Cheese Slicesravenwoodglass replied to Diva1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications You very well may have an issue with lactose, Kraft singles are for sure gluten-free. What else did you eat that day and also look at what you have eaten over the last 3 days to see if gluten sneaked in. Sometimes the gluten reaction can be delayed which can make it hard to figure out what got us. I hope your feeling better soon. I also have to mention...

ARCHIVED Can Celiac Disease Cause Ulcers?ravenwoodglass replied to glutefree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease For my daughter ulcers were her primary symptom and I have had them also so it certainly isn't unusual for us. I used Pepto Bismal for relief from the pain without messing with my normal acid production and for myself and my DD the ulcers were gone soon with the diet. I did have to also stop dairy and soy but I was able to add dairy back in after a couple...

ARCHIVED Travel For A Funeralravenwoodglass replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I am sorry about the loss of your Grandfather. As stated prepare to bring as much as you can with you. If your traveling by car bring a cooler with a few frozen gluten-free dinners you can zap if needed. You might also want to do a search and see if there is a Health Food store nearby so you can give them a call and see what gluten-free stuff they might...

ARCHIVED New Here And Totally Overwhelmedravenwoodglass replied to Rhonda-R's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease I would be as strict as you can at first. Many of us have issues with shampoos and lotions that have gluten ingredients and CC from the manufactoring process or from crumbs and such in our homes and restaurants. Celiac is an autoimmune reaction. Our bodies create antibodies and those antibodies are reactivated with a surprisingly small amount of gluten...

False negatives on testing for celiac are all too common, even among folks who have had symptoms for a very long time. I know I am one of them. The doctors kept testing with the Elisa test over and over and over. Along with everything else that can be imagined. As the doctor who diagnosed me said if I waited for a positive blood test I would have been...

ARCHIVED New Here And Totally Overwhelmedravenwoodglass replied to Rhonda-R's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease It is overwhelming at first. The good news is that with a diagnosis of UC you may find that the gluten free diet helps you bring that undercontrol or even into remission. It may also help with your son's Chrons. No matter what his test results do give the diet a good try for you both. You have come to a good place for support and info. Read as much as you...

ARCHIVED An-Pep?ravenwoodglass replied to infosearcher's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Was she still on gluten or doing a gluten challenge before the endo? The gluten reaction can cause the inflammation of the esophagus and duodenum. If that was the case then she needed the diet and perhaps a short term on the script meds not a long term dosage. My GI found this inflammation on my tests also, in my case it was a reaction from the stuff I...

ARCHIVED Sore, Sad, And Sick Of Getting Sick!ravenwoodglass replied to 8Curvey8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You should also see your regular doctor and get stool tests done. You may have had more than just a stomach flu. If you had or have something like salmonella you may need an antibiotic to clear it up. I had salmonella once for over a month of misery and although my doctor insisted it was just my IBS getting worse after she finally did the stool tests I got...

ARCHIVED Why Can I Tolerate Wine And Beer, But Not Vodka!ravenwoodglass replied to Ringo454447's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have had both. I like the Luksusowa the best but the Chopin is good also. Since I usually mix it with lemonade or cranberry juice I just grab whichever is less pricey.

The problem is that there are false negatives with testing. You were already tested and showed up negative so I can't say if you would ever show positive or not. It is also not uncommon for us to have our celiac symptoms become worse after a stressor like childbirth. In fact giving birth is a trigger for some women. The choice is yours but personally I wouldn...

ARCHIVED Why Can I Tolerate Wine And Beer, But Not Vodka!ravenwoodglass replied to Ringo454447's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Me too. One grain based vodka and I don't remember anything after it and am sick as heck the next day even with just one drink. Potato vodka I can drink 2 or 3 with no ill effects, remember all of the night before and wake up hangover free. I would try a potato vodka if that is your favorite drink.

Hi Lou, Congratulations on the pregnancy, I hope all goes well. I would NOT drop the diet after you have the baby. I think it is pretty clear that your body is reacting adversely to gluten. Look at all that has gotten better gluten free. To go back to gluten is to risk losing your thyroid and developing other issues. Please stay gluten free, your baby...

ARCHIVED Problem With Ruffageravenwoodglass replied to Julysailor's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I have problems with lettuce for some reason. I thought I had issues with raw veggies in general for a while but then one wintery week I wanted a salad really bad but didn't have any lettuce so I just used other 'salad' stuff. I discovered a salad made with carrots, green squash, cukes, onions, peppers and even raw green beans went down fine with no issues...

ARCHIVED Feel Myself Slipping Into "That Place" Againravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Im sorry you didn't get that job. These times are hard for anyone looking for work right now. I am glad to hear the liver enzymes are going down. I wouldn't stress out about it too much if your doctor isn't overly concerned. Many of us do have elevated enzymes when diagnosed and they can take some time to get down to normal levels. Your doing the right thing...

ARCHIVED Gi Dr. Making Me Eat Glutenravenwoodglass replied to dksart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Gosh I wish you had a different doctor. IMHO he should have stopped the challenge not medicated you so you could continue it. I am sorry you are having to go through all this. Unfortunately even though you are feeling really awful I doubt you will have a postive blood test with this short of a challenge. DO NOT let him convince you to continue or redo it...

ARCHIVED Ttg Dropped But Not Enoughravenwoodglass replied to curiousgeorge's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Me to. That isn't a really high reading and I have heard that we sometimes never go down all the way into a negative reading. Don't know if that is true or not. I do know that with DH it can take up to 2 years for the antibodies to totally clear out of the skin. Perhaps the same can be true of the blood. Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable about...

ARCHIVED My Strange Little Dog'S New 'Thing'ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff I think you may be right. I had increased the amount I brush the big guy, maybe he noticed and is helping? Oh well as long as the dog doesn't lick the cat bald I suppose it isn't anything to worry about. It's just weird to watch.

I would wonder also. Why did your doctor prescribe Metformin if you haven't had any diabetes testing?

ARCHIVED Infection? Celiac? Or Both?ravenwoodglass replied to Katie B's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms An infection wouldn't damage your villi, as far as I know. Did your doctor say what the infection was? Some are more likely to come back than others. Did he do tests for infections, blood or stool or did he just figure you had one and give you the antibiotics? You are only a month into the diet. Gluten can hide in a lot of places that you wouldn't expect...

ARCHIVED A Big Thanks To All My Gluten Free Buddies!ravenwoodglass replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff We are a pretty special group of folks aren't we! I do agree that what a lot of us have gone through does give us a bit of patience and an empathy that others might not have. We also have great mods who help to keep thing under control too. I wish I knew about this site when I was first diagnosed as everyone is so helpful and there is so much info and support...

ARCHIVED My Strange Little Dog'S New 'Thing'ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff Okay this is going to sound like a strange thing to be concerned about but I know there are some pet savvy folks here so here goes... My little dog has recently been repeatedly and for long lengths of time licking my VERY large kitty's back. He hasn't done anything like this in the 8 years they have lived together. The cat is frankly obese at around 26 lbs...
