  2. Don't worry I don't think it's anything bad, they are just "medical/scientific terms" for alterations in the intestinal wall due to gluten damage in celiacs. Open Original Shared Link I believe that people with celiac who are eating gluten or just starting the diet have a lot of those crypts and intraepithelial lymphocytes. They should go away or there...
  3. http://www.kaypahoito.fi/xmedia/ima/ima00175.webp It may be DH. This picture looks like your pictures. Have you been diagnosed with celiac?
  4. In celiacs, the body sees gluten as toxic. When gluten is ingested, the body produces antibodies such as IGA that detect gliadin, which is a protein found in gluten. Blood tests such as the tissue transglutamase test will test to see if there is a surplus of IGA in the blood. If there are higher than normal antibodies detected, than celiac disease is usually...
  5. The North American culture is centered around wheat. It's in everything. I am very interested in studies that look at the incidence of disease in our culture and other cultures. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that wheat originated in the middle eastern region about 9.000 years ago... I'm wondering if maybe celiac disease developed at the same...
  6. I am also gluten and dairy free and I don't feel deprived at all. Actually, if I was told I could have dairy again, I probably wouldn't eat it, it just isn't appetizing to me anymore. Some ideas: For a milk replacement try So Good soy milk (it is gluten free), I love it and you can get different flavours. You can use this milk on gluten-free cereal, in...
  7. Sounds like you had a great time! Lucky you! and you never even got sick. It's nice to know that there are people out there willing to take the time to help. Not everyone is like that.
  8. I do not have a gluten-free kitchen and I have to be VERY careful or else I could get contamination. There are literally crumbs everywhere! If you can convince the rest of the family not to keep gluten in the house then that would be great, although not everyone is willing If there is gluten in the house just make sure you look at everything for crumbs...
  9. yeah I've noticed that some people make a few posts and then disappear and a lot of people have joined and have not posted at all. But that is an insane amount of people!
  10. It is really hard to tell sometimes. if you have fever it is probably a virus.
  11. Envelopes can contain gluten. I just get someone else to do it. The only time I ever really need to lick an envelope is at the bank, but some of the banks around here are getting lick free envelopes for depositing money. So much better

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

ianm... That is the funniest thing I've heard all day!
  13. I get horrible pain like that too. The pain is right where my stomach is, probably where the stomach meets the intestine. I'm guessing the pain comes from the antibodies attacking the intestinal wall. My pain gets really intense... to the point that I litterally can't move, then it goes away for a bit... and just when I think it's gone for good, the pain...
  14. at least with celiac you won't have to be on any nasty meds. I know someone with chron's and the med's sound worse than the disease I just recently read that celiac can lead to intestinal hemorraging, which could be the cause of blood.
  15. yes I love french fries and putting gluten free fries in gluten oil just ruins them
  16. Mine was high, like 20 or 30 something, I don't really remember the exact number though. I believe the normal in my lab was 7.
  17. Thai Kitchen has some good noodles. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  18. In my opninion there is no way to know for sure what goes on in the kitchen, unless you go and look. I personally would not allow my food to be cooked on a grill that has had gluten on it. There is no way to tell if all the gluten has been burned off, unless you did a chemical analysis. When I have BBQ's I cook my food on the grill in tin foil to prevent...
  19. Do any of their chips contain gluten? If so, maybe there was cross-contamination on the lines. Also, if the pastachio nuts were roasted there may be wheat on them, or maybe they were contaminated. Hope you feel better soon.
  20. Reactions will vary for each person. But the length of the reaction may depend on the amount he had. Some people react for a few weeks. The last time I believe I was glutened, I was feeling the effects for almost 2 weeks. However I think I was contaminated for a few days so that may be why I took so long to get better.
  21. Last I heard Orville popcorn and Yoplait yogurt were safe, just check ingredients and call the company if you are unsure about somehting.
  22. Maybe we could have a generic "New to celiac" heading (just like the others but above board/forum Technical help) at the very top, then people who are new to celiac will see it first and will be able to look and see if their questions have already been answered.
  23. Welcome! The tissue transglutamase blood test is highly specific for celiac disease, therefore if it is elevated than you would most likely have celiac. Open Original Shared Link However, if you want biopsies of the small intestine, you have to be consuming gluten or you may get a false negative test result. If you indeed have celiac...
  24. Not unless you have a specific allergy to fish or shellfish. If you aren't allergic to fish or shellfish than you should be fine, just be careful of sauces that may contain gluten and of course breading.
