ARCHIVED Anti-Gliadin Iga Of 42
ravenwoodglass replied to sue1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you tried the diet and did you get a copy of the endo report? Some doctors won't diagnose celiac unless the villi are totally destroyed and disregard blunting, scalloping and eiosinophils, all of which are indictions of celiac. If you are done with doctors you should give the diet a good strict try. You may be surprised how much resolves. I know I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Memory Loss
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the same sort of issues with numbers. I was in eighth grade before a teacher realized I really did have a problem. I was told I was lazy etc from 5th grade on. I can now add numbers in my head and I almost cryed when I got an A in my Business Math class this summer. Almost all algebra and I never thought I would be able to remember the formulas. It... -
ARCHIVED Have I Been Glutened?! And What To Do!
ravenwoodglass replied to lvpriest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you haven't gotten a new toaster, yep IMHO you got glutened. When your feeling up to it go out and get a new toaster and do take the advice about things like pans and a new cutting board also. -
(((((((((((((((((Hugs)))))))))))))))))))) The advice to take a nice warm shower is a good one. If you have any lavender scented soap, or any other favorite scent, it might make you feel better. Do you have any cream of buckwheat on hand? That's a favorite comfort food of mine. Perhaps some scrambled eggs or some rice noodles broken up in small swallow...

ARCHIVED Milky Way Simply Caramel
ravenwoodglass replied to heatherjane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would check their gluten free list. As far as I know the only Milky Way that is safe is the Dark Milky (I eat a couple a week) but if this is new it may be also. -
ARCHIVED I Wonder?
ravenwoodglass replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Especially with his family history it does sound like he should be on the diet. The rash my be DH, if he has active lesions he could try going to a derm to get a biopsy but IMHO the clear corelation between the rash and gluten injestion with the family history is pretty diagnostic in itself. As to the beer issue, someone posted a while ago that Bud Light... -
ARCHIVED Baking Business
ravenwoodglass replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Are Enterolab Tests Ever Negative?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lori2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, there have been some on the board, in particular folks that are celiac and used Enterolab to test other family members. Do keep in mind that most of the folks that do the testing are having issues so it is not IMHO that the number of positive tests would outnumber the amount of negative ones. Do keep in mind that they do not diagnosed celiac, they simply... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Memory Loss
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I actually remember more from before the age of 5, when I was impaled and my celiac was likley triggered, than I do for the 3 or four years following. I remember trips with my family, visits to my grand and great grandparents, my first pets and what happened to them, places I lived, etc. From the time of 5 until I was in 5th grade I have no memories at all... -
ARCHIVED Hair Loss
ravenwoodglass replied to naiiad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If your hairloss is related to the autoimmune reaction from celiac you simply can't cheat on the diet. Even small amounts will cause the loss to restart. I do have celiac related hairloss and when even small amounts sneak in I go through at least a couple weeks of fall out. Something that helps me is I take Country Life 'Hair and Nails' vitamins and an... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal! Wow... Worse Than Being On Gluten!
ravenwoodglass replied to KimKF's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you deglutened the house and are you taking precautions when you make her food? Make sure that the utensils you are using, like nonstick pans, cutting boards etc. have not been used for gluten foods. I know you said there are a lot of foods she doesn't like, what is she eating? Fresh foods are going to be best. Don't get her any of the prepared precooked... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Memory Loss
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am the same way. I have a lot of 'blank spots' and in the later years before I was finally diagnosed had such serious issues that I couldn't even read any longer. I have ataxia, which causes brain lesions or UBOs, that developed in childhood but was never recognized. I was just thought to be clumsy. I don't know if the lesions had to do with my memory problems... -
ARCHIVED 2Nd Opinion Of My Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to Smarts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Skylark. I really think you should just accept it and get on the diet and heal. They are finding more and more genes associated with celiac every day and gene testing is in it's infancy. Gene tests should never IMHO be used to strictly rule celiac in or out. Get yourself gluten free and you will likely find your 'bipolar' resolves along with... -
ARCHIVED Walmart Great Value Hash Browns
ravenwoodglass replied to ramsfan1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The rule I live by is if I think an item may be causeing an issue I drop it for at least a couple of weeks, see if I feel better, and then if I am still wondering I add it back in for a week and see if I get sick again. -
ARCHIVED Elimination Diet
ravenwoodglass replied to curiousgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
An elimination diet guided by an elderly and very wise allergist was how I was finally diagnosed. He checked me for true allergies first, I actually was allergic to 98 of 99 things I was tested for! He said later that was his clue that I was celiac. He gave me a detailed form to fill out with all the foods I normally ate. He then formulated a starting point... -
If your still having glutening symptoms in addition to the hand problems you may want to try eliminating those things that you think are suspect for a week or two and see if the symptoms resolve. It sounds like your being careful with the diet but sometimes things can be CC'd if they are processed. There was an article recently that someone posted a link...

ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yea really, in my younger and more volatile prediagnosed days I would have backed him up to a wall and lit into him. I did have quite the temper then and little ole 100 lb me could back down even the biggest guy. Noone messed with me and as my ex used to say when my eyes spit fire it was time to walk away, real quick. Now you really have to work to get me... -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Poor kid. Hog tie her to a chair in front of a computer and make her read some info. Seriously though I would get her a few good articles on gluten and sit and read them with her. -
ARCHIVED "But You Can Eat Whole Wheat, Right?"
ravenwoodglass replied to earthtoneNJ's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
New acquaintence "There is no such thing as food allergies, no one has them" Me "I don't have food allergies I have celiac which is autoimmune and there really are lots of folks that have actual allergies" (The only full sentence I actually got out.) N A " Those folks are just eating the wrong foods and your nasty attitude is why you have stomach problems... -
Did you have an injury or surgery to the hand or that arm before this started? I had the wasting happen to a leg after I had surgery on my knee. When I went to have the stiches out the next week I had lost all muscle from where the tourniquet was down. My doctor said it was something like sympathetic dystrophy and I had to have months of PT with ultrasound...

ARCHIVED Want To Cry-So Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to lvpriest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just keep in mind that false negatives are not uncommon. When your done testing give the diet a shot no matter what the results are. -
Use those ice packs like the dentist told ya and your face should be back to it's lovely form soon. I hope you recover quick.

ARCHIVED Other Possible Allergies?
ravenwoodglass replied to curiousgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought for a bit that Ener-G crackers were CC'd or something cause I seemed to react to them. It turned out I was sensitive, both allergy and intolerance, to soy. Check your crackers and see if they might have soy. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get Supremely Dizzy When Going gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to Shalia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One more thought, are you dizzy or are you off balance? Being off balance can be part of the 'gluten experience', I still fall over sideways when I get glutened and have to be always be careful on uneven ground because of the gluten ataxia. If your off balance rather than 'spinning' it may be an indication that your getting gluten somewhere. -
ARCHIVED Want To Cry-So Frustrated!
ravenwoodglass replied to lvpriest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board. After you are done with testing do be sure to give the diet a good strict try. Your body knows the answer.
