  1. I used to own a bakery/catering business so when I first learned I needed to go gluten-free, first thing I made was Choc chip cookies. 1. I use a mix of brown and white rice about 1/2 each in the rice flour/potato/tapioca mix. THis is the basic flour mix I use. 2. I buy the white rice, and both starches at Asian Markets- MUCH CHEAPER.. Just be sure...
  2. First couple of months were tough, Having to read EVERYTHING and coming to grips with places I could not go or things that I could no longer eat. But I dived into this wonderful site and got lots of cookbooks at the library and found reciepes on here and other places on net. 4 mo into this, I had to have some major surgery 2 weeks ago so I baked up some...
  3. I was dx'd with fibro 18 years ago. Seems about every 4-5 years I have to change the meds. 1st of this year I started having symptoms of what I searched and found to be Gluten Intolerance. Had food allergy blood work done and enterolab, Tests came back positive, However just had surgery because bladder was fused to colon so that might have helped it along...
  4. I am fairly new to this as well, this site has been wonderful. NOGLUGIRL has a basic list I think, best advise I have is to read labels. As far as the pricey health food store stuff I try to stay away from most of this. I find I do not like the taste, i tend to find receipes and make my own and I have stepped outside of what I am used to eating. Overall I...
  5. I am going to have surgery Thurs so I am trying to cook up some things cause hubby will not be able to just stop and get something on the way home-lol Choc Chip Scones, These went great. Hamburger buns- jury is out those are on tonights menu OK- UPDATE these tasted ok but more like a biscut than a bun, Am I being too picky or does someone out there have...
  6. I went gluten-free about 2 months ago and have found some great cookbooks. I too have a kitchenaid mixer- to me way more important than the bread maker. #1 if too easy I am liable to eat it all time and get fat and I find that the oven bread from most opinions is a little better, but homemade bread is always better than machine IMHO. Good luck,,, lots...
  7. No real advise would love to vent with you. I too am having trouble feeling up to cooking plus now I have to have some surgery and will have to rely on others to provide so that will not be good I know. Hope it gets better for you soon. When I am feeling decent, I try to cook up some breads, deserts etc to keep on hand in freezer. P.S. I have tried...
  8. Put your vitamens next to your toothpaste, and take them in am, B's tend to keep you awake so take early and you can always take some others at 2nd teeth brushing. just and idea
  9. Please add me to the lower left ab pain with no explanation group. Have had all kinds of tests, started gluten-free 2 months ago and it got better but still have probs with it but it is not so constant now. I have more tests going next week to make sure not FEMALE probs.
  10. I was diagnosed at 43, I have also recently had a CT scan where the little pockets all showed up very nicely. Have had docs tell me to eliminate whole corn, nuts etc but new ones say no those are actually ok to eat UNLESS you are in a flare or infected. I am careful about when I eat salads and things, make sure everything is moving ok- kwim When in a...
  11. My Gyno recomends the use of mineral oil for a lubricant and it works very well. He also gave me a scrip for lidocane. - A numbing agent that has worked wonders for those times when I am ready but the body is not.. kwim...
  12. In my fridge, I keep a container of premixed gluten-free flour- white rice, potato starch and tapioca starch, then I have another one of Bette Hagman's French bread flour. I also keep teff, brown rice flour etc for receipes. No, If I am only using that small amount of flour I do not add gum, For cakes, cookes, breads etc, I use it if the receipe calls...
  13. I have been dealing with VV for over 6 years. I was just talking with hubby the other day, we have both noticed everything "down there" seems to be better now. I have been gluten-free for about 2 months now. No it is not 100% great now but at least not always "closed for repairs" lol
  14. I am interested in trying this out- where do I find it, so far not in my grocery store or health food store yet..
  15. Thanks all, I was very frusterated by lack of instructions too, VERY pricey items, hope with some of these suggestions they will be better.
  16. Just fixed these and pizza taste was ok, but the crust was like eating raw dough. These were precooked, but I still put them in oven at 425 after I put toppings on. Any better way to cook this I liked a nice thin crispy crust...Can I still have one
  17. I have always been a baker and love to cook good ole comfort food. Needless to say not being able to use wheat thru me into a tizzy. I went straight to local library and some sites on web, (this being the best) and found reciepes. I can honestly say I have found a GREAT cake receipe, decent choc chip cookies (they were first) , made bread and a great french...
  18. Sorry you are struggling so much at this age. One thing that also helped me was I had food allergy blood work done- They tested for almost 100 diff products. I am allergic to 27... Results may surprise you. Good Luck
  19. I find I must order the salmon with no grill baste and no seasoning. many seasonings have gluten in them, and grill baste always does it seems.
  20. Welcome to the club.. After getting my test results and trying a gluten-free diet and feeling better it was a relief to finally understand maybe some of my problems and know that there is at least one of them I CAN CONTROL. I have been on gluten-free for about 6 weeks. All of above info is great this site is a daily visit for me (or 2) I use a...
  21. I shop at asian markets for the rice flour, tapicoa and potato starch, MUCH Cheaper.. Great cookbooks are out there and I am having good luck using some of my normal dessert reciepes and using diff flour. I use teff sometimes and like the texture it provides in certain products, esp choc items and some breads. I strongly reccomend using a silpat for baking...
  22. I have had a Kitchenaid for over 15 years and LOVE IT... I have the one where you raise the bowl, not the head of the machine. Get the best you can afford, you will have this machine for life. I also have the food grinder attachment, i use this a lot to grind meat for chicken salad and other items, I am also going to buy the pasta plates so I can make...
  23. It can be a little overwhelming at times but stay right in there and you will find you feel better, and the better you feel the better you can cope with it. Tons of info and support are here and all over the web you can find receipes to help. You do not mention your age, but I know the younger you are sometimes the longer it takes to jump on board with this...
  24. I will just say Welcome. I am new to all this, just got lab results last week and have gluten free for about 2 months. I have learned a lot, been angry/depressed about it some, but with all the chronic illness I have in my life it is nice to know I have control over one of them at least. I have been able to find reciepes for many foods I crave. I wish...
  25. I just got my results back yesterday and they confirmed what I had suspected, Yes I have a gluten problem. I would reccomend the tests, however I did not do the gene test, I figure what good to know if I have the genes, because I know I feel better on the diet and if I stick to it I hopefully will never turn full celiac. Good Luck
