Hey lyndszai. Have you seen the posts about enterolab.com in here? They do testing for celiac, and are supposed to be more accurate than the blood and biopsy are. And they can test you when you've been gluten-free for awhile. The only problem you might have, is that I don't think medical insurance covers their testing, and your doctor may not accept...

Deanna, do you know about enterolab? They can test you for the disease, when you've been gluten free for awhile. They can even do a genetic test. That could give you your proof. Though, from the sound of it, your ex-husband may not be willing to accept that, since you didn't go to a doctor's office to get tested. Just a guess. The testing is done by...

ARCHIVED Does An "accident" Mean All Work Done, Lost?
Alexolua replied to Alexolua's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Does he need to aviod Dairy? The Vanilla swirl isn't dairy free, even though they claim it. The drinks though, aren't gluten-free. -
Tell that to my GI Doctor, celiac3270! LOL I know that, he doesn't seem to. =) Burdee, ah.. that sounds like an interesting idea. Think I'll try that! Though it's not that I don't believe Enterolab, I just want to get this doctor to accept I have it too! Be really helpful if he did, lol. I have seen people mentioning places that specialize in research...

Seeing my GI Doc in one week. My biopsies were negative, my blood test was a maybe, so I don't have celiac disease in his eyes. And I can't say I'm feeling much better yet either, which will be more poof to him. Enterolab did say I have it, but he doesn't accept that. And he doesn't think I'm allergic to casein, since my reaction is the next day! Sigh...

Yeah, that's the kind I have too. But seeing this thread made me go "AHHHH!" So I ran downstairs and checked, LOL. Phew. =) -
ARCHIVED Can We Look Forward To This Soon?
Alexolua replied to Pegster's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That seemed well thought out for rambling, so nothing to be sorry for. =) I agree too. -
ARCHIVED Can We Look Forward To This Soon?
Alexolua replied to Pegster's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wow, that totally rocks! I don't think that's something that'll be happening soon, but once places here figure out there would be money to be made by doing that, they might. Uhh.. yeah, maybe that's a bit jaded view. =) -
ARCHIVED Tropicana Oj
Alexolua replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank god!! Reading this made me sooo scared, but mine says 48 before it. Though yikes.. hopefully the others I use to have, were gluten-free too. Thanks for this post!! Since I drink it, and thought it was all gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Celiac On Contdown With Keith Olbermann.
Alexolua posted a topic in Publications & Publicity
*Countdown* Argh.. can't edit title, lol. It was just on, but I'm on the Eastcoast.. so maybe someone else will have a chance to catch it on the westcoast? Though it is repeated here, at 12 ET time too. They had on the girl and mother mentioned in this Open Original Shared Link. Thought I'd start a new thread, since it was on a TV show others might... -
ARCHIVED Firmly Gf With Continuing Symptoms
Alexolua replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not much I can help with celiac3270, still trying to get better myself. But did have one thing for ya, about the Crystal Light. On the gfcfdiet.com site on their restricted list is Aspartame, which is in Crystal Light. I don't think it is on the list because it has gluten or casein in it, but because they say it can cause IBS symptoms -Irritable Bowel... -
ARCHIVED To Tell Or Not To Tell . . .
Alexolua replied to stargirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
stargirl here's some ideas for you. Not sure this would be entirely correct, but if someone is like.. oh you have a food allergy? Say something like, "No, I have a genetic disorder that makes certain grains like Wheat, Rye, Barley, etc.. toxic to my body, and will cause my immune system to attack my intestines." Maybe not exactly like that, but if you... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Food
Alexolua replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you call them, and no one can tell you for sure, or you get a sense they have no clue.. then my opinion is don't buy their product, since it may not be safe. -
I totally did. But I don't think I'd blame it as something from Celiac. More a result of my health getting worse and worse. Suffering, losing out on life, and having doctors be absolutely no help at all. I ended up getting better from that, maybe improved dealing or coping skills. And that was long before I knew about Celiac and before I went gluten-free...

ARCHIVED To Tell Or Not To Tell . . .
Alexolua replied to stargirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
stargirl: My two cents. If it's a random stranger, than no need to explain it to them, unless it comes up. Like if yer out to eat, or a situation like Tiffany mentions. If it's someone you know, then it's up to you. If it comes up in conservation, than try to explain it? Think if you just blurt it out, without any real warning, then your chances of getting... -
ARCHIVED Brands That List Wheat On Ingregient List
Alexolua replied to lilliexx's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Quick question, to those that might know? Since wheat free, doesn't mean gluten free.. are those products actually gluten free? Or do they just put wheat on the label, when it contains any forms of gluten? Yes, I'm paraniod. =) -
ARCHIVED Should We Be Tested?
Alexolua replied to Rachel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well gluten is in more things than just wheat. Umm.. Barley, Rye, some other grains I can't think of, lol. But, Wheat is a big source of gluten for most people, since we eat it more than the others, on average, I'd think. But, not being an expert, I would say get tested for it! The removing wheat, feeling better, then feeling worse once it's introduced... -
ARCHIVED 1 Week Gluten Free
Alexolua replied to lilliexx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had no problem sleeping, but I did find my hurt head for awhile. Maybe a week max? And my headaches were constant, pounding, then got less and less until I didn't notice I had them anymore. Reading the other posts, sounds like they should go away. =) -
ARCHIVED A Days Menu....
Alexolua replied to XoHeatherxO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
terri -> What brand of corn tortilla do you use? I'm having trouble finding some that are gluten-free.. though I have the added bonus of having to aviod dairy too.. so dunno if what you get would work for me anyway. Reading what y'all eat though, really makes me wish I didn't have any problems with casein! lol -
ARCHIVED A Survey, For Fun
Alexolua replied to ryebaby0's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just off the top of my head, A Foods by George Brownie!! Those are quite yummy (I'd eat them if I could eat gluten, lol), call them dessert or snack. Also dairy free, which works great for me, since I can't have dairy either. =D -
ARCHIVED A Days Menu....
Alexolua replied to XoHeatherxO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
tarnalberry -> Can I come live with you? =D -
If the employees have no clue, then I'd just forget about it. The odds of them cross contaminating something sounds like it would be high. Though if you really want to eat there, try calling the company? Someone there should know. =)

ARCHIVED A Days Menu....
Alexolua replied to XoHeatherxO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll throw in my two cents, though still learning the diet myself. Breakfast, I'll usually have; a banana or an apple and a gluten free snack, like a cookie. Some days we have pine apple, or watermellon, so would have those instead of the banana or apple. Dinner.. (who needs lunch!) Do you like turkey? Get it ground up!! You can make a burger out of... -
