  1. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I get to not slave over a hot stove because I have a lady who cooks for me, who is so very very sharp she has learned all of my holiday cooking recipes. She had never cooked anything western before working for me, but has picked it up really fast. She has now taken all the gluten-free cooking in stride as well and makes everything...
  2. Kassandra, I guess what is puzzling is that you can say the same thing about this GI, what if it doesn't pan out as helpful? How can your mom decide not to go to the LLMD based on that possibility but see other docs and not consider that question? I agree with Carla about what you need to do, and am not impressed with your GI, or the "tug of war" between...
  3. I was originally on the creme version which he preferred for me, but it wasn't stable long enough for me to take with me. I think he didn't want me to do IV DMPS on my own over here. I think he was also concerned with overwhelming my system that tends to be sensitive. Yes, all of this needs to be reviewed and perhaps a different approach when I get to...
  4. Hi Lori. You might want to check out the lyme disease thread, as symptoms can be quite similar. Also, yes it can take a long time it seems. I am over 6 months and still very much up and down. It is nice when it it a cut and dried answer, but it isn't always. Soy definitely causes abdominal symptoms for me, I am better GFCFSF.
  5. There seems to be a range of sensitivity, but it also seems to increase after going gluten-free for many. After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I think it really can be an issue. Any item that has porous surfaces that cannot be totally cleaned can hide tiny amounts of gluten. Some people react strongly to this. I think they become our proof! So...
  6. On this thread a couple of people have referred to intolerances of food combos....so that could be an issue if all the individual ingredients have been fine.
  7. Well, celiac disease can be asymptomatic, so that isn't a complete rule out. Also some have symptoms that clear that they had not paid attention to. I agree, if you want more testing of a different type, try Enterolab. The other option if you are still eating gluten, is to ask for a biopsy. Some people have negative blood tests but positive biopsy....
  8. There was a recent thread on the forum where a number of parents mentioned OCD in young children and resolution with the diet. You might do a search here.
  9. It's not clear what the IGG and IGA were for...that is a general antibody label. Allergic markers, I think. You have an elevated glucose which is not significant if you had recently eaten, but is significant if it was a fasting blood sugar.
  10. I think that many of us long for straight-forward answers. Those who get a clear celiac diagnosis via biopsy have no doubts. Biopsy, positive blood results plus clear dietary response are unmistakable. The problem is, many of us don't fit in that picture for one reason or another. Without testing, clear dietary response and resolution of symptoms is...
  11. Rachel, I'm doing oral DMPS which is compounded for me. I was doing 1 pill every two weeks, but after talking to my doc in July, starting doing 1 pill on 2 consecutive days, every two weeks. It seems to be going fine. I don't notice symptoms much when I take it. The only time I have had IV DMPS is for the little orange jug....but I am going to ask my...
  12. Yes, I think checking to make sure you have eliminated all sources of gluten. Then being patient for awhile! Then trying dairy free which makes a difference for so very many on this board. After that, I'd do a trial of soy free. Hopefully, you will feel better soon!
  13. Could be lactose intolerant, in which case you might find some forms of milk you can tolerate. Or could be casein intolerant, in which case you'll have to avoid all milk. If lactose intolerant, this may resolve eventually.
  14. I'd just go totally dairy free. If it works and you feel much better, you could try to figure out if you are just lactose intolerant.
  15. Thanks for all of your posting. I recently had an inadvertant glutening, a swallow of barley tea which I mistook for regular tea. I had low grade fever and was miserable, but it was weird, it was on day 4, 8 and 9 after the glutening that I had the fever. I was really wondering if this could be from the glutening, so I read your posts with interest.
  16. I was not too symptomatic when I discovered the problem via Enterolab. I got worse after going Gluten-free Casein-free, and it lasted quite awhile because it seemed to trigger my lyme disease which had been quiescent. After more than 6 months, I am still having up and downs. Here's my sense of what happened to me: the celiac had caused several intestinal...
  17. That you are already feeling better since starting the diet is a very good sign. I'd try to tighten up the "as best I can" by reading posts on this forum and asking questions. It is best to be as strict as possible. Also, it just takes a lot of patience. If you are celiac, realize that you have damage that will take awhile to restore. 1-2 years for...
  18. I second the casein and the soy as possible culprits. If you don't want to just blindly experiment, you could try the Enterolab testing. Also there are food allergy tests out there as well, could help you find some things to try. Soy has been shown in research to causing villi blunting, as I have read here. Some great responses here, I have appreciated...
  19. So do you have any symptoms? Yes, these results show gluten sensitivity, and DQ2 is a clear celiac gene. All but DQ4 are related to some degree to celiac and or gluten sensitivity, but DQ2 is the most clearly celiac gene. Just understand that the endoscopy (did you have a biopsy too?) can be false negative. The intestine often is affected in patches...
  20. Julie, I am not sure yet what will happen with my enzymes. I go here to the local hospital, where they have a place for "physicals." Its kind of cool, I just walk in and tell them I want such and such a lab test. My liver enzymes were just over $2. I get the results the same afternoon. (Thyroid the next day) Then I have to scan and send to my doc....
  21. Thanks, everyone for the best wishes about my pie today---just to clarify--its one pie. I'm going to mix apple and blueberry. I've done that before with cherry and it is wonderful. I just like a thicker, fuller filling. Wow, I am really impressed Carla with the improvement after the humaworm. That's definitely on my list to do--especially because I...
  22. Hello everyone! Quick update: Thanks so much for the birthday best wishes. I couldn't safely celebrate in Beijing, but I have a plan! Tomorrow we are going to make blueberry and apple pie! I got back late last night from my trip and didn't have any internet access while I was gone. Then today all day I couldn't get into the forum. I was...
  23. Someone here I think mentioned Chinese herbs. There is a doctor in New York (Dr. Chang or Zhang??) who treats lyme with Chinese herbs. Used to have a website. Generally, the issue with TCM is that the secrets of healing tended to be kept by the practitioner, so there wasn't so much of a shared knowledge base. That is better now than before, however...
  24. Carla, I know what you mean. When I feel ill, its like "here we go again." I get discouraged and forget that overall I have had better days than I used to. I chomp at the bit to be better and stable all the time. I am hoping I won't herx so bad this week, took my first dose of flagyl a little while ago. Last week it hit within two hours. Your trip...
  25. Sure. Just slightly elevated. SGPT 48 (Range 0-46 U/L) SGOT 44 (Range 0-34 U/L) This was last month's. I had a repeat this morning, and will post after I get the results.
