  1. I have had occasional accidental glutenings over the past 6 months (haven't we all?). The best remedy I've found is tea. I have had success with Lemon Balm tea. Lemon Balm is a medieval herb used for stomach problems and as a sleep aide. We have some growing in our yard. You can also buy seeds and I have bought tea bags. Peppermint tea is also...
  2. I loved the papadums, but BEWARE. I won't eat them anymore. When I first tried them they were ok. But after reading that there is wheat in the Masala variety, I realized why I had started reacting to the Yogurt Dill variety, as they are made on the same equipment. I hate it when they do that!
  3. Wednesday plans, anyone? I haven't been able to cook ahead enough and am struggling to get enough veggies. Hopefully that will change soon. B'fast- Chili/Cheese square (eggs plus egg whites, green chilis and low-fat mexican cheese), tea Snack - lunchmeat with low-fat cheddar Lunch- true cod and shrimp with low-fat dressing, veggies, apple ...
  4. Wow, Beth you have a lot of good recipies. I don't usually get tired of eggs but I have quite a few ways that I cook them. I can post some recipies later. I usually do a make-ahead casserole thingy (but not today). I am eating fruit, so kind of a modified Phase I. Two years ago when I did this I missed the whole strawberry season, so I'm not doing...
  5. Great, sounds good. ~Laura
  6. Dandelion and Jeanne, I never started last month but I'm ready to start now! Do we want to start a new thread or do you want to do it via PM? ~Laura
  7. Raven, my sympathies. It is good to never forget, but painful too. I wish you peace. ~Laura
  8. Burdee, thank you for this. I never had a reflux problem until three months before diagnosis. I have to be careful not to eat too much or too fast. And I love spicy foods but have to be careful with them, too. It's nice to read your explanation. ~Laura (P.S. Waving "HI" from another Seattleite.)
  9. Sunny, thank you! You are very sweet to post this. I use a lot of Neutrogena, and luckily haven't had to throw out a lot of stuff too. For Clinique, I spent about an hour in the store reading the tiny print and finally got some anti-aging day cream! Almost all had barley or wheat. ~Laura
  10. I don't have answers for you (I'm new too.) But I think if you're having these issues you may need the support of a dietician. Certainly your doctor should want/need to help you so you don't become (more) malnorished. I still have the opposite problem (overweight) but wonder if I'm malnorished, too. Talking to my doctor next Tuesday. Strange paradox...
  11. Try the Gluten Free Goddess's blog. She has the most amazing recipes. Her gluten-free brownies and coconut-carrot cake are to die for and both my (gluten-eating) teenagers said that they were the best they'd ever had, including gluten recipes! I too love to cook and am finding it quite easy. Although I'm still working on pizza and haven't attempted...
  12. In my opinion, they're not safe. I had a reaction to them immediately and it was the only thing I had eaten, so I'm sure it was the chips. Not BBQ, though, but rice. I won't eat Lundberg again.
  13. Very true. And I didn't listen to him for two reasons: 1) I'd already read this board quite a bit and was convinced that gluten-free was the only way to go and 2) my dietary response was immediate, less than 48 hours and I was feeling SO much better I could never knowingly eat wheat/gluten again. This board rocks.
  14. This Laura had similar results as Laurie. I had an endoscopy for acid reflux and suspected ulcer. GI did biopsies as a matter of course, not suspecting anything. I had a lot of other symptoms but no-one suspected celiac: D, gas, stomach noises constantly, mouth ulcers routinely, anxiety, low-level depression. All of these have gone on the gluten free...
  15. I believe that I was diagnosed with just this finding, and dietary response. I had intraepithelial lymphocytes in biopsy sections but "acceptable" villi and no other visible signs in the biopsy samples. And I had negative blood tests. So my doc was good up to that point. After that, he told me that I had a "light" version of celiac and wouldn't need to...
  16. Hi Sally, Try this! It's a real recipe, not a conversion. It's called Farinata and it's really easy, with ingredients of garbanzo bean flour, olive oil and water. You can add olives, sage and/or caramelized onions. Open Original Shared Link ~Laura
  17. Congratulations! Geoff, just wanted to wish you well at your graduation. Are you going to the ceremony and get "hooded"? I finished my MBA two years ago. I now teach at a college and am walking in their graduation as a faculty member, wearing my gown and hood. I love graduations! Best wishes ~Laura
  18. Yes, I do. I just realized it this past week. I can eat a few potatos or items containing potatoes but not very much. I don't know if it a new thing, related to recently going gluten-free or something I had all along but ignored. I get bloated feeling, stomach pain and my waist went up by three inches. Good luck! ~Laura
  19. Yes, this is me. I have had minor, low-level, constant depression - mainly expressed as laziness - for 30 years. I, too, have a Masters, which I finished two years ago while working full-time. It's not that I don't get things done, I just feel like it's such an effort. But it's cost me some good jobs, where I left because I was perceived as lazy. ...
  20. Who knew? I had foot pain - diagnosed as plantar fasciitis- off and on for years. I got it this year in January, by end of February it was gone. I've never gotten rid of it that fast. I never even thought about it until today, it disappeared when I went gluten-free. Amazing! Thanks ELS! ~Laura
  21. Interesting question. I was diagnosed after having stomach pains, heartburn - both of which were new symptoms- starting in November and December 2006. Meds didn't help. My internist set me up for a endoscopy for an ulcer: the GI took biopsies and found evidence of inflamation but saw no blunting. So I had a quick diagnosis, comparatively. I think...
  22. Ursa, you must not have read any other my other posts but I am very familiar with the Paleo diet, have read the book and my hubby has been on it for 2 years. Further, I don't consider that I'm a SBD groupie or that I follow it blindly, i.e., I don't use aspartame, limit dairy and I am knowledgeable about contaminated fish. I also don't buy any SBD food...
  23. Thanks Jeanne. Funny, I'm an adjunct college instructor (and a banker full-time). Your 15 pound loss and the fact that you kept it off is a good result. I'd be happy with that. I will be doing it mostly dairy free (and gluten free, of course). I did look at the SBD forum but would rather have someone to talk to who is both celiac and SBD...
  24. Hi everyone, I need to lose about 30 pounds and am going to start the South Beach Diet in a few days. Anyone want to join me? ~Laura
  25. All microwaved gluten-free things HAVE TO BE covered when using a possibly contaminated microwave. Either use the tupperware/ziplock container lid (slightly open) or cover with plastic wrap with only a few small steam vents. A paper plate cover will work as long as it doesn't fall off. I have learned through bad experiences that even boiling water must...
