ARCHIVED Need Advice On Which Vit B12 To Get
Karen B. replied to SUZ42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me, time. To get off work and to the doc's takes a chunk out of my day. -
ARCHIVED Is Their A List Of gluten-free Foods At Fastfood Restaurants?
Karen B. replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
That's handy! Thanks! -
Please do any Celiacs following after you a favor and call back and talk to the manager. If it had been a peanut allergy they were serving instead of a gluten intolerence, someone could be dead. The manager needs to know that someone didn't follow protocol, especially since Outback is known as a Celiac friendly place! Hope you feel better soon. It really...

ARCHIVED Anybody Ever Made A Gluten Free, Egg Free Birthday Cake?
Karen B. replied to NewGFMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Namaste Vanilla Cake made into a pineapple upside down cake? I used to be facinated by pineapple upside down cakes when I was a kid. And kids love the fruit that's been baked in brown sugar. Or maybe their chocolate cake. It's awesome! Their mixes have no wheat, gluten, corn, soy, potato, dairy, casein or nuts. Can a powdered egg substitute be used... -
Have you tried the CHEETOS Natural White Cheddar Puffs? Open Original Shared Link They're good! (I can't have MSG either)

ARCHIVED Going To The Ortho Doc In Afternoon
Karen B. replied to little d's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
OMG, we're about to grow gills with all the rain in Texas. And yes, rainy weather does make a broken bone hurt more. I broke my wrist 2 years ago and a bone in my foot about 15 years ago so I have a built in weather detector. I used to think it was just a geezer thing, but it's true (that it hurts, not that I'm a geezer :-) It's important for women... -
ARCHIVED Folic Acid And Vitamin B-12
Karen B. replied to Karen B.'s topic in Publications & Publicity
Since Folic Acid and B vitamins nearly did me in (prior to the Celiac diagnosis) I thought this would be good info. The hardest thing for me to realize when I was diagnosed was how I could be deficient in these nutrients when I took supplements but if you can't absorb them, it does no good. Thankfully, it didn't take me long to heal up after I went gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hot Dog Buns
Karen B. replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know Chebe makes a great burger bun but for some reason, I hadn't thought about it for a hot dog bun. Do you use the red package (original) or the yellow package (all purpose)? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Good Friend's Wedding Menu...help?
Karen B. replied to Meemsy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to agree with this statement. I usually find a way to work the word Celiac in the conversation, just in case they know about it. But everyone knows how dangerous a peanut allergy is to ignore, so the term allergy usually conveys the same info in a framework they'll understand. Having a guest get sick at a wedding they catered would definitely be... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Ashamed Or Excited?
Karen B. replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A dress like that for only $200 is quite a steal! It's gorgeous! Twenty years from now, your husband will still remember how lovely you looked in that dress and I think your co-worker is jealous. If you donate the other 2 dresses to a charity, don't forget to get a receipt. Getting married will change your tax status and you might be able to use the... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Ashamed Or Excited?
Karen B. replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had the wedding of my dreams -- me, him, the minister and no one else. But I've never liked ceremony and always swore that was what I wanted for a wedding. It gave me an easy out to anyone that complained about not being invited "My own mother wasn't there, you should complain?" :-) That was my choice, my dream wedding. If your choice is the dress... -
I'd definitely get to a primary care doc ASAP. When you start passing out, you are in danger of other injuries as you've found out. My hubby (a non-Celiac) started experiencing dizzy spells and passing out and, for him, the answer was as simple as eating more salt (low blood pressure). But until we found that answer, he had fallen in the street and sustained...

ARCHIVED Going To The Ortho Doc In Afternoon
Karen B. replied to little d's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The only advice I can offer is to be extra careful about gluten because you can't afford any time of not absorbing your calcium if you have a bone healing. You are getting 1500-2000 mg of Calcium + magnesium and vitamin D, yes? -
ARCHIVED Help To Advocate For Our 2 1/2 Year Old
Karen B. replied to Nenaslove's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doc will make his/her decision based on symptoms, so I'd go over the list of Celiac symptoms with the doc and make sure you mention any family members that may have been diagnosed. What are the symptoms of celiac disease? https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-56107266779.67 What are the symptoms of Celiac Disease? Open Original Shared... -
I'd call my doc tomorrow morning, I'm not sure I wouldn't be checking with an ER tonight. I know I wouldn't wait for the appointment on the 28th. I'm 48 and a co-worker that's about my age started experiencing "mini-strokes" due to stress. There are other things that can also remind us that while 50 may be the new 30, sometimes it's still 50. If...

Your local Celiac group can help make this much easier. They can tell you where to local sources are to get the goodies you miss, what gluten-free bakeries may be in your area (and if they can be trusted to be gluten-free) and they can offer suggestions for problems you may encounter in this transition. List of Local Celiac Disease Support Groups/Chapters...

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant And Happy
Karen B. replied to Goody 2 shoes's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's a good next move, a local group can make it a lot easier. They'll know where all the good sources are for different gluten-free products in the area. List of Local Celiac Disease Support Groups/Chapters https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-49107235539.b0 -
ARCHIVED Mini Test From A Newbie
Karen B. replied to kalikohl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might find this interesting: Celiac Disease Prevalence High in Patients with Crohn's Disease https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-39107055035.eb Sounds to me like your body had a day without fighting a gluten reaction and it's letting you know it likes gluten-free. Did you also notice there was no dairy in the foods you mentioned? Gluten... -
ARCHIVED Namaste "blondies" Mix
Karen B. replied to delawaregirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for posting the results. They'll be in my basket next time I go to Whole Foods. -
I'd bet there's either wheat in a dry rub or soy sauce in a marinade or au jus dip.

I always keep Healthy Choice soup (the gluten-free ones), Dinty Moore and Tasty Bite dishes around for those times when I just wasn't able to plan. Would you call that planning for not being able to plan? :-) I just know that those times are going to happen so I'd better have something on hand for when it does.

Since this topic has come up several times recently, when I saw this article, I thought it might be good info. ---------------------------------

ARCHIVED Fast And Fresh Dairy-free Minute Chocolate Cake Mix
Karen B. replied to Karen B.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really lucked out on this last order. They sent me some items I hadn't ordered and left out some items I had ordered. When I emailed them, they said to keep the extras and they sent me the missing items. How great is that! :-) -
I hear you! I was thrilled when they opened a location in Houston, before that I had to wait for a trip to Dallas.

The referral to a local support group may be your doctor's admission that they would know more about the actual implementation of a gluten-free diet. My doc and gastro doc both said as much to me. I found The Gluten Free Bible by Jax Peters Lowell to be very helpful (although any product list of safe and unsafe products is out of date as soon as it's published...
