  1. It's going to be okay, I promise. You have found a great place for info and support with the changes you will need to make. If you alreay like to bake that is a good thing, you still can. Almost anything that can be made with gluten can be made without. If you are diagnosed 'officially' you are covered under the disability rights act and your school will...
  2. Do you take any scripts? Generics need to be checked at each refill even if marketed by the same company. Do you eat out at all? How much processed mainstream food? Feed pets gluten food? Work with gluten containing stuff in your job or hobbies like glues, drywall, clays etc? That said how are you feeling? Are you having any symptoms of CC frequently?
  3. Although nothing, no one, no way I would ever knowingly touch it again... Baklava or anything made with phyllo dough (anyone know of any gluten-free?) Those toaster strudel thingies or the raspberry flaky turnovers Cresent biscuits Real crusty warm Italian or Sourdough bread
  4. It sounds like your doctors are as bad as mine were. Being gluten free has a big learning curve and we don't heal overnight. Are using the same toaster as the gluten eaters? You need your own and you also need your own stuff like butter, mayo, pnut butter etc. The fact you feel a little better is a good sign but especially at first we can get glutened accidentally...
  5. Have you tried Pepto Bismal? My GI gave me sample of both Prilosec and Zantac but I decided to see if the Pepto would work before taking the scripts. It did and the only side effect was dark stool when I took it.
  6. The hopeless feeling could very well be related to the gluten slip up. Gluten can and does effect many of us mentally. We can also go through withdrawl which can cause us to be irritable, weepy etc. Don't lose hope, get back on the gluten free diet and give it a good chance to help. Healing doesn't happen overnight.
  7. We all have a tough time in the beginning. Do you know where it slipped in? What can we do to help?
  8. The reaction folks with DH get from iodine is not an allergic reaction. What it does is to activate the antibodies in the skin. Although it is not a true allergic reaction my doctors note it as an allergy in my records. My doctor for example ordered a CT for me a while back and wrote specifically that I was not to have the iodine injection that is usually...
  9. Don't overwhelm yourself. Start out concentrating on being gluten free. Some of that 'middle weight' may be bloat from the effects of celiac. I went from a size 12 down to 2-4 within the first month due to a loss in the bloat that I had to buy larger sizes to accomodate. Also the gluten free diet may help with some of the lupus symptoms or some that are...
  10. Perhaps you could start a group. You could do stuff like knitting baby and kids hats for donation. You could put up fliers at your local churches and library and one of them might even give you a free place to meet.
  11. I would get her into a derms office ASAP. The derm should biopsy the area next to her lesions to check for DH. If she has DH she has celiac and no more testing is needed. If you have her go gluten free now and you later decide to have a biopsy done she will have to go back on gluten for about 3 months before the test. Pure misery for those of us whose...
  12. Your doctor may be reluctant to do blood tests because of the high rate of false negatives in children his age. I would try to get her to do a complete panel though. It won't hurt. The change that you have seen in the 4 days he has been on the diet could be significant. I would stick with it and it might be a good idea to limit his dairy intake until he...
  13. I am so glad the test came out negative. I am sorry you had to go through it but glad the reaction was addressed and taken care of. Yes do get on the diet, it won't hurt and may make an incredible difference. I don't understand why your doctors won't run a full panel on you but at this point hopefully your bodies response to the diet will give you the...
  14. NO. You have antibodies forming whether it is under the label of gluten intolerance or celiac. Occasional glutening are just as damaging to both and take just as much time to recover from. The gluten intolerance label does NOT mean you have to be less strict.
  15. It really makes no difference which you have. IMHO. You need to be strict no matter what it is labeled.
  16. I'm glad they finally realized what it was. Hopefully you will have a quick recovery and be feeling better soon. It does seem quite a few of us do have, or have had, gallbladder issues. I wonder if the fact we don't digest fat prediagnosis has something to do with it. I really don't know though. Feel better soon.
  17. Unfortunately there is no regulation that says that they have to disclose even wheat if there is a chance for CC. Like with a shared line or facility. That labeling is totally voluntary as of this time. Hopefully that will change. Some companies have good policies about labeling CC risk but many don't.
  18. For some of us, like myself, it isn't a lack of anything that causes the tendon and ligament issues. It is just a genetic difference. I was born with ED, as were others that have it. It isn't something that develops it is just the way I am made. Folks with ED will sometimes see an increase in hypermobility as they get older especially if the weakness...
  19. The changes can be amazing. Glad you are recovering well.
  20. As you know, or should know anyway, I was referring to MSG and whether it is always safe when it is imported. You have the right to say the blanket statement that it is in all cases safe. I am simply saying that the choice to take the risk with foreign derived ingredients is up to the individual. Neither is really possible, as you know, or should know...
  21. Perhaps you might want to show where there isn't. It is not right to constantly demand that one person show links to everything they say and without providing links to 'prove' your side either. You and GFP seem to constantly disagree, perhaps you should both put the other on 'ignore'. You both have valuable insight to bring to the board and you both have...
  22. I haven't either, and I have eaten a lot of kraut. Silver Floss brand is my fav, it comes in a bag and is usually in the meat dept here. It is also a great source of probiotics for those who don't tolerate dairy.
  23. I agree if the item bothers you or you are worried about it you should avoid it. The FDA is well know to be very overworked and understaffed. 'Slip throughs' of toxic items and mass sickenings of our population from food borne illnesses are in the news on almost a daily basis. When the FDA is in the know about an issue they do act but it seems much slips...
  24. You have already had a postive biopsy, the gold standard. You become sick when eating gluten, you become well without. What more proof is really needed? A month may not even be enough for a postive blood test and then where will you be and what will you do? If I had to wait for a postive blood for diagnosis I would be dead by now. LOL The choice to...
