just be careful that she won't be making last minute pies that day....the dust in the air can be killing. The turkey too needs to be vetted. Baked in an oven that has had pies etc.? Bought with natural flavors shot into it?? avoid avoid I am afraid. If it were me I would just have my own non gluten turkey day at home with friends who are supportive...

Bravo for you--for both figuring this out and deciding to quit tobacco. Have you considered trying hypnotherapy to help you quit? My understanding is that it is a lot more effective and quicker than many other methods. Of course any method you try you will need to be really motivated--both for the physical withdrawal and the mental one. A friend...

ARCHIVED Looking For SCD'ers Here, Need Support

Am glad to hear the cave man diet is working for you. It mostly does for me too -- its just that it is complicated by allergies which I also seem to have. Years ago I used to get cracking around my lips and the outside top and bottom of my ears. I think that was both allergies and malabsorption of minerals and vitamins caused by celiac etc. The flaking... -
I agree--its a mess. If I eat brown rice I wash and rinse it about four or five time. It seems to help but not really enough. I don't get glutened strictly speaking but I do get itchy and flaky skin in my ears and nethers. I also however seem to be allergic to fruit and sugars and vitamin C, but that is another story. I have found doctors to be of...

ARCHIVED Looking For SCD'ers Here, Need Support

I have been tested though its been a while since I was. Supposedly I don't have candida overgrowth. Its hard to believe since I also get gunk on my tongue in the morning when I have eaten an offending item. I thus have treated myself for fungal infection using herbs from time to time as well as topical creams. I was treated with nystatin years ago by a... -

I am so glad to hear the scd diet is helping you so much. Bravo for you! Given your family history with your dad's concoctions, you probably aren't the only ones in your genetic lineup to have this and similar conditions. though honestly the standard american diet is not very good for anyone...and does create cravings for carbs and sugars. As far as being... -

There were/are a lot of things I did and do that aren't completely in line with scd mainly due to the fact I have so many food intolerances. Stevia is not really part of their diet. It is a member of the sunflower family actually. Why that should be a problem I never really figured out. There was a big scare about stevia years ago that was completely... -

Hi there--you are not alone. I know there are many others here like us. I'm 99% on a grain free diet. I participated with AliBi's thread for 10 months or so. I only eat some rice when nothing else is available. I do eat summer squash and now and then a little winter squash. I can't handle sweets of any kind except stevia--so my diet is actually more restricted... -
Have you thought of baking your own gluten-free pizza? They sell easy mixes. Even if you don't eat it, baking it in the oven and then kissing the guy won't then be a problem. They taste just like regular pizzas... Ditto with a bunch of other stuff like cookies and cakes. MIght just be worth doing the little bit of extra work? Bea

More to the point--don't share plastic or wooden dish-ware. In addition, don't share an oven without first running it through the self cleaning cycle. If your partner is going to heat up pizza's--I suggest one of you purchase and be the only one to use a large toaster oven. Sharing an oven with gluten will make most of us here sick. Both my bf...

ARCHIVED Help! Dd W/major Rash After Iodine In Hospital
YoloGx replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't think DH is as rare as you think--esp. if you have celiac! Its simply another way it shows itself... By all means have the test since the docs are alerted. And whether or not it is positive, I would take her off the gluten. -
You are right, it is a scary thought. I have often wondered about this problem of CC of supposedly gluten-free foods--especially the grains. I have universally reacted to all of them. I can have some (throughly washed before cooking) brown rice however on occasion without the reaction. So something is definitely up here... Also my boyfriend reminds me...

ARCHIVED When Just Being In A Restaurant Makes You Sick
YoloGx replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree--you should try it again--without the sweet tea! Bring your own instead. However it is also possible that since they make bread there you could be getting glutened by the atmosphere. I have gotten badly glutened just walking through a pizzaria to use the bathroom and then sitting outside at one of their tables-- consuming nothing while my companion... -
I suggest going off all grains and then when you are stabilized, add one grain at a time to find the culprit. Its also possible you may have candida overgrowth, and thus the honey as well as ground up grains (and possibly grains in general) might be feeding the candida. Garbanzo flour can also feed candida. If this last possibility is the case, normally...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Like Being Celiac
YoloGx replied to runningcrazy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I like being celiac in that following this diet I look and feel like I am 15 to 20 years younger than most people my age (61). I also am much more knowledgeable about health which feels good. I already went through a lot of the stuff beginning in my twenties that a lot of people don't face until they are my age. The final blessing came 3 years ago when... -
ARCHIVED In A Slump And Need Some Help
YoloGx replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can eat out occasionally if you go to a place with a dedicated gluten free menu. I have found PF Chang's to be safe as long as I remind them to wash their hands etc. between delivering orders. Haven't done as well at that Australian place--Outback. But maybe it could work for you as long as you remind them of your needs. I also suggest for dating... -
ARCHIVED Sometimes, I Really, Really Wonder.
YoloGx replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well--maybe that in part explains why I don't tolerate grains in general or legumes except for chinese peas or string beans. CC everywhere simply in the growth and processing of grains and legumes!! Nevertheless I would like to experience less problems simply walking around the dusty aisles of Home Depot for instance... They use glutenous starch in sheet... -

YoloGx replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow that is quite a thought! I am interested in what others have to say about it. I think I do have a reaction to most grains though not as intensely as the wheat family. I often wonder if its also a problem of similar CC-ing... I am not strictly allergic to soy but have been told it is bad for me so I stay away from it. I don't really think its that... -

Distilled alcohol hasn't worked for me either. I had violent D after simply kissing an ex boyfriend who drank the stuff. Tinctures too are out of the question. I avoid shampoos that have tinctures as well as body lotion. I use plain jojoba oil, coconut oil and olive oil on my skin instead. As far as the biotin --I take the B vitamins in a complex regularly... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Grain-Free?
YoloGx replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to confuse you. "Sunnies" refers to sunflower seeds. I beleive you can grind up just about any nut or seed in a simple coffee grinder, a little at a time of course. You just need to experiment to see what works for you. The meal is equivalent to "flour" as in almond meal. If you can have eggs it makes it a lot easier. You can look up recipes... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Grain-Free?
YoloGx replied to precious831's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am avoiding all grains of late in order to help kill of the yeast. I am also avoiding all fruit except lemons. I am allergic to all nuts but can make pancakes etc. using fresh ground up sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Sometimes I also add some flax seed. Am allergic to eggs, so I use xanthum gum as a kind of egg substitute. Of late I put in shredded... -
ARCHIVED Importance Of Cross-Contamination ?
YoloGx replied to fallout1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I learned the hard way that eating food packaged or otherwise processed in the same facility as wheat etc. is processed absolutely does not work for me. It doesn't work for my boyfriend either even though he can handle a little more CC than I. I didn't know it would bother me until after I avoided all trace glutens. Its what it took to both feel better... -
ARCHIVED Lymphocyte, Retic, Lymph Nodes - Celiac Related?
YoloGx replied to stilltired's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with the above reply. Just want to note that with untreated celiac its a lot easier to get cancer. Treating it by going off all trace gluten however makes one much less at risk than average. Go figure, eh? So it is worth all the trouble. I also suggest you start taking some good detox herbs like dandelion root and milk thistle regularly, with... -
ARCHIVED Back From 6 Weeks Backpacking gluten-free In Europe
YoloGx replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like a wonderful trip! Wish I could eat sugary, gluten-free floury, yeasty, lactose items but can't. I am betting you can buy basic food to cook yourself. My question is do they often offer that too as gluten-free fare in restaurants etc.?
