ARCHIVED Clothes And Frustration
JNBunnie1 replied to radgirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm cheap, so most of my clothes are hand-me downs from stylish friends who are generous or purchased at thrift stores, but for what I do buy new, I actually prefer that thigh shrinkage thing. Apparently, it hasn't occured to most clothing manufacturers that some women have big butts and skinny legs. I hate it when I try to buy tailored-looking jeans and... -
ARCHIVED Can You Eat At A Friend's House?
JNBunnie1 replied to okgrace's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I usually say something like this "Oh, great! I'd love to. So you know, I have Celiac, major food issues, so can I bring a hefty side dish that'll be enough for my dinner and to share as a side with everyone? It would be way too much to ask you to do the work necessary to make food safe for me, so I'd rather just bring something if that's ok." -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac? I Am Confused
JNBunnie1 replied to TruckerBird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do that, but I use the lemon juice in a bottle and a spoonful of honey to make honey-lemon tea. Much tastier than expensive storebought honey-lemon 'flavor' tea. -
ARCHIVED I Have A Question About Eating Yogurt, Etc...
JNBunnie1 replied to nikki2008's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Darlin, you're doing great! It took me over a year for all my symptoms to completely resolve, and my stomach is still touchy sometimes. If the bloating is bothering you, try getting some 100% cranberry juice and I make a cocktail with just a little OJ and plain seltzer. There's also a lot of good cleansing Yogi teas that would be a good idea for you to have... -
ARCHIVED I Have A Question About Eating Yogurt, Etc...
JNBunnie1 replied to nikki2008's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I become lactose intolerant when I've been glutened, but tolerate raw dairy fine otherwise. I personally try to avoid pasteurized dairy, except for yogurt, it's much more difficult to digest. I would suggest waiting a week, try taking some lactase enzyme and then eat a little yogurt, and see if you react again. That would be a good indicator. Other people... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Culinary Summit 2008
JNBunnie1 replied to laurelfla's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've been thinking about it, it is pretty pricey though. -
There's a book called eat right 4 your blood type, and it's got quite a following. I personally don't agree with alot of what the author says, and I don't think he's done enough research nutritionally speaking. He recommends a lot of things (for certain bloodtypes) that I have learned just aren't good for anyone. And vice versa. It's an interesting read though...

This is still a pretty broad statement. I personally have trouble taking the warnings of this website seriously, it's obviously 'FDA approved' text and I don't trust them one bit. Other than the low-fat, high-fiber bandwagon which is creating the steep rise in modern illnesses, they also are responsible for untold numbers of high-speed drug approvals that...

Yeah, and are we talking about enemas here or like, senna tea?

ARCHIVED What's For Dinner?
JNBunnie1 replied to WW340's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My 'crap, I don't feel like cooking' dinner is pasta alfredo. It's so easy, with my recipe, you just boil the pasta, make the sauce, and eat. Oh, and we made the cheese Chebe buns for burgers, that works out really good as long as you make the bun really flat so it cooks through. HAven't been able to make it work good for hot dogs. But it makes great pigs... -

ARCHIVED It's A Pain, But Not The End Of The World...
JNBunnie1 replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It took me over a year after gluten free to gain weight, so don't lose hope. I'm 5'7" and I was down to 105. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. Especially working behind the Front desk of a hotel the way I do. People feel like they're entitled to comment on your appearance. No, I'm not anorexic, No, I don't starve myself, yes, I actually do go out in the sun, If you ask... -
I know this is off-topic, but could you point me in the direction of the info you've found to make you feel the same way about flaxseed as you do about soy? I agree with you about soy, but haven't done any research into flaxseed.

ARCHIVED I'm An Idiot - Chicken !
JNBunnie1 replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't trust the rotisserie itself, it must be impossible to clean those things enough to make them safe. Costco chickens are safe? WOOHOO!!!! -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Chip Cookies
JNBunnie1 replied to GRUMP 1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have decided that one of my goals in life is to figure out a choc chip cooke recipe that is sweetened with honey. I've been without normal sugar for so long that it makes me feel ill at this point, and I'm jealous of all these choc chip cookie eaters. So, I will keep everyone posted should I succeed. -
ARCHIVED I'm An Idiot - Chicken !
JNBunnie1 replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The same thing happened to me with a Sam's club chicken, I wouldn't trust those store rotisserie chickens at all. That was my worst glutening ever because I ate so bloody much of it. We bought a rotisserie toaster oven. So there, Sam's. -
ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten...even Lipstick?
JNBunnie1 replied to LeahKristen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rolling pin, dishes with ridges and scratches, and knife blocks. Wood hides gluten. -
ARCHIVED Itchy Skin After Physical Contact With Gluten
JNBunnie1 replied to Chiron's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It may not be DH, although you are obviously reacting. Also, with DH, a lot of people feel the itching and burning BEFORE the bumps show up, I'm one of them. Sometimes up to eight hours before for me. So if in a day or two you don't get little bumps or blisters, then you are probably having some other kind of reaction. I think you're kind of stuck with either... -
ARCHIVED Dutch Oven Cobbler
JNBunnie1 replied to pinktroll's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My xperience with all gluten-free flours has been that they behave better when they are wet for a while before baking. Some people have no trouble with this, but no matter what I cook or bake, unless it's just something that's breaded, I have to put togeter the dough or batter, and then let it sit for at least ten minutes. I never get that gritty result that... -
ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten...even Lipstick?
JNBunnie1 replied to LeahKristen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually, I would think it could get stuck on the sides where the lipstick meets the tube and get back onto the top of the lipstick. I'm uber-paranoid. I found a great makeup place, everyday minerals, that's very well made and inexpensive. I believe they function on the web only, so you'd need to buy it online. Love the lipstick, it's made from coconut and... -
ARCHIVED Peek-a-blues (blueberry Bisquits - Just Like Bisquick!)
JNBunnie1 replied to Donna F's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Can Taking "lactaid" Etc Harm You If You Are Not Lactose Intolerant?
JNBunnie1 replied to toomuchagony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried cod liver oil and sunbaking? The cod liver oil has natural Vit D which is much easier to digest, so you retain it better. -
ARCHIVED Mom Thinks I Was Cursed By The Devil...lol! Rant
JNBunnie1 replied to Bravie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
All of this is very good advice. (how did you get so smart, raven?) There's also the fact that all of this anticipation is also very stressful, and delaying your moving out will only mean you have to deal with her for longer. She won't behave any better two months from now or a year from now. By the way, that 'naughty' stuff with your boyfriend? Might...
