  1. I would talk to your doctor. I did have severe pain in the lower left but then again I had severe pain all over my body. LOL In my case my first colonoscopy showed that I had 'the most extensive case' of diverticulosis my GI had ever seen. Normally it is only found on the left side of the large intestine mine was throughout the whole organ. Interesting that...
  2. If the 'starch' is wheat starch it should say so. Sometimes the best thing to do when in doubt is to call the company and ask.
  3. Also keep in mind that false negatives on blood work are not uncommon. If they do come back negative give the diet a good strict try to see if it helps anyway. As the other poster said if you are considering a biopsy, which also has a chance of a false negative, do keep up a full gluten diet until the test is done.
  4. False negatives are not uncommon. You have a couple choices, you could try Enterolab for stool testing for antibodies or you could do a strict trial of the diet or you could look for another doctor who is more knowledgeable about celiac. You do sound like you could be one of us.
  5. Do also check all your meds, script and OTC as well as your toiletries. You will also heal faster if you go with whole unprocessed foods for a bit and when you do eat processed if you see a 'made in a facility that uses wheat etc' pass on it till you have healed fully.
  6. You may want to drop soy and dairy for a bit and see if that helps. If it does then after a month or so add them back in one at a time and see if the pain restarts. Some folks also have problems with nightshades if the dropping soy and dairy doesn't help then you may want to consider dropping the nightshades and see if that helps.
  7. The best way to start is with whole unprocessed foods. You will heal fastest that way. One reason you may be having trouble with sticking with it is because for some of us gluten causes an addictive effect in our brain chemistry. This can cause withdrawl with irritability and moodiness but that will pass. For me it took about 2 weeks. Even a small amount...
  8. I know the Jello is safe. The ready made Jello puddings are safe also but I am not sure about the mix so hopefully someone else will know for sure.
  9. It's not a stupid question at all. And yes the topicals you are using can effect you if they contain gluten. I would suggest going through your toiletries etc and eliminating any that contain gluten containing ingredients. If you still want to keep dying your hair let your scalp heal and then use a gluten free dye. Garnier makes them, and most of the shampoos...
  10. I could be wrong but I think this is more like to be from cross contamination in something you are still eating. I get awful back pain when glutened mostly due to kidney damage.
  11. Thanks for posting the survey. I wish they had included more options under how you were diagnosed. They only list blood, biopsy and selfdiagnosed. I don't fit any of those since I was diagnosed by my allergist and confirmed by my GI when the gluten challenge resulted in an extremely severe reaction. It is nice they are trying to get some input from us but...
  12. It does sound like DH especially if the scars are a purplish color. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac so if you can see a derm when you have an active rash they can biopsy the skin next to the lesion to look for the antibodies. Sometimes when we suspect DH we can make arrangements with a derm to call and get in fast when the blisters appear.
  13. Personally I wouldn't chance it. Can you modify your eating instead? Perhaps choose more more veggies and fruits and go easy on any high calorie foods? I keep my weight under control by eating one main meal and snacks of fresh fruit or veggie sticks and I make sure i drink a full glass of water before I eat. I also on occasion will fast for a day. Might...
  14. Yes you do need to be that strict. As far as making wheat bread sandwiches, if you can keep your hands away from your face while your doing it and wash your hands afterward you should be fine. It is best not to cook with gluten flours though if you can avoid it. The flour gets into the air and can take up to 24 hours to settle. You can become ill from breathing...
  15. You you can say you are celiac. Your genes are DQ8 and DQ6, the DQ8 is the 'celiac' gene.
  16. I haven't tryed any of the capsule but I do take Y.S. Organic Bee Farms Fresh Royal Jelly. I take the 1/4 teaspoon with a bit of honey on top. I don't know if they make a capsule form of it but there is nothing in the jelly but the jelly.
  17. The round and hookworms could also be picked up from a pet. Have you got a pet that has not had a stool sample checked? If you do I would get it done. If you did by some chance pick it up from your cat or dog that would possibly cause you to be reinfected even if the treatment was successful in killing them the first time.
  18. It certainly could be celiac. You need to ask your doctor for a blood test to start. It is a misconception that celiacs are all skinny, many of us are overweight when diagnosed, some by a lot. Ask your GP or the hematologist, if neither one of them will test if your female ask your OB/GYN. If you can't get them to at least screen you there is the option of...
  19. Getting rid of the pressure gets rid of corn. They will usually peel off easily layer by layer after a soak in the tub or shower. It is not a real quick process but it is chemical free. I then use the pads to prevent corns when I absolutely have to wear the shoes that caused them in the first place. It's best of course to not wear shoes so tight that corns...
  20. The next time you get a corn try getting just the pads with an open spot instead of using the 'corn dissolving' pads. It takes longer for them to loosen so they can simply be peeled off but they will soften and fall off like a callus and the open areas on the pads keep them from hurting.
  21. What were they identified as?
  22. If she is newly diagnosed with celiac she may find the IC resolves pretty quickly. I haven't had an issue with it since shortly after going gluten free. For me it seems gluten causes as much of an issue when it exits the body as it does while inside. I have issues with burning bleeding and discomfort when glutened but they resolve pretty quick as long as...
  23. How badly do you want an 'official' diagnosis? If your husbands recovering is more important than getting the 'OD' then go ahead and start the diet. I would keep the appointment for the biopsy if he is still having issues after that but if the diet takes care of the issues IMHO you have your 'official' diagnosis.
  24. Call your doctor about this. He can suggest a different product if needed. Do not skip any of the steps. If you are not throughly cleaned out the doctor won't be able to do the test.
  25. I know it's hard but try not to take things to personally. People don't know our circumstances and at times they will jump to conclusions that are appropriate to their lives but not ours. It's hard but try not to let it get to you.
