ARCHIVED Has Anyone Suddenly Lost The Use Of One Side Of Ther Body?
ravenwoodglass replied to Ahbee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I was thought to have MS at one time. I lost use of my right leg to a great extent and had great difficulty with my hand on that side. I had electromylograms that were flat lined in my leg showing no nerve conduction. In my case it was a gradual loss that actually started in childhood. It did resolve for the most part after I was finally diagnosed celiac... -
ARCHIVED New, Husband's Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to chemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had him get a celiac panel at the doctor's? That should always be a first step. As Skylark stated Enterolab does not diagnose. His results are on the low side but if he is having issues have your doctor run a celiac panel. The truest test is the diet though. If someone feels better off gluten there is no reason to eat it. -
ARCHIVED New - Daughter's Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to chemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Keep in mind that sometimes people mean to vote up and hit the wrong button by accident. Once done the person can't undo it. I don't think anyone disagrees that she should see a GI. -
ARCHIVED Need To Re-Gluten My 2Yo For Panel - Please Guide Me
ravenwoodglass replied to Gardening's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would advise for 2 to 3 months. If she shows severe effects from the challenge IMHO it should be stopped. I would contact her GI or ped and have her seen before you start the challenge, tell them of the results you have seen on the gluten-free diet and then contact them quickly if she has severe symptoms when she does the challenge. Do keep in mind that... -
ARCHIVED 4 Weeks Gluten-Free And Not Seeing Improvement
ravenwoodglass replied to ClevelandGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good idea with the dairy. I hope those fries are ones your cooking at home. If not make real sure that the restaurant only cooks frys in the oil and not gluten foods also and that the frys are for sure gluten free. -
ARCHIVED So Confused?
ravenwoodglass replied to justwantrelief's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would encourage you to drop the cheese for a bit. Many of us have a hard time with it until we are well healed. After you heal a bit then add dairy back in and see if it is an issue. -
ARCHIVED New - Daughter's Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to chemom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do take her in for a celiac panel and if you choose to a biopsy. There are false negative rates that are pretty high for both so after you are done with all testing you choose to do make sure you give the diet a good strict try. Celiac is strongly genetic so if one member has it confirmed then all family members should be tested whether they have symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Teeth Hurt
ravenwoodglass replied to Wenmin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last I checked it wasn't but that was awhile ago. I know this sounds 'out there' but I have problems with tooth pain when I accidentally injest barley. Is there anything that you may be consuming may have barley in the form of malt or 'natural flavors'? -
ARCHIVED 4 Weeks Gluten-Free And Not Seeing Improvement
ravenwoodglass replied to ClevelandGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can go with eggs and bacon, a sandwich, leftover gluten-free food from the night before, etc. Breakfast doesn't have to be a breakfast type food. Just make sure you are getting some protein and perhaps carbs and a bit of fruit. If you must have a 'breakfast' Bakery on Main makes some good granolas but I would read the label and avoid the ones with oats... -
ARCHIVED Recently Dx - A Ton Of Neurological Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to justChris's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had neuro issues since childhood but they got really bad after my last child was born. I didn't have much gut wise that I considered an issue just occasional constipation and a constantly grumbling tummy. That did change though and as things progressed both neuro and gut wise I don't know how many times I heard 'there's nothing wrong with you here have... -
ARCHIVED Old Orange Juice Thread
ravenwoodglass replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It isn't usually wheat that is a problem with stuff like juice, IMHO it is more often barley. That unfortunately can be under 'natural flavors'. That said most juices are safe but I always call about the ones with natural flavors or just avoid them. What we really need is accurate and complete labels but unfortunately if something is used as a 'flavoring... -
I would just stick with the vitamins your giving him and if you think he needs a probiotic some yogurt would be IMHO the way to go rather than a pill.

I don't know about the others but name brand Xanax is NOT gluten free. The generic alprazolam made by Sandoz is, at least the last time I filled my script. There are other companies that make it also. The best way to check is to call the company although my doctor called them himself while I was sitting in the office to check on the Xanax most don't and...

ARCHIVED Baking Business
ravenwoodglass replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would pick a kitchen that doesn't do it's own baking. Not a lot of restaurants do baking as it is time intensive and they have to have someone that basically does just that and the equipment is very expensive. A good restaurant will have a very clean kitchen at the end of the day. Health dept regs require it. There are a few that are lazy about the clean... -
ARCHIVED I Know..i Know..sorry To Ask, But
ravenwoodglass replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have used their lavender facial cleansing milk and their moisturizer in the jar was what I used before I switched to the Garneir. Their lavender eye serum was also nice and I still use that. -
I agree vitamins might not be a bad idea but I would stay away from immune boosters. As the other poster mentioned our immune systems are in 'hyperdrive' to such an extent that they are even attacking our own bodies. You may find he doesn't really catch most of the stuff going around anyway, I haven't even had a cold since I was diagnosed even when working...

ARCHIVED Does Every Crumb Matter?
ravenwoodglass replied to tina a's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes it would matter if you are sharing a toaster. Get a dedicated one for your toast. My hot flashes are a thing of the past since I went gluten free, unless I get glutened. My OB/GYN even said I might get my period back also since I went through menopause really early but that didn't happen. -
ARCHIVED Just Need A Place To Vent Where You All Understand....
ravenwoodglass replied to MommyStina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am thinking about putting in a box with some silica jel. I don't know if it will work but since I have seen old shadow box type things with cake in them I figure I will give it a try. I already have some lavender dryed and will see if I can get out of the reception with a floral centerpiece to add to it. She is having a cake like the old fashioned ones... -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another post reminded me of this. I have recently gone back to college. I started with a math class. I got glutened right before the final. The D was over by Monday so I went to class anyway. The woman in the seat next to me noticed I was not my usual answer every question self and my mood was frankly awful. After break we were talking as the instructor was... -
ARCHIVED Just Need A Place To Vent Where You All Understand....
ravenwoodglass replied to MommyStina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My DD is getting married soon (she is chosing to ignore her celiac diagnosis and there is nothing I can do about it) and that will be the option I will likely do since I will have to drive 6 hours the next day to get home. My DD is very fearful that even though the caterer says they can make me a safe meal that it really won't be. I'll play it by ear but... -
ARCHIVED So Confused?
ravenwoodglass replied to justwantrelief's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is likely you got glutened IMHO. What are you eating? Hopefully it is mostly unprocessed foods as those are safer, especially when we are first diagnosed. You also should eliminate dairy for a bit until you heal. The 'flu' type feeling and depression are common with withdrawl but the D is IMHO more an indication of accidental gluten. We do have some ups... -
ARCHIVED Anti-Gliadin Iga Of 42
ravenwoodglass replied to sue1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was under the impression that it was more likely to have a false negative rate, was that what you meant? I thought when someone had a positive anti-gliadin and atrophy that was pretty conclusive as far as celiac is concerned. -
ARCHIVED I Know..i Know..sorry To Ask, But
ravenwoodglass replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I absolutely love Garneir Nutritioneste Wrinkle Defense Night Cream, I use it both day and night. It says you will see a difference in the first use, thought that was hype but in my case I really did. -
ARCHIVED I Wonder?
ravenwoodglass replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's too bad. It is not surprising though since gluten is quite an addictive substance for some of us. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis = Refractory Sprue
ravenwoodglass replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No grain fed meat is not an issue. Gluten does not transfer into the muscle of the animals.
