  1. BTW, the pizza crust turned out great! It reminded me of the homemade pizza crust a woman used to make for fundraisers at the church I grew up in. Non-Celiac Hubby said it was really great too.
  2. Have I mentioned that my Mom was 73 when she was diagnosed?
  3. Have you tried the GFP Favorite Sandwich bread? I thought it actually tasted like regular white bread! The first thing I did with it was a soft white bread, Miracle Whip and bologna sandwich. It didn't take a bread machine, just a mixer, loaf pan and oven. Have you tried Fast and Fresh products? I haven't tried their white bread, but their burger...
  4. I'd only tell your Mom how classy she will look by comparison. Good quiet taste trumps flash any day. At my brother's wedding, the bride's sister showed up in some floaty lavendar chiffon and rhinestone affair that much fancier than the bride's dress (a tasteful, traditional wedding dress). It looked like something you'd see at the Oscars! I don't think...
  5. I agree. There has been much discussion on this board about the value of official diagnosis (pro and con) but I think a clear diagnosis has much value. Some of it seems to depend on how well you think of the average doc. For some people, a clear diagnosis just isn't possible in the standard medical world. They don't have a clear, testable Celiac reaction...
  6. Note for future reference that full size bars are okay, it's just the mini and bite size that have that issue. Don't lay a finger on his Butterfinger! :-) BTW, Mi-Del Animal Crackers are really good and they make good bannna pudding cookies too. You may find these links handy... Gluten Free Candy & Easter Candy Notes: Please beware of...
  7. I take PB-8 that I get at Whole Foods. I knew about the importance of probiotics before the Celiac diagnosis from back when I was in my 20s and went through 2 years of constant struggle with antibiotics for bladder infections and sinus infections offset by struggles with skin rashes and yeast infections. My doc of that time laughed at the idea of taking...
  8. I must confess to curiosity about one thing. When women describe these sensations, most docs seem to write it off to either PMS, peri-menopause or menopause depending on the woman's age, at least on the first visit. Even my woman doc said the bit about peri-menopause and then gave me a little lecture about how women take care of everyone but themselves...
  9. My local Celiac group gave us a warning before Halloween last year that mini-candy bars are not considered safe because, according to the manufacturer, they don't stop the equipment to clean between flavors. So crunch bars with malted rice and safe bars like plain chocolate have a certain amount of cross contamination. Also, how long have your guys...
  10. Pamela's Wheat Free tasted great and didn't have to be heated to taste good. It didn't have to be refrigerated to stay good either. It sat on our counter for 3 days and tasted almost as good on day 3 as it did on day 1. It's the first bread I've seen my hubby (the non-Celiac) keep think of ways to eat it. GFP Favorite Sandwich Bread does need to be...
  11. Okay, I've got a pizza crust from this mix rising and I have a question for all of you that have a perforated pizza pan -- ever have a problem with gluten-free batter coming through the holes? Trying to press out the crust created a bunch of little dough pills under the pan. Being the curious person that I am, I scraped them off and left them in that...
  12. Actually, I can think of a few people I would enjoy serving that cornbread to.
  13. Biopsy is considered the "Gold Standard" because if it's positive, you definitely have Celiac. I'm a biopsy diagnosed Celiac and am not allergic to wheat. In fact I had no GI symptoms at the time of diagnosis. They thought I had colon cancer because I was so anemic (due to the damage to my small intestine). My sister is highly allergic to wheat and...
  14. You remind me of something I told my hubby a long time ago during an Enjoli (sp?)perfume commercial. Remember the one with the woman in a slinky dress belting out "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan and never let you forget you're a man" while swinging her hips and a skillet around? I told my hubby "Pick 2 out of 3"
  15. I see net references saying it's gluten-free but nothing on the product website so I'd call the producer of Yoplait Key Lime yogurt EnviroKidz has lots of crispy rice products and I can get many at my local grocer Open Original Shared Link (look at the bottom for their gluten-free list) Plain Fritos Scoops are my favorite, Plain Tostitos are good too If she...
  16. Couldn't have said it better myself! My sister nicknamed me "Canary" because I was the first one diagnosed (canary in the mine) and spent a year with it being "my problem" until my Mom was diagnosed and then my sis started having so many problems with healing from a surgery until she went gluten-free.
  17. Tinkyada does make a large shell pasta, Brown Rice Grand Shells. Open Original Shared Link But from what I see on their website, you have to buy 12 pkgs. at a time if you buy from them. It does have a long shelf life, but that's more than I can picture using in the next 5 years. If I see single packages anywhere, I'll snap one up and PM you.
  18. I'm not sure how you get Crohn's. Since it was listed with the "Disorders Related to Celiac" group on this website, I assumed it was one of the many things you can develop if you continue to irritate your immune system. Celiac.com remains one of my key info sources. I'm still not sure of the answer, but I found the following articles interesting:
  19. I've been planning on experimenting with Bob's Red Mill Hearty Whole Grain Bread Mix and subbing Redbridge for the water. If I get around to it this weekend, I'll post the results. I miss beer bread too!
  20. That's what keeps me on the gluten-free straight and narrow. The possibility of developing something else other than Celiac. I've already been diagnosed terminally ill once in my life and beat it (now think it was undiagnosed Celiac). At this time, gluten-free is the only limit I have, a diet can be so much more limited. I don't want to push my luck and...
  21. gluten-free marshmallows -- Whole Foods sells vanilla and strawberry marshmallows in plastic tubs that are gluten-free. Mini-buns -- Chebe bread wouldn't be dry if left out on a buffet and can be formed into small buns. Let me know if you need more info on prep. (fat free cream cheese makes a white bread type roll, parmesan makes a deli cheese type...
  22. My hubby had to prove to me that Celiac was sensitive enough that if he kissed me after eating raisin bran without brushing his teeth first, I would have tummy troubles that day. I didn't believe him until he charted it out (without telling me) and then showed me the results. I'm talking a morning peck goodbye, not a major lip lock. Could you have gotten...
  23. Hey, I have a package of those that I haven't made yet. I'll have to make some for the office. Someone posted here about chopping Reeses cups up and using them with icing on brownies, so I tried just throwing the chopped reeses cups on the brownies when they came out hot from the oven. They melted great and WOW! I had to snitch hubby a small piece...
  24. God love that man! I've made corn bread crumbs myself, but you can't blame the pork chop on gluten. What did you do to make the cornbread orange? I might want to use that on somebody I don't like someday.
  25. Done and forwarded to the other Celiacs I know.
