ARCHIVED Never Ending Hunger.... What Do I Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to phil1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This effect is pretty common and it will pass after a bit. Until then do make sure you are eating as cleanly as possible with as much whole unprocessed food as you can. Some find Pepto Bismal liquid helps with the stomach pain. Do drop dairy for a bit and since soy can also be a problem for us you may want to limit the amount of soy you are taking in also... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream
ravenwoodglass replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you live in an area that has a Wegmans their Wegmans label rice milk is safe. Pacific brand also makes some good gluten free milks but I don't know if they make a rice milk. -

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. You show a great deal of strength dealing with all this. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. -
ARCHIVED Positive Coeliac Bloods
ravenwoodglass replied to fairydust81's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The diet and lifestyle do take some getting used to but it is so worth it to feel so much better. Since you are waiting until after your biopsy is done to start the diet read as much here as you can to prep yourself for the biopsy day as you can go gluten free the day the procedure is done. You don't need to wait for the results as with positive bloods you... -
My acupuncturist wanted me to do this also before I was diagnosed. I passed. I agree with the previous poster I do not think they benefit us.

ARCHIVED I Am A Widow At Age 42
ravenwoodglass replied to okieinalaska's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm so sorry for your families loss. It is good that you have many freinds and family for support and it still must be very difficult. You are in my thoughts and prayers. -
ARCHIVED Chick Beer
ravenwoodglass replied to princessnoel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
No I didn't miss it. Some of us react to very slight amounts of gluten and some of us do react to distilled gluten. Malted beverages are not something we should consume no matter how 'filtered' they are. -
ARCHIVED Not Sure If It's Gluten Or Something Else
ravenwoodglass replied to Mummyto3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is pretty common for there to be more than one celiac in a family. There really isn't anything safe for us at KFC whether they are higher in gluten than fryed chicken you would make at home I don't know. It does sound like you both reacted strongly to it. After the biopsies are done you can go ahead and get on the diet strictly and hopefully you will both... -
Hopefully you have checked all the meds and supplements you are taking to be sure they are gluten free. What is your diet typically like? If you haven't tried going with a pretty much whole foods unprocessed diet for a while you might want to do so. Those of us that have neuro problems from celiac, like the folks who were mistakenly diagnosed with MS when...

ARCHIVED My Mother Case
ravenwoodglass replied to eazyeazy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it is related to the celiac the inflammation will resolve after a bit on the diet. If it doesn't the diet will not effect testing for anything other than celiac. With the biopsy results the diet is needed. It does seem hard at first but with the kitchen the big things are getting a new toaster, replacing scratched nonstick cookware, strainers and wooden... -
ARCHIVED Interpret Results Please
ravenwoodglass replied to organicmama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may want to eliminate all at first and after a couple of months try consumeing the items you had a low positive for one at a time for a couple weeks to see if you react. You definately need to do the gluten-free diet though and it would be a good idea to suggest that your family be screened for celiac. Just because your blood tests were negative doesn... -
ARCHIVED Too Early To Give Up?
ravenwoodglass replied to mattwilliams85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have noticed that your BMs have been more regular and consistant and that you are always hungry. You are showing progress on the diet and should stick with it. The constant hunger is because your intestines are healing and are better able to now absorb nutrients and that is what is triggering the constant hunger. The first month many of us also go through... -

ARCHIVED Upper Endoscopy Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to lcolebank's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would call the office and ask if you had biopsies done for celiac at all. You may have gotten an incomplete report and the celiac biopsies may be on another page or....you doctor may not have done them for some reason. Now you should try the diet very strictly for at least a couple of months and see if it helps. With the high rates of false negatives... -
ARCHIVED And I Was Feeling So Good!
ravenwoodglass replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hopefully you will be feeling better soon. For now eat soothing stuff like Cream of Buckwheat or toast and keep things on the bland side. If your schedule allows sleep as much as you can and hang in there. It will pass but how long it takes to pass can be different for different people. When I go somewhere without a kitchenette I usually will bring a hot... -
ARCHIVED My Mother Case
ravenwoodglass replied to eazyeazy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There may be other things going on also but with the Marsh 3 that does mean she is celiac even though the blood tests were negative. The inflammation could be caused by the celiac or something else in addition to the celiac could be going on but being gluten free is not going to effect the outcome of testing for anything other than celiac. Both of you need... -
ARCHIVED And I Was Feeling So Good!
ravenwoodglass replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did you bring your own toaster and cooking stuff with you? I usually stay in a hotel room with a kitchenette but bring a couple of my own pots and pans and toaster along with disposable silverware and a couple of my own spoons etc for stirring stuff. I never touch the stuff that is already there for me. -

I can only answer for myself as others symptoms may differ but with withdrawl I got very moody and irritable but no stomach issues. When I get glutened I get depressed for a day but then get other physical symptoms like bone and joint pain, stomach pain and D along with brain fog and some balance issues.

ARCHIVED And I Was Feeling So Good!
ravenwoodglass replied to mamabear272's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope you are feeling better really soon. It can be hard when your away from home but you just need to be prepared. If your going to another city try putting the city and gluten free dining in a search. I was really shocked how much came up when I did that for my own home town recently. That way you will know what places have the best chance of feeding you... -
ARCHIVED How Does Everyone Else Deal With Work And Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to Diana76's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It can be really hard, and at times impossible to work with symptoms. Are you still having a lot of issues with D? If it is something that is frequent then you may be getting cross contaminated somewhere. Most of us benefit from dropping dairy for a bit when we first go gluten free. Many can add it back in after the intestines heal a bit. So if you haven... -
People can be real idiots. Sorry this person was such a jerk to you.

ARCHIVED Need Help Reading Results Please
ravenwoodglass replied to N100A's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With positive blood work you need the diet no matter what the test results are from the biopsy. You can start the diet the day they do the biopsy you don't have to wait for the results. I hope you're feeling better soon. -
Great to hear that you are feeling better and have a really good doctor. They can be hard to find. Thanks for letting folks who live near you how well things have gone.
