  1. I too have to have something in my stomach. I like mashed or baked potatoes, rice or rice noodles. Pepto Bismal is my drug of choice. It quiets the rumblies in my tummies and makes me more confident in public. ~Laura
  2. Mint tea - either peppermint or lemon balm (from the mint family of plants) I drink Trader Joe's Mint Melange - which has peppermint, spearmint and lemon grass or I drink The Republic of Tea's "Mint Fields Herb Tea" which has spearmint, peppermint and lemon balm. Both were gluten-free when I purchased them, but I check every time. I don't trust Tazo...
  3. I have episodes of intense anxiety and low-level overall anxiety. I find that I have the most problems when I stop taking my vitamins. There's a chance that it's a placebo effect, but when I forgot my vitamins last week I got really anxious. I take sublingual B-12, plus sub-lingual B6 and folic acid. I take a multi plus a calcium-zinc-magnesium-Vit D supplement...
  4. I think I remember reading that that was one of the reasons that the pill-cam is used -- they suspect that more damage occurs in the unreachable (by endoscopy) part of the small intestine. The downside to the pill-cam is that it can't take samples. ~Laura
  5. Add me to the list. Mine are always spiders and/or webs. I haven't had one in a while so maybe they were related to gluten. I always thought it was part of my other sleep habits, like talking in my sleep and not remembering later or getting up, walking across the room and turning off the alarm and not remembering later.
  6. Hang in there Beth. And I know it's hard not to have a diagnosis but I'm glad you're going to give gluten-free a chance. My best to you. ~Laura
  7. Not to be arguementative, but I DID have stomach pain. I thought I had an ulcer, but it wasn't always a sharp pain. Sometimes sharp, sometimes dull. Some nausea. Slamduncan, I too gained a lot of weight right before diagnosis. I complained to my doc that I was so bloated I gained 6 inches in my waist in three months. Unfortunately, I haven't been...
  8. Beth, make sure you come back and tell us how it went and if you get a diagnosis. I'm glad you're going gluten-free after...hope it helps you heal. Best of luck, ~Laura
  9. I would say (based on others' experiences) that you should give it at least 6-8 weeks. It sometimes takes that long to clear things up and also to get good enough that you don't accidentally "gluten" her, which in some people might set you back weeks. The payoff would be good so I stay keep trying. Good luck to you. ~Laura
  10. I think the most recent statistics are that 40% (including me) were overweight at the time of diagnosis. I am (too) close to being obese...scary. I think my body still thinks it's starving. My nutritionist told me at diagnosis that my body thought it was starving so it held on to every last calorie and it lowered my metabolism so I wouldn't burn more calories...
  11. I think that a capsule endoscopy is one of the cutting-edge diagnosis methods, as it can show more of the small intestine than can be seen in a normal/standard endoscopy. It certainly is better than nothing. There were some comments on this board about how it is the method used on hard-to-diagnose cases. If you do a seach for "capsule endoscopy" or some...
  12. It could be a lipoma. Open Original Shared Link ~Laura
  13. I don't know about Vitamin A but my eye doctor told me to try flax seed oil. It did help me. Open Original Shared Link She could also try cod liver oil...it has vitamin A and omega-3 and omega-6 too like flax seed oil.
  14. I love Chipotle too. It's the best fast food option on the road or for an emergency meal out.
  15. I too loved Uno's pizza. It's best hot. I had it two times in three days when visiting. There aren't any in Seattle...yet. Of course, I haven't had zPizza either, since there aren't any here either. Looks like Seattle is behind as far as chains that have gluten-free options.
  16. I'm sorry for your loss...my condolences. On behalf of all of us here, I'd like to say "We love you...hang in there!" Laura
  17. And from the same website, here is an article about traveling in Croatia gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link
  18. Tunibell, it's hard to get such a diagnosis, and (remembering when my kids were little) much more so with a little one or two, sleep deprivation, etc. I think your doc is right and you must have a pretty savvy doc if he realizes how hard celiac is on a body. A lot of us here (including me... but I've heard this a lot) get feeling better right away ...
  19. I would expect that not many of us here are Croatian or experts on Croatia. You can read this sub-forum for hints on travel in general. This link is to free dining cards with translation into Croatian (among others). Open Original Shared Link I would print out enough of these cards for each meal and take them with you. Good luck.
  20. Give it more time. I used to have this all over but noticed last summer after a year gluten-free that it was gone. I hope it clears up for you...maybe next summer you'll be wearing shorts and short skirts!
  21. Yes on the anemia, bone pain, asthma and excema ...not sure on the others. Did you get the celiac blood test back?
  22. Anyone had any bad experiences with the ground turkey? It is supposed to be gluten-free/CF. Open Original Shared Link My son and I both got sick last night within an hour of having dinner and this is the only thing that we both ate. I cooked it on clean aluminum foil so it wasn't contaminated in cooking. Hubby didn't get sick so it wasn't spoiled...
  23. We love them but unfortunately both my son and I react to both plain and vinegar/flavored ones. I think it's either CC in processing or maybe we are reacting to the oil. I think safflower oil is the culprit - maybe it is contaminated. I've had the same problem with other chips that have safflower oil. I haven't researched but maybe safflower is grown...
  24. Welcome, and yes it sounds like you do belong here. Diagnosis or not, it seems like you have a problem with gluten. I'm another who gained weight like crazy pre-diagnosis and though I haven't lost any (yet) I am not gaining and feel a lot healthier. Regarding getting a diagnosis, I'm not sure that you need one unless you 1) need it to keep you...
