ARCHIVED So What Beauty/Heath Products Are Safe?ravenwoodglass replied to Sunshine24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease "I think herbal beauty products are safe. So i always prefer to use herbal products for my skin." Not all herbal products are safe for us. Even if it is organic it can still contain gluten ingredients. Herbal or organic does not insure that an item is gluten free.

ARCHIVED Need Advice On Annual Biopsies For Toddlerravenwoodglass replied to Glutenfree4LJS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs I agree with you. If the child is having no symptoms and is thriving there is no need to put him through these yearly procedures other than to pad the GI's pocket. Do make sure that both parents and any brothers and sisters get tested also, even if they don't think they are having symptoms.

ARCHIVED Imitation Crab In Sushiravenwoodglass replied to Kathleen Elizabeth Strawn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants We can't just remove the gluten ingredient from a cooked food and consider it safe. There is no just eating the top from a pizza or the innards of a pie, or eat around the croutons on a salad, for example. If you absolutely have to go out to eat plain meat, steak or chicken with no seasonings other than salt and pepper you apply at the table are a good...

ARCHIVED False Postitive Ttg? Also Has Type 1 Diabetes.ravenwoodglass replied to kaiess's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I think you are smarter than the doctors with this one. The reason why they are waiting is they think along the same lines as your husband. They are waiting until enough damage has been done to his intestines to produce a positive biopsy. Unfortunately a lot of damage can be done to other body systems while they wait. HIs TtG is is positive and becoming more...

ARCHIVED Wrinkles!ravenwoodglass replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have had good results from the Garneir Ultra Lift Pro line. It says on the jar you'll notice a difference the first night. I did. Not a big difference but after about a month it does seem to have helped with some of the deeper lines and with tone etc. It is both soy and gluten free, something that can be hard to find.

ARCHIVED Question About Resultsravenwoodglass replied to huenix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms It's not. Please do stick with the diet, it does sound like it is helping.

The easiest way to try out the gluten-free diet is by going with whole unprocessed foods at first. Meats, chicken, veggies, fruits, rice, beans etc are all naturally gluten free. You do need to be aware that if you are gluten free you will not be able to be tested for celiac. You may want to consider at least getting blood testing done before starting the...

ARCHIVED Label Laws In United Statesravenwoodglass replied to srthomas21's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease It's a good idea until you get to know what companies will fully disclose it. In the US Kraft and Unilever are two companies that will not hide gluten in the flavorings. If for example barley is used they will say so.

ARCHIVED My Gi Friend Disagrees With My Gi Doc'S Diagnosis, Wwyd?ravenwoodglass replied to lizajane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease Well hopefully he will come around and that will never happen. But if it does it is good you have a family to help you through it. Sometimes after we heal and our loved ones see the dramatic effect things like CC can cause they come around. Meantime all you can do is be as careful as you can. Some of us in mixed houses have gone as far as to put a dedicated...

ARCHIVED Very Confused Wiith Test Results....ravenwoodglass replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You have had the scope and the blood work. You can now start a trial of the diet. Your body may even give you the answer before you go back to get the results. The gene test is not by itself diagnostic and not all doctors have them look for all the genes.

ARCHIVED Vitamins Stop Working After A Whileravenwoodglass replied to Zorba's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease What do you mean by you stop seeing benefits? Did you developed gluten type symptoms that had been gone for a bit? If that is what you mean have you checked to make sure those supplements were gluten free? Some will have barley or wheat grass that many be considered safe but that many of us will react to. Avoid them. As far as homeopathics go, I have not...

ARCHIVED Wilton Sprinkles And Sparkling Sugarravenwoodglass replied to Emily Elizabeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications These may actually be okay. Not all of us have to avoid stuff just because it is made in the same plant. They are being upfront about the possibility of CC, which is greatly appretiated. Those of us who are less sensitive could likely use them without issues but those of us who are very sensitive would want to avoid.

ARCHIVED Tuna And Chickenravenwoodglass replied to FranG's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications I have issues with many tuna's but it turned out to be an issue with the soy that is in most not gluten. Perhaps try a tuna that is packed in only water, Starkist makes one in a gold can. It is not uncommon for some of us to be sensitive to soy also. As to the chicken that I haven't used. I go with Hormel in the brown package which is for sure gluten-free...

ARCHIVED My Gi Friend Disagrees With My Gi Doc'S Diagnosis, Wwyd?ravenwoodglass replied to lizajane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease If he is your husband it IS your house too and you have a right to live safely in it. What he is doing is abuse IMHO. Give him a bit to get used to it and if he is still risking your health and well being well IMHO contacting a lawyer and starting the process of freeing yourself might be something to look into. Is he your partner in life or are you a maid...

ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity Linked To Pain And Fluidity?ravenwoodglass replied to amberlynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders I think you found the answer already. I also had arthritis with all the signs of it being RA but only a week positive in the blood tests for it. In the long run I was soooo happy I was not diagnosed with it because I would simply be popping meds and would have stopped looking for the real cause, gluten. It took me about 6 months on the diet, really strictly...

ARCHIVED Been Living This For Thirty Yearsravenwoodglass replied to Tom Riggins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease You did have a battlefield experience, and your brain and body were the battleground. After what we go through not only being so sick but difficulty in getting diagnosed it is surprising to me that more of us don't end up with PTSD. It can be a long fight back to any semblance of a normal life once we have been sick for many years. I am glad you have...

"Or you could assume that she's smart enough to know that she can't give all the info you need." I agree with this. It sounds like you have a good and caring doctor who wants you to get better as soon as you can. There is a bit to learn when we are first diagnosed. It isn't as simple as just don't eat wheat. You have found a great place for the info you...

ARCHIVED Blood Test Results And Another Question!ravenwoodglass replied to Luvbeingamommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms If you had positive blood work you likely have the answer. False negatives are not uncommon in endos. You have 22 ft of small intestine and the damage can be patchy or missed. I should note that the rate of false negatives for children in blood and biopsy is even higher than for adults. After you are done testing I would strongly encourage you to put both...

ARCHIVED "Brain Damage" - Brain Fog, Memory Loss, Etc.ravenwoodglass replied to Finally's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms Me to. In additon to the issues I checked I also had ataxia, problems with balance. I know what you mean about dementia, I had times when I would forget where my keys went into the car. I couldn't tell someone to bring me anything as simple as a fork and know that word would come out of my mouth. There was a lot of pointing and 'thingys' back then. I have...

ARCHIVED To Have The Biopsy Or...?ravenwoodglass replied to Kathleen Elizabeth Strawn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms You may want to suggest that they get screened for celiac. I am someone who believes all should be screened, as some countries that are more for preventative medicine and less for pumping their population full of drugs already do. I believe the large numbers of undiagnosed celiacs in the US is a strong contributor to the fact that folks in the US are some...

ARCHIVED I Think My Dog Is Trying To Kill Me.....ravenwoodglass replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease I always specify 'does it contain, wheat, rye, barley or any of it's derivitives'. Some folks just don't know what gluten is. I am really glad you read the label before consuming. IF you ever have to clean up powdered gluten again please do wear a face mask. When you breathed it in and it came into contact with those mucous membranes in your nose and mouth...

ARCHIVED Looking For Some Food Recommendationsravenwoodglass replied to nycgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease Kinnickinnick, Bakery on Main Granola, Glutino, Tinkyada pasta, Gluten Free Panry Mixes, the french bread mix makes great pizza crusts, those are a few of my favs. Everyone is different in their tastes as far as what they like. Take it easy on the replacements for a little bit though. Some will contain ingredients that you may not have had before and some...

ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results - Other High Risk Gene?ravenwoodglass replied to Shelsi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms That is what it looks like to me. I am far from an expert on the genes though. We have a couple of members who are very knowledgeable about the genes. Hopefully one of them will also answer your post soon.

ARCHIVED Question About Resultsravenwoodglass replied to huenix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms I would start the diet. You have had a positive blood test and a endo that showed that you may be (probably are with the positive blood work) in the early stages of celiac. I would start the diet. That is the truest test. It is very common for us to have elevated liver panels, GERD and the other symptoms you are having. If you have any questions please feel...

ARCHIVED How Do You Respond To Things Like This?ravenwoodglass replied to bluebonnet's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease That would be what I do. If you guys like deep dish Gluten Free Pantry makes a great french bread mix that also makes a great pizza dough. They also make cake mixes and Betty Crocker even has mixes now.
