If you can't get the tests right away, you could have...
