ARCHIVED Am I Asking Too Much Of My Boyfriend?
TrillumHunter replied to Eli2003's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It would help if you could share how he's not being supportive before we all crucify him. Part of it may be the learning curve we and the people who love us have to go through for awhile. This isn't directed at you Renee, but I have to respectfully disagree with about the 100% thing. I'm looking forward to 20 years next month and there have been plenty... -
ARCHIVED Can Hypothyroid Make You Starving?
TrillumHunter replied to Wolicki's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Being anemic makes me eat all the time. I think I was trying to get more energy. I feel tired even when I first get up in the morning. I could absorb iron at first, but then I developed gastritis and I can't anymore. The gastritis is healed, but my dr says I may never be able to absorb enough iron. He's young, so I would hope this wouldn't be true... -
ARCHIVED St Patricks Day Dining
TrillumHunter replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! So what is a loin of bacon? Is that like a pork loin in the US? I will be making the Irish soda bread! Many thanks it all looks delicious! -
ARCHIVED Accuracy Of Biopsy
TrillumHunter replied to StephanieL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you've read a bit about it. The reason the biopsy isn't so great is because damage can be spotty if it is recent. If the dr only takes two samples, which is not unheard of, he's LIKELY to miss it. Ask the dr to explain the process to you. Ask how many samples he will take. Things can look totally normal by eye. The samples need microscopic... -
ARCHIVED Stopped Breastfeeding- Hair Is Falling Out!
TrillumHunter replied to kprince's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think you can still lose hair after a year, especially if you haven't gotten your period back yet. Your hormones aren't functioning fully yet and won't for a bit. It can take awhile after pregnancy and nursing for almost a year. Does your family think you are losing hair? I'm not asking because I don't believe you, only sometimes I personally need... -

This is a great story! Thanks for sharing with everyone. -
ARCHIVED I Cannot Believe It!
TrillumHunter replied to proud-armywife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm with boysmom as far as your kids go. We have a gluten-free house as well with improvement in "issues" all the kids had previously. I hope and pray each day that by avoiding gluten, the kids can avoid the OTHER autoimmune issues related to celiac. I feel like if I didn't do this and they had fertility issues or Lupus or whatever, it would be my fault... -
ARCHIVED Some People Are Cruel
TrillumHunter replied to canutillomom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry this happened. You've gotten lots of advice on what to do, but only you know what is best. Take care of yourself until you feel better. It's sucks, but some people are nasty. She does realize that she is at increased risk? Maybe that's why she's so eager to prove it's not really a problem for you. Take care of you!! -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten Free/caffine Free Hot Drinks
TrillumHunter replied to Brien's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like apple cider and lemonade hot. Have you dropped just black/green teas? Like the previous poster, I drink mint teas. It's just dried mint in hot water. I also like nettle tea, which is caffeine free. You can find lots of tasty herbs that are caffeine free to make a hot drink. -
ARCHIVED Reddybread Pita And Tortillas
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I ordered some yesterday. I miss pita bread so much. The online cart doesn't work, so I called. This is a super small company. She told me the bread is made on a mixed use equipment. It is soy and flax based. I talked with her a bit on what gluten-free people would be looking for in a product. She was very receptive. She emailed me shortly after... -
ARCHIVED King Arthur gluten-free Muffin Mix
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made the mix by the directions with 6 T butter, 3 eggs and 3/4 c milk. I added 1 1/2 c frozen blueberries. They are nice and fluffy. They have a good texture. They taste like nutmeg. I can't taste much else. Maybe they would be better with nuts or pumpkin, but with blueberries the nutmeg is too much. I'm a fan of the nutmeg. I grate it whole... -
So, I had a minor cold, wound up with an ear infection, now the fluid won't clear and I've started this dose pack. The next step is a tube placement. I had lots of ear infections before I was diagnosed supposedly because of Epstien-Barr virus. When I finally had my tonsils out, they stopped. I haven't gotten any relief yet, but my ARMS are killing...

That was my first thought as well--someone hit it trying to reply. I just voted you up one. What did that do? I think the administrator would put a stop to anyone picking at someone. The mods are good about keeping things in check on here. I hope this doesn't bother you too much!

ARCHIVED Birthday Cake!
TrillumHunter replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry, I'm keeping four EXTRA kids this week! I did use a Betty Crocker cake mix. It was good, and it only makes one layer. You need a cookie sheet that has a rim on it. Liberally spray with Pam. Lay down a sheet of parchment and liberally spray this, too. Don't skip this part! Pour your prepared cake mix into the pan and spread to the edges. ... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake!
TrillumHunter replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh no, I meant a homemade gluten-free Ding-Dong. It's easy, you make a one layer cake mix in a sheet pan. You roll it up while warm in a kitchen towel. When it's cool, gently open it and spread with whipped cream or fluffy frosting. Roll it up and glaze with chocolate. It's pretty easy and SPECTACULAR! Even my gluten lovin' FIL said it was great. ... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cake!
TrillumHunter replied to G-freegal12's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How about a giant Ding Dong? I made one of those for my b-day and it traveled fantastically because of the chocolate glaze. -
ARCHIVED Fried Foods Contamination?
TrillumHunter replied to vintagegyrl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Sorry, but yes. Foods fried in a common fryer are a no-no. Feel better! -
ARCHIVED Baby Finger Foods
TrillumHunter replied to nmlove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is mostly about practicing the pincer grasp at this time, right? It isn't so much about nutrition as you'll still be feeding her most of the time. It also takes them a long time to do this which will allow you to eat a whole meal without hurrying. I would think any powder on the foods might cause a textural issue, not to mention a gummy mess on... -
ARCHIVED Brown Rice Syrup & Tocopherols
TrillumHunter replied to fancee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"Natural Vitamin E (Mixed Tocopherols [soy] Added To Maintain Freshness)." Vitamin E can be made from wheat sometimes, but this vitamin E comes from soy. That's why it's written there in brackets like that. Brown rice syrup is gluten-free generally. You will ALWAYS have to read the label. Both these cereals are fine. It gets easier. Your... -
ARCHIVED Reverse-Engineering Udi's Bread
TrillumHunter replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yeah, I know. I used to pay that before I was gluten-free and used so many. I paid about $15 for 2 pounds. If you have a cake decorating store near you, you might find it in bulk there. -
ARCHIVED Reverse-Engineering Udi's Bread
TrillumHunter replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I buy mine in bulk from an online bodybuilding store. It's ridiculously cheap. I'm down with a bad cold and ear infections, so no baking for me. -
ARCHIVED King Arthur Flour Launches Premium Gluten-Free Baking Mixes
TrillumHunter replied to jlr's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I emailed them today to tell them how great this news was to me. I shopped with quite a bit pre-gluten-free. They sent me an email saying to check back as they are building a gluten-free section on their website. Should be interesting. I also bought the chocolate cake, brown rice flour, muffin mix, and brownie mix. I'll report back. -
ARCHIVED Aack! Puppy Opened Spay Incision....
TrillumHunter posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
She was spayed Monday. She was doing fine, but not doing well with the whole "stay calm, no playing" rule. She's five months old. I took her in, they stapled it and put a belly band on her. We were sent home we the instructions to keep her crated except for bathroom breaks for 7 to 10 days. REALLY? I don't think I can do this. We homeschool and there... -
ARCHIVED Differences In Yeast
TrillumHunter replied to DMarie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Active yeast has to be bloomed in water. It comes in the small packets. Instant, which is also rapid rise, bread machine, quick rise, and so on, doesn't have to be bloomed and can be added in with your dry ingredients. It also rises faster. I don't know if you belong to Sam's Club, but their price on yeast is hard to beat. It's two 1 lb bags...
