  1. Kassandra, I am thinking that if it isn't a herx, you'd have the same symptoms you have had for awhile, but then after 5-7 days see improvement. It depends on the organism(s) that you have in the gut. You might try a google search with the name of your antibiotic and lyme or one of the lyme organisms and see what comes up. Also if you have the name of...
  2. Tom, I'm going to be very close to Andrea too... when I am in the USA. Andrea, I am hoping we can meet face to face too!
  3. Kassandra, I think Carla finds the lemon water helps with herxes. Lots of water to flush toxins. Charcoal, try to take 2 hours away from other meds or food if you can as charcoal absorbs lots of things. There is something else you can use but I cant remember the name--bentonite??? Its a liquid. Also, for me, the e-coffee is the biggest help but you might...
  4. I want to join in the huge appreciation for all of you here. Especially thanks to Andrea who invited me to this thread and encouraged me to jump in. At first I felt like kind of an outsider when you all knew each other, but gradually I am feeling more connected and deeply appreciative of this support group. I was quite surprised last week to have my...
  5. Laura, glad to hear from you, and glad you are getting better! Welcome Yolo and I hope you join us and keep posting. We had an awesome Thanksgiving dinner, and the gluten-free stuffing was great, as well as our gluten-free rolls and cherry/apple pie. My homemade marshmellows melted on top of the sweet potatos were great; they tended to melt more than...
  6. Kassandra, Your symptoms since starting the abx sound REALLY like a herx; if you knew what organism she was treating you could research. Not all bacteria/organisms cause herx reactions. Borrelia is a spirochete that does, syphilis is also a spirochete and also causes herxes. Probably you'll just have to weather this treatment and see what happens...
  7. Everyone, I'd really like to make some fudge for the holidays. I can't get agave syrup here, and can't use milk or soy. I can get "corn" syrup, it is a light gold syrup and made from cane sugar. That's what I used for my marshmellows which are good btw. I bought some Pacific brand hazelnut rice milk which I found in Beijing on my last trip there, or...
  8. Kassandra, this is good news. At least something is showing up. If you do have lyme as well, the abx could be causing a herx. What are your symptoms? What is the organism that the doctor is treating with the abx?? Be sure to take binders to bind up the toxins. Even setting your alarm in the middle of the night and taking some charcoal. Let's see...
  9. I am sorry about the frustrations with doctors...and wish that you both will feel better soon. Try to keep yourselves focused on yourselves as the decision makers ultimately in charge of your own bodies, with the doctor as a consultant only. It is okay to hear what they say, and it is okay to disagree. I think if you get too tied into knots over their...
  10. We're cooking our dinner right now....Happy T to all of you and Rinne, sorry, we noted the Canadian T day but I didn't post. My hubby was born in Canada, and all extended family is there except parents and sister.
  11. Question: how long it taking from order to arrival of the Humaworm? Thinking about when I should try to get some.
  12. Donna, I looked for my lyme test results but don't have them here, I guess. I may have them in my file box in the USA. My test was positive for borrelia, babesia, and erlichicea.
  13. Yes, I'd also welcome you to the OMG thread, just jump in, as it is way too long to read it all! If you haven't had improvement and keep getting worse, this is a real concern. How were you diagnosed? It's not clear from your post what symptoms that you have that are getting worse. Did you have any positive dietary response when you went off those...
  14. Agreed. And your rash could be biopsied perhaps for DH.
  15. I agree with these posters, also Enterolab can give you an malabsorption index. I think it is ideal to have the "golden standard" diagnosis, but many of us have the same issues you do. Maybe there will someday be a good test that doesn't need us to "kill" ourselves eating gluten. But meantime dietary response and return of symptoms with a challenge are...
  16. It comes out crunchy along the sides. You can also tailor the amount of liquid to have a drier or moister texture.
  17. I am sensitive to cleaners too, but much better than I used to be.
  18. This does sound like it could be celiac. I would for sure have the biopsy done. Look on this forum and read about the skin form of celiac, because if I remember right, the biopsy has to be done in a certain stage of the blisters. If that is positive, then you are celiac. This is a lifelong lifestyle change to remove all gluten from your life. In...
  19. Well, guys...I am not going to order the humaworm from afar...so I did a little research and decided to try garlic. Here's hoping everyone can stand being around me What I am doing is crushing a clove and then chopping it, and just swallowing it with water like pills, morning and evening. I am not going to chew this!!!! My doctor had suggested...
  20. Well, Julie, I still keep my fingers in it! I'd do more with her but my kitchen is so very tiny it is almost impossible for us to both be in there. Also we get together with a young family who are friends and she is doing some of the cooking too. So, my contribution is to try to make marshmellows today from scratch! We'll put them on the sweet potatoes...
  21. Yep I am very spoiled, and not only that, I'll have a big learning curve when I get to the US and have to do it all myself! Mia, good to hear things are going well and you are making progress. Glad you checked in! Isn't Genove the new name for Great Smokies...I seem to remember there was a name change somewhere there.
  22. This sounds difficult. Could she post here and tell us more about what is happening? Probably the first question is how is she doing with her gluten free diet? Has she found and removed all the hidden sources of gluten? Has she tried to eliminate milk as well? Some have had to go to very restricted diets because the GI tract cannot handle much...
  23. This sounds really awful, I am sorry to hear of this pain you are experiencing. Glad some really bad things have been ruled out via the CT though. I am also a therapist, and while I agree with the other poster, I also am hugely respectful of how physical problems cause psychological ones. My eyes have been even more opened on this forum, with posts such...
  24. I don't have a success story yet as this is my first T-day since gluten-free as well. I have made gluten-free bread and am drying it out as suggested above. My favorite recipe is from the Rival crock pot cookbook. Many years ago as a young married I asked a wonderful cook what recipe she used for stuffing. She told me this recipe, and she then adds chopped...
  25. Here's what I use, and we think it is excellent! Gluten Free Pie Crust Pastry Ingredients 50g/2oz White Rice Flour 50g/2oz Tapioca Flour 75g/3oz Potato Starch 1-1/2 tbsp Cornstarch (original recipe calls for "corn flour") 1 teasp Xanthan Gum 1 Tbsp Sugar 75g/3oz Butter (chilled and cubed) (I use Spectrum shortening which is soy-free, milk...
