  1. My tats tend to raise up with inflammation or as another poster said if I get a great deal of sun on them. It is usually just the black outline that raises. They were raised a lot before I was diagnosed but that rarely happens now. If it is a red area that raises you may have an allergy to the red ink. I worked as a receptionist in a shop at one time and...
  2. Dangerous Grains is a good one and I like Bette Hagmans cook book although I find I rarely use it now. There are some good flour mixes around, I like Tom Sawyer for stuff like scalloped potatoes and Pamela's Baking Mix for stuff like muffins etc. So with the mixes a lot of regular recipes can easily be converted to gluten free without having to buy lots of...
  3. Glad your getting tested. Don't go gluten free until all the testing you choose to do is finished then as soon as testing is done go ahead and get gluten free. Since there are fairly high rates of false negatives a dietary trial is needed no matter what the results. It is not uncommon at all to find that there is more than one celiac in the family once one...
  4. Welcome. You don't need to wait on those results to start the diet. You had a positive blood test so you need the diet no matter what the endoscopic test shows. False negatives are common with both blood and biopsy but not false positives. Read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to.
  5. Have any gluten eaters used the jelly or pnut butter? You can get CC'd from crumbs from gluten eaters 'double dipping'. I have never seen a jelly that wasn't gluten free but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Also did the gluten-free cereal you ate have oats? There are some of us, myself included that do not tolerate oats in any form even certified gluten...
  6. I like 65 to 70 during the day and 50's at night. I hate having to plug in my AC but may have to tonight as it was in the 90's and very humid here today.
  7. You can actually have celiac and not have either of those 2 genes. Those are just the most common. Yes your son got one DQ8 from you and one from his Dad. It would be a good idea for both of you and any siblings to also get tested for celiac. If anyone is symptomatic but comes up negative on testing do give the diet a good strict try after the testing is...
  8. Celiac disease requires a trigger. Perhaps for some the trigger is candida or the infection that the person was given the antibiotics for. In women childbirth is a frequent trigger. A trigger can be either an illness, severe injury or even severe stress. So the cause of celiac is something that can be quite varied. It is a good idea when taking antibiotics...
  9. You could keep a supply of nonperishable stuff like gluten-free pretzels, Lara Bars, etc on hand for those times. One thing we really have to do is be prepared. It is a pain but it is the best way to keep from getting stuck hungrey with nothing safe to eat.
  10. A couple companies that will clearly label gluten ingredients in toiletries are Dove, Suave and Garneir. I use all Garneir products. You should look for wheat germ oil, oats, wheat protein for example. No washing the wooden utensils may not be enough. You also should replace any strainers that have been used for gluten foods and scratched nonstick pans....
  11. It does sound like you were glutened. Many times the reaction is delayed. The D for me starts about 3 days after I get glutened. Some places aren't aware that making safe gluten-free meals is about much more than just using gluten free foods. They may have CC issues.
  12. You might want to do a new thread to ask about the aloe. I don't know much about that. While your multi may have a lot of B12 while your digestive system is still healing you won't be able to absorb it from a swallowed pill. The sublingual goes right into the bloodstream from the mucous membranes in your mouth. Do read all ingredients on multis because some...
  13. It may just be that since you are so new to the diet that you are still healing and it may take a while before that effect goes away. That breakfast was almost all protein. Have you tried something like fruit with maybe a hardboiled egg and a slice of toast, made in your new dedicated toaster? That might be a little lighter to digest and help with the tired...
  14. You could be dealing with a fructose intolerance. There have been some recent threads on that. If you do a board search they should be easy to find. It is not unusual for us to have other intolerances. The most common are soy and dairy but some have problems with fructose or nightshades. If you are getting CC'd at the restaurants it could be keeping you...
  15. What are you having for breakfast?
  16. For some it might be. If you are also going casien free I personally would do it now and hopefully the withdrawl from the casien, if you have any, will be over in the same time frame. I just woke up one morning and the withdrawl was over and the world looked like a much brighter place. The hardest thing for me was finding a butter replacement that didn...
  17. I think most are trough withdrawl within 2 to 4 weeks. Just be very careful with your diet as getting some accidental gluten may prolong the withdrawl.
  18. Call your doctor and tell them about your reaction to adding gluten back in. If you were only gluten free for 3 days they may be able to go ahead and draw the blood now. There can be false negatives with blood tests and biopsy so do keep that in mind. Glad you got such quick results on your short trial of the diet and do keep it up after your done with testing...
  19. Give it some more time. Also if you haven't already do check all your toiletries for gluten ingredients, shampoos, conditioners, lotions etc. Have you gotten a toaster just for your gluten free bread? Gotten a new strainer for gluten-free pasta, replaced or gotten new wooden utensils for just your use? You also need to be aware that when baking with gluten...
  20. Yes it does sound like you are likely going through withdrawl. It should lift soon. Eat as much whole unprocessed food as you can for bit and be careful of cross contamination. Do let the allergist know that you are celiac. Celiac isn't an allergy but some of us do have both celiac and wheat allergies. The diet can take some getting used to and once the...
  21. You'll still be able to have pasta and bread. There are quite a few different kinds and you will find ones that you like. Having a Mom who has already gone through the changes will help a great deal. Hopefully you will be feeling much better soon.
  22. It sounds like your doctor isn't really knowledgable about celiac. Since you have a rash that may be DH you could go to a derm who is knowledgeable about DH and ask for a biopsy letting the doctor know you came back positive on the celiac panel. They need to biopsy beside the rash not the rash itself and they need to be looking for DH. If you are going...
  23. Glad they were able to get you in sooner. The day of the biopsy you can go ahead and get on the diet. You don't need to wait on the results. If you had a positive blood test you need the diet no matter what the biopsy results are. I also hope you get a clear answer but do keep in mind that damage can be patchy and a damaged place can be missed. I do hope...
  24. Welcome to the board. Yes do keep eating gluten until your testing is done. If you are having the biopsy keep on gluten until the day they do it. After your blood tests and biopsy are done you can start of a trial of the diet. You don't need to wait for the biopsy results. Since false negatives rates are pretty high stay on the diet strictly for a while to...
  25. It took a very long time for a lot of my neuro issues to go away although I could walk unaided after 6 months I still had a lot of neuro issues for a long time after that. For myself I found I was supersensitive to CC issues so did have to avoid a lot of processed stuff and we made the house gluten free to help avoid those issues to the best of our ability...
