ARCHIVED Wow! Pain In Left Side - What Happened?ravenwoodglass replied to Tigercat17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease How severe is the pain? Have you talked to your doctor? If this is something that used to be once in a while and is now coming on more often and more severe you need to get this checked out. It is easy, especially in the beginning to think everything is gluten related when sometimes there may be another problem, nonfood related, going on. If you start...

I am one who agrees. With the high rate of false negatives in testing I really don't think even the doctors can say with certainty that they are not one and the same. There are also more than just DQ2 or DQ8 involved with celiac, in the US 7 more genes have been recently acknowledged and if you look into research in other countries some of them have been...

That's the way to go. You can add in a gluten-free mix or two as you heal and feel up to it. Most of what I make is naturally gluten free and a lot of what you already cook can be made easily by adjusting just a bit. Homemake beef stew is one example, when I make it I just cut some of the potatoes up really, really tiny and those break up and thicken the...

ARCHIVED Johnsonville Bratsravenwoodglass replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications They boil that particular brat in the beer to cook it (if I am even thinking of the same brand). I know I wouldn't be able to consume it. Whether it would CC other varieties I don't know. Different folks have different levels of sensitivity and whether or not to risk CC is up to them and the strength of their reaction. Of course there is also the possibility...

ARCHIVED Johnsonville Bratsravenwoodglass replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications They make a beer brat. They recently had a new commercial come out for it that has the most annoying jingle I have heard in a long time. That might be where the CC issue would come in.

ARCHIVED A Desperate Cry For Helpravenwoodglass replied to nicolenieto89's topic in Related Issues & Disorders Welcome. Do ask for the tests for mentioned. Make sure you don't go gluten free until all the testing is done. What health issues are you having other than the low blood sugar? For that if you eat small amounts frequently and make sure you eat some protein along with carbs that should help. Gluten free pretzels and some nuts and dried fruits in a bag...

ARCHIVED Blood Tests And Biopsy Done?ravenwoodglass replied to ggadwa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Do you have any health issues? Sensitive stomach, migraines, arthritis, anemia, diabetes etc? It was thought back then that children would outgrow celiac, I have heard stories like yours before as far as the 'banana' diet goes. If you are healthy and have no issues I would not be concerned but if you are having issues you should try the diet for a bit...

ARCHIVED Endoscopy Tuesdayravenwoodglass replied to dmurth01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Yes it will. You need to be on a gluten diet for the tests to have a good chance of being positive. Even then there is a chance of a false negative. If you are planning on a biopsy you need to get back on gluten immediately.

ARCHIVED Latest Test Results In!ravenwoodglass replied to roxnhead's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease "I will of course look for hidden gluten-vitamins etc. and be more strict about being gluten free" If you are not being strict on the diet your numbers are not going to go down. You do need to be strict with no cheating. Do look for hidden gluten and go to a whole foods unprocessed diet and avoid eating in restaurants that don't have a gluten free menu...

ARCHIVED Blood Workravenwoodglass replied to twe0708's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease My GI said to wait 6 months for the members of my family that showed up postive on blood testing. Different doctors may follow different guidelines.

I don't read Reader's Digest any longer because they are a cover to cover drug ad. It does not surprise me that a digest who relys so heavily on the drug business would downplay a disease that negates the need for script meds for so many.

ARCHIVED How Long On Gfd Until Improvement Seen?ravenwoodglass replied to mhalpin12's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis I was on a very strict doctor guided elimination diet and consuming only whole unprocessed foods when I went gluten-free. I stopped forming new sores pretty quickly, like within a couple of weeks, but it did take a couple of months for the ones I had to heal. In the beginning it took very, very little gluten to activate new lesions so I remained superstrict...

ARCHIVED Chex Pollravenwoodglass replied to brigala's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I don't know what would be accomplished by contacting the company with the results. There is such a high degree of variability in the sensitivity of folks with celiac and so many of us have other intolerances that we may or may not be aware exist especially in the beginning. I do think contacting them to find out the source of the Vitamin E is a good idea...

ARCHIVED Alvita Teas gluten-free?ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications Jason, I checked their website and it does not give gluten info that I could find. They do have contact info to email or call them. That might be your best bet. Celestial Seasonings does have a number of gluten-free teas and the ones that are say so on the box. If you can't get an answer about this brand maybe look for them. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Endoscopy And Biopsy!ravenwoodglass replied to LoraW76's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms The worst part about it is when they put an IV in. And even that's not bad. You'll go in, go to sleep and wake up and go home. Some will have a bit of a sore throat for a day or so but not everyone does. Try not to worry, it is one of the easiest procedures I have had done. You will not be able to drive that day and do be sure to make sure that someone...

ARCHIVED This Might Be A Stupid Question....ravenwoodglass replied to Shess0816's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut Some people will have an inflammatory response to them. The nightshade family includes peppers, potatoes and eggplant and perhaps some others.

Milletravenwoodglass replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications It also has a much more digestable form of protein. Cream of Buckwheat is one of my favorite things (especially when glutened) and Pocono brand is grown not far from me in dedicated fields and processed in a plant that only processes buckwheat.

ARCHIVED How Big Is This Iceberg ?ravenwoodglass replied to Dan300's topic in Related Issues & Disorders How big is this iceburg? Real Big. Celiac is rampant in this country and it amazes me how little many doctors know about it. I was undiagnosed for a really long time also and had a lot of systems effected so I know first hand how many body systems it can effect. I can't count the number of doctors who told me to learn to live with the pain. I also couldn...

ARCHIVED Plan To Check Out Rochester, Ny Food Stores.ravenwoodglass replied to Imanistj's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I live about half way between the two and other than of course Wegmans I like to shop at Mother Earth on Exchange St in Geneva. They are very good about checking items for me when needed and they carry the Kinnickinnick products that I like. They will also order cases of stuff and give a price break and have stuff I can't find at Wegmans like Glutino Cheese...

If the skin is red I would say you are reacting on some level. I would do the test a little differently. Put the iodine directly on your skin then cover it with the bandaid and leave the bandaid there for 48 hours without washing the area. Kind of like the patch test that should be done before coloring our hair, the instructions for that always say to...

ARCHIVED Chex Pollravenwoodglass replied to brigala's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I only eat the Rice Chex so I can only answer about those. I only eat them at most once a week and have had no issues. I don't know if I would react if I did an actual challenge with them, ie. ate them everyday for a week or so.
