ARCHIVED Blood In Stools And Coeliacs
ravenwoodglass replied to Bex1391's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whole foods are simply foods that have not been processed or single ingredient foods. Fresh meats, fish, chicken, eggs, fresh or single ingredient frozen fruits and veggies, potatoes, plain and wild rice are examples of whole foods. Your tummy may tolerate cooked veggies and fruits the easiest at first and if you haven't been eating a lot of fruits and... -

Glad to hear you are going to go gluten free anyway. It may take some time to see improvement. Some of us just never show up on blood work for some reason. If I had kept listening to the doctors who said 'celiac tests are negative so just get more fiber (wheat) and keep taking your tackle box full of meds' I would be dead by now. Also if your doctor uses... -
If you go to the FAQ section and look up their gluten-free list the Lime ones are under this disclaimer: "Please note however, some of the products listed below may be manufactured on the same lines as products that contain gluten. Although our lines are washed between batches, Frito-Lay has not tested these products for gluten content and the ingredients...

Anything that gets on your hands can end up in your mouth or contacting another mucous membrane which can cause the antibody reaction. -
ARCHIVED Is Contamination Unlikely?
ravenwoodglass replied to milkmommy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you gotten condiments, butter etc for just your own use and replaced the stuff you need to keep gluten free like your own dedicated toaster, strainers etc? There is quite a bit of stuff we shouldn't 'share' with gluten eaters. -

I agree strongly with this. Chances are it is hemmies but you really want to find out for sure. -
ARCHIVED Post Positive Blood Test Asked To Go Back On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to navigator's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you have a great plan. Sometimes the things that seem like the worst things that happen to us turn out to be the best. Your healing time will give you the chance to consider where you want to go when you are stronger and able to reenter the workforce. I wish you the best. -

ravenwoodglass replied to MrsNewman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You may want to inquire if any of us take that particular drug without problems. Chances are if there are no gluten ingredients it is going to be fine. -
ARCHIVED Should I Still Call It Celiac Anyway?
ravenwoodglass replied to Harpgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't think I agree with you that "people with Celiac Disease need to be monitored for other conditions, due to the absorption of nutrients, while people who are gluten intolerant and/or sensitive don't have the same risks." Although my doctors have diagnosed me as celiac I am a sero-negative celiac so many doctors would give me a 'gluten intolerant' label... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Stress?
ravenwoodglass replied to WinterSong's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Migraines for me are a sign I have been glutened but that may not be the case for you. Not being able to sleep is also for me a sign. Do make sure that you are for sure gluten free. If you haven't already check all meds and supplements and do all you can to avoid CC in the home and out. Go with whole foods as much as you can as that can be helpful. If your... -
ARCHIVED Got Glutoned Or Food Poisoned
ravenwoodglass replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take a while to feel better. If you can be at home and let your body rid itself of the gluten asap by avoiding the immodium. You want the gluten out of your body and taking the immodium could lengthen the amount of time till the reaction is over. If the D continues for over a week do visit your doctor for stool testing to make sure you don't have... -
ARCHIVED Post Positive Blood Test Asked To Go Back On Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to navigator's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So sorry you are going through this at work. If you really liked the job do think about doing what your doctor is advising. You have an illness that is the reason for you frequent absences and it does take some time to heal. If you need to fight to keep that job then it might be worth the fight. At the least perhaps you will qualify for unemployment or some... -
ARCHIVED Emotional And Physical Damage
ravenwoodglass replied to Living Large's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes it can take a long time to get over the emotional damage that we are left with from being ill for so long and being discounted by doctors and family. There are a lot of us who have struggled like you for years and years being told we were lazy when we barely had the energy to breathe let alone get every thing done that most folks do with ease. Many... -
I take Biotin daily to help with my hair and skin. When I get severely glutened I lose a lot of hair and it does take some time to grow back. I don't take probiotics but do eat live culture yogurt, Yoplait only, or eat saurkraut for its probiotic value.

ARCHIVED Testing After Gluten Free?
ravenwoodglass replied to WhenDee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You would be a false negative if you have been off gluten. You could do a gluten challenge eating at least 3 to 4 slices of bread for 3 months and then be tested but you could still have a false negative. Be aware that the false negative rate for children is even higher than for adults so do a strict trial for your child after all testing is done if you suspect... -
ARCHIVED Ataxia- Balance Disturbance
ravenwoodglass replied to AVR1962's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Along with being very strict with the diet I found sublingual B12 seemed to be helpful. A referral to a physical therapist can also be helpful in retraining your brain and body to improve your balance. It does sometimes take a long time to heal so hang in there. -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia Or Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to HAPPY DOG SUZ's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the board. It is amazing how good we can feel once our problems with gluten are figured out. My family says I am like a different person and I think your husband will be very pleased with his painfree wife when he comes home. His service is greatly appretiated and you have 'the toughest job' in the military so thank you also. If you have any... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Alopecia?
ravenwoodglass replied to confused mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also have hair loss when glutened and had lost a lot before I was diagnosed. I also lose hair if I injest soy. Sometimes hair loss will occur when the body is severely stressed, that is not uncommon. I would talk to her doctor about it and about any other issues that have worsened since she has gone back on gluten. False negatives in both blood and biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Sometimes Just Isn't Good Enough....
ravenwoodglass replied to strezzedout1979's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My first suggestion is going to be to drop the Fit for a couple of weeks and see if that makes a difference. Get a produce brush and just wash under running water. If your worried about pesticide residues just buy organic. My second suggestion is going to be to go with whole foods that are unprocessed for a month or two and see if that helps. At the least... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to saiamarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You sure do sound like you are one of us. If they have done a celiac panel do go gluten free when the biopsy is done, you don't need to wait on the results. There is up to a 20 to 30 percent chance of a false negative on testing so do give the diet a good strict try when your testing is finished. Hopefully you will be feeling better soon. -
ARCHIVED Embarrassing Question
ravenwoodglass replied to New-To-This's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It does sound like you have an issue with gluten. If someone doesn't have problems they wouldn't get symptoms when they consume it after having been gluten free. You could do the 3 month gluten challenge and then test but your body is really giving you the answer and you would still have up to a 30% chance of a false negative. As far as gene testing goes... -

My reaction to this med was awful. I only took two doses of it and then called my doctor. After much discussion we decided to try just an antianxiety med. This was the first sensible thing I doctor had ever agreed to. I kept telling them that I wasn't depressed but they always insisted on giving me pills that were a combo of antianxiety and antidepressive...
