ARCHIVED Warning For Those Sexually Active
ravenwoodglass replied to ruubato skies's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is still much to learn about celiac and nothing is written in stone. I checked out the article and interestingly the article referred folks by a link to the AGA and when looking at the list of not allowed items we find... Open Original Shared Link Foods to avoid include: -
ARCHIVED N.a.e.t. ( Allergy Clearing)
ravenwoodglass replied to AgainstTheGrainIdaho's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just keep in mind that allergies and celiac/gluten intolerance are different. Are you a diagnosed celiac and now gluten free? If you are then these treatments are not likely to help. If you have true allergic, histamine, reactions then it may help. -
ARCHIVED 2 1/2 Months Gluten Free
ravenwoodglass replied to ImWithStupid's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you are healing up and your challenge did show how much your body doesn't want gluten. Keep up with the diet and hope you are feeling great soon. It can take awhile for the body to recover so do be patient and strict with the diet. It might be a good idea to have vitamin and mineral levels done to see if there is anything you need to supplement... -
ARCHIVED Test Result Interpretation
ravenwoodglass replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes it could. You mention in your sig going back on gluten for testing so if that testing is now done you may want to go back to the diet. If you are also having a scope keep eating gluten until that is done. -
ARCHIVED Elevated Liver Enzymes
ravenwoodglass replied to DanieGurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes celiac can effect the liver enzymes. Don't know why but there are many that have that finding prediagnosis. For most the enzymes go back to normal after following the diet for a bit. -
ARCHIVED One Year gluten-free; Gi Issues Starting All Over Again
ravenwoodglass replied to quincy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea my doctor was really amazed also. With the first scope they were throughout my entire large intestine but the scope I had done a couple of years after diagnosis showed only a few in the normal area on the left. Do make sure to have the lab check and make sure that anything they give you for the CT is gluten-free. The liquid you drink will have a thin... -
ARCHIVED Warning For Those Sexually Active
ravenwoodglass replied to ruubato skies's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to respectfully disagree with this as do the medical references I have found. Here are a couple of links. Unsafe Gluten-Free Food List (Unsafe Ingredients) from the homepage here: /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ Hydrolyzed Wheat Gluten Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Pg-Propyl Silanetriol... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to hsmomof6's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The NP is not well educated on celiac. This: "Gliadin antibody IgA 61 reference range >17 positive" is a strong positive result for celiac. If you are not having the endo done do get on the diet strictly. If you are having an endo keep eating gluten and then the day the test is done go strictly gluten free. With positive blood work you need the diet regardless... -
ARCHIVED N.a.e.t. ( Allergy Clearing)
ravenwoodglass replied to AgainstTheGrainIdaho's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac and gluten intolerance are not allergies they are autoimmune disorders and allergy treatments would not help as they are totally different reactions. Any doctor that tells you allergy treatments of any kind will 'cure' gluten intolerance or celiac is a quack. -
ARCHIVED One Year gluten-free; Gi Issues Starting All Over Again
ravenwoodglass replied to quincy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is quite possible it was a glutening. Your doctor could tell you with a colonoscopy if you have diverticulitis. That usually presents with a high fever and many have to be hospitalized with it as the symptoms are severe. He gave you some pretty heavy antibiotics so do be sure to get some probiotics in you if you tolerate them. I have both celiac and had... -
ARCHIVED Losing Friends Because Of My Food Restrictions
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
(((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))) It is an awful feeling to lose 'freinds' and family because of stuff that is out of your control. I know how much it hurts first hand. It must be terrifying for you to have developed such a serious allergy and I hope coping with it gets easier in time. -
ARCHIVED Charcot-Leyden Crystals?
ravenwoodglass replied to melgag21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your issues could definately be celiac related. No matter what the test results are you should do a good strict trial of the diet after you are done testing. The changes you have that were found in the biopsy are consistent with celiac that has not yet progressed to full villi destruction. -
ARCHIVED Negative Test---How Long Until We Test Again?
ravenwoodglass replied to Staceyshoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In countries that routinely screen for celiac they test around age 4 and again at puberty. Of course if he develops any issues, even with learning and mood not just GI related he should also be tested then. -
ARCHIVED What Is Going On? Can You Help?
ravenwoodglass replied to proud-armywife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Has your doctor checked you for other issues like thyroid problems, as one example. -
Likely lots. Most are not even aware that if depressed patients are not responding to antidepressants they should be tested for celiac. Instead they pile more drugs on.

ARCHIVED Charcot-Leyden Crystals?
ravenwoodglass replied to melgag21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What did they mean by 'rare villi'? If that means that most villi were blunted or absent that is consistent with celiac as are the other findings on the scope. Since you have had the scope if you have already had blood tests go ahead and give the diet a good strict try. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Only Sometimes?
ravenwoodglass replied to DanieGurl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did for years before the D became a daily and then a day and night occurance. I don't think it is unusual. Since I had kids I thought I was just picking up stomach bugs or had a sensitive stomach. Doctors just figured I had IBS and lactose intolerance. I was told for years to just get more fiber and avoid milk. After it became a daily happening doctors... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance
ravenwoodglass replied to Debbie B in MD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since your doing other dairy items with no issues I would suspect CC from your parents home if they aren't gluten free. Of course that is assuming the ice cream itself is gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Weather Anxiety Improving
ravenwoodglass replied to zimmer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear the anxiety is lessening for you. This spring has been horrible for storms with so much damage. I do hope this tornado season passes soon and that you stay safe. -
ARCHIVED Alpro Desserts/ Vanillin
ravenwoodglass replied to jaywalker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not familiar with the product but I would wonder about the natural flavors. With chocolate there may be malt in the flavoring and that would not need to be declared and may be in a small enough amount to still test below the allowed ppm level. Unfortunately that allowed level may still be too much gluten for some of us. At least you know not to ever... -
ARCHIVED New To This - Some Questions
ravenwoodglass replied to Melissa72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes your boys should be tested and so should any other first degree relatives, mother, father, brothers and sisters. Your ped can do the test. Celiac can present in many different ways. It can impact learning and moods as well as the more typical GI issues. It can affect pretty much any organ including the brain so there may be things in your family that... -
ARCHIVED Tired And Irritable
ravenwoodglass replied to Marie1976's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are likely going through withdrawl. It will pass. Are you taking any vitamins? It is usually a good idea. Do make sure any meds or supplements you are taking are gluten free. Read the whole label on supplements as they can have wheat and barley grass and still have a gluten free label. If you can sleep then do so. If you have to be up and doing coffee... -
ARCHIVED Carlson Vitamins?
ravenwoodglass replied to fakename's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you have noticed problems since you started taking them you might want to drop them for a bit and see if the issues resolve. If they do resolve then to be sure you could start them again and see if the problems reoccur. -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to s9421's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
While you tests do appear to be negative false negatives are not uncommon. If you are finished testing you should do a strict trial of the diet to see if it helps. -
Did the derms biopsy the rash itself? If they did they were not looking for DH. DH is checked by using the skin next to the rash and they need to be looking for it. If you are still on a full gluten diet you could go to your GP and tell them you want a complete celiac panel done. Be aware though that false negatives are common. You could just go gluten...
