ARCHIVED Intestinal Healing Time
TrillumHunter replied to Ms. Skinny Chic's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's been a year and half for me. I have noticed my digestion seems more regular over the last month. I had lots of ups and downs over the past 18 months. I had my gallbladder out at the end of July and I have gotten consistently better since then. Nothing seems to bother me anymore but my whole family is gluten free and I don't eat many processed foods... -
ARCHIVED How Much Gluten Is In Whole Wheat Bread?
TrillumHunter replied to Melissa394's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Umm, I don't think she's being funny or facetious. I think she's asking a real question. As far as I know, gluten isn't measured like carbs or protein. There aren't any gram counts or anything. I guess for scientific purposes they measure-like parts per million. But you won't find it on any gluten containing product. Some products contain more than others... -
ARCHIVED Lunch Ideas For A Toddler
TrillumHunter replied to wsieving's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cheese quesadilla? Like a grilled cheese but with corn tortillas. If you can get her to eat refried beans with it, it will be more nutritious. If she doesn't like them in it try letting her use them for a dip. -
ARCHIVED Failure To Thrive
TrillumHunter replied to Mommy2Ellie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What a tough label! I don't know any babies but I'll share this. A woman I've know for about eight years had always been sick. Each time I saw her, she was worse. Two years ago she was on oxygen and really looked like a skeleton. The last time I saw I really thought she wasn't going to make it. Finally she was diagnosed with Celiac and started the... -
ARCHIVED Catholics: Avoiding Cc For Communion
TrillumHunter replied to NicoleAJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is absolutely fine and FULL COMMUNION to receive only the Precious Blood. Avoid the largest chalice that the priest uses during the Consecration as it has a small bit of the Precious Body in it. My whole family does this every week. -
ARCHIVED Stacked Crock Pot Enchiladas
TrillumHunter replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Corn tortillas are pretty simple--masa, oil and water is all that's needed to make them. Corn masa is actually a really powerful thickener! I would say they just need less time in the crockpot than you would think. Everything is already cooked so you are just looking for the flavors to blend. -
ARCHIVED Belly Butto Issues
TrillumHunter replied to Sesheta's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I second that recommendation! -
ARCHIVED Shabtai Gourmet Now Shipping Cakes And Cookies
TrillumHunter replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We just got our delivery and my goodness, the ring tings are yummy!!! They are soft and moist and just good. I can't wait to try the other things we bought! -
I don't think you are overreacting. What would have happened if you had said, in a calm and pleasant voice, "No, I can't eat anything there. I'll go over to the mall and get something and we can meet up again when we are done." No blaming or finger pointing but each one taking care of their own needs. Now, either they would chose pizza over your company...

ARCHIVED High Fructose Corn Syrup - Gluten Free But . . . .
TrillumHunter replied to home-based-mom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So sad and strange! I saw the commercial where the mom is pouring RED drink out of a jug. "It's okay in moderation." Moderation my you-know-what! Read some labels and that stuff is in EVERYTHING. I wonder how much HFCS the "average" consumer eats in a year? Answering my own ? Sources say anywhere between 40-100 lbs a year is consumed. Yikes! -
ARCHIVED Worth The Splurge.
TrillumHunter replied to sickchick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Alton Brown has a broiler technique that is really terrific. You should be able to find it on the food tv site. Eggs are my splurge. I buy them from a local woman and with five people eating them, it is crazy. But they are so amazingly good and flavorful. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Gift Basket
TrillumHunter replied to buffettbride's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Good idea! I think putting mainstream products in there will get extra attention. People will be surprised by the things we can eat. Maybe say, "Celiac for a Day!" -
What's going wrong? Are you using masa? It's a special kind of cornmeal that is gluten free. I think papusas are easier and similar in flavor. No corn shucks to fool with but they aren't steamed.

ARCHIVED Dropping Blood Pressure
TrillumHunter replied to hawaiimama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The low bp wouldn't be a concern if you had always had low bp. It's the change that is concerning. That and the orthostatic HTN. Get your DH to do the readings for you. Lie down, sit up and stand up each time taking your pressure. Don't take the cuff off and wait about a minute or so between each reading. That will give the dr an idea of what is going... -
ARCHIVED Dropping Blood Pressure
TrillumHunter replied to hawaiimama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hematocrit and hemaglobin I've been where you are recently as far as blood pressure issues go. I've battled iron and b12 anemia for years. This last time my serum iron was down to nine, I think, but when I was actually fainting it was down to four. That's why I said this week you should have it checked. Get them to draw a CBC (complete blood count... -
ARCHIVED Dropping Blood Pressure
TrillumHunter replied to hawaiimama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is something that needs attention. It may be something unrelated to celiac. You should see someone soon, this week would be a good idea. If I had to guess I would say you're anemic but I don't have your H/H in front of me. -
ARCHIVED Drug Emporium Has Gluten Free Items
TrillumHunter replied to mlstuff's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My MIL found them in West Virginia as well. I think they're in places with a Healthy Life market inside. She said the prices seemed cheaper than things I had bought. None of them where I live. -
Just a tip-- If you have things that aren't a favorite or is close to going out of date, try to use it in a new way. Stale cookies make a good "graham cracker" type crust. Bread and crackers can be dried out turned into crumbs for meatloaf or coatings. Sometimes if we get things we don't really love I make a trail mix out it. Say you have a granola...

ARCHIVED Kuzu Root Starch?
TrillumHunter replied to RDR's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can send you a truckload if you want to try to dry it yourself. It is RAMPANT in this region. Some say you can even hear it growing.... -
ARCHIVED How Did You Feel After Diagnosis?
TrillumHunter replied to Kitt1027's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Relieved and sane. I thought I had MS which is a more difficult diagnosis for me to imagine. Sane because, after a long time and lots of tests, there really was something wrong with me and it wasn't all in my head. I have to add thankful now as well because my own children will never have to go through what I did. -
ARCHIVED Bob's Redmill Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal
TrillumHunter replied to ohsotired's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh my gosh, this would be like the Coco-Malt of my youth! I am so trying that! -
ARCHIVED Bob's Redmill Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal
TrillumHunter replied to ohsotired's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You can reheat it. Put some hot water in it first to thin it and then heat to desired temp. It will take some vigorous stirring to get the lumps out but it does reheat. My son loves this stuff. he calls it gruel. -
ARCHIVED Cooking To Impress
TrillumHunter replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow, all this sounds so good! I'll add one. How about pot roast? The cut of meat is cheap and it is easy to prepare for you. Get a good looking chuck roast, season well with garlic, salt and pepper. Toss in lots of root veggies and onions and red wine and put it in to roast. You won't have to fool with it last minute except to thicken the juices with... -
ARCHIVED Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
TrillumHunter replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for the responses. We opted to start antibiotics. I have probiotics for her as well. We had to leave our pediatrician to get the titer done as he refused and didn't think it necessary so that was upsetting. We should have the results Friday. -
