  1. Some people eat at McDonalds with no problem. I personally don't, I can't risk the contamination because there's a higher chance of contamination in fast food restaurants. For the US Open Original Shared Link
  2. It doesn't have to be like that! I'm not a teenager but I currently go to university so I understand your situation. Like angellove839 said, you could buy gluten-free bread and make sandwiches. Rice cakes and peanut butter are good, and if you have access to a microvave you are all set! You could bring Thai Kitchen stuff, left overs from dinner, Amy's gluten...
  3. WOW You would starve if you had to eliminate all of that! I would start with a few things that are on the high list. I'm assuming you are gluten free already but try and elminate things that are easy to avoid first like nuts, asparagus, pumpkin, radish, squash, ect and see how you feel. I certainly don't eat things like that on a regular basis.
  4. They are now selling a ton of Rosie's stuff at the Nature's harvest on PEI. They have bread, pizza, cabbage rolls, shepard's pie, cookies, ect. I think they are trying to replace some Sterk's stuff with Rosie's stuff.
  5. Sometimes people can have celiac with no symtoms or very few symptoms like fatigue and anemia.
  6. Thanks Scotia for the info!
  7. - from the article Interesting... but I think I'd rather take my changes with celiac disease! 1:2 chance of getting cancer (or something like that) vs. 1:150 of getting celiac Good luck with quitting
  8. Maybe the Fritos are contaminated if so many have problems with them. I don't eat them, so i don't know how they make me feel
  9. I think it is always a good idea to research both sides of the story. Here are some good sites: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link It may be a good idea to get glutamine levels checked, and if they are low, then talk to your doctor about taking supplements.
  10. I've also noticed nausea after going gluten-free. Before I was gluten-free, I had a very "strong" stomach and hardley ever felt nauseated or gagged. After I went gluten-free, I found that I feel nauseated a lot more than I used to and I gag sometimes when I feel sick or "glutened"... and I'm not sure why. For me the nausea sometimes goes a way after I eat...
  11. A lot of celiacs are lactose intolerant. I developed a major intolerance to dairy once I got celiac.
  12. Good to know! Thanks!
  13. I used to freeze almost everything back in my first few months! Bananna bread and muffins freeze and thaw good, I have recipes if you don't have any. Casseroles should freeze nicely. This one can be frozen: Rice and Vegetable Casserole 3/4 cup rice uncooked 1/2 teasponn salt 1 cup mushrooms (quartered) 1 cup carrots (cut in half slices) one...
  14. I use this site to determine if my meds are gluten-free. Open Original Shared Link For example, if you were given tylenol 1, Click on T under Complete Pharmaceutical Monographs, look for tylenol 1, click on it, and read the ingredients usually at the bottom under Availability And Storage: "Each capsule-shaped, blue tablet, engraved "ESTAC" one...
  15. I use Jamieson vitamins becasue they will clearly indicate gluten free on the front of the label... if it is gluten-free of course Open Original Shared Link
  16. It depends on the person and the severity of damage, the two extremes for feeling better are just a few weeks to 1-2 years.
  17. Welcome! I think it is very possible that you may have celiac or even a wheat or gluten sensitivity. It is definately worth looking into, especially since the doctors have already looked in the large intestine and found nothing. Celiac disease damages the small intestine and it need to be biopsied in order to see the damage. However, if you want a blood...
  18. I am sorry you feel so sick I understand your situation. I had a ton of symptoms (too many to list) when I was diagnosed. Within 6 months after the diet about half of them were gone, but it took almost 1 year for the rest of my symptoms to clear up. Now, almost 1 year 4 months into the diet I am feeling a lot better than I did last year at this time, not...
  19. I've never been on a cruise before, but I am planning to go on one! I plan to find the cruise I want to go on and then contact the company to see what they can do for me. Travel agents should be good at helping too
  20. In my case, my grandmother found out after I got diagnosed. She got tested because I was diagnosed. She knew celiac was genetic. Now to get others in the family to also get tested... that could be a challenge
  21. There are a lot of gluten free BBQ sauces! I use the ones by Kraft because they will clearly put gluten in the ingredients if it is there. If you want BBQ lays go with LAY’S® STAX® BBQ Flavored Potato Crisps. They are apparently produced on separate "gluten free" lines and therefore should not be contaminated. Most of their other chips are produced on ...
  22. Maybe we could all get free hoodies with our user name on the back, and the celiac.com icon on the front! (the one with a C crossing out the wheat) I like that idea
  23. Thanks! That's too bad he should understand that you just want to help your son. Of course you don't want him to have celiac disease. You just want to help him get better. I don't understand how some of these people become doctors. They are smart but some of them have no people skills and they don't think outside the box. "Well if my outdated...
  24. Wow! Good work Jen! That's some great customer service
