  1. It is not uncommon for SED rate and liver panels to be a bit off when we are diagnosed. For most of us these resolve after we have been gluten free for a while and have healed. Try not to worry just follow up on it with the retesting and make sure you are checking all you need to for gluten and making the changes you need in your household.
  2. The blood tests can go negative pretty quickly once we are gluten-free. One of the reasons why it is stressed that folks need to be on a full gluten diet when being tested. You are doing a great job, keep it up.
  3. My 'acne' didn't just get better it finally cleared completely. I haven't had any new outbreaks since I went gluten-free. Between acne and DH lesions my face and back were a mess prediagnosis. One of the nicest side effects, other than not being in constant pain anymore, was getting to have the clearest skin in my life.
  4. I know the Rice Dream does but don't know about the Almond. Pacific makes a for sure safe Almond milk.
  5. It's only been 2 weeks. You didn't get as sick as you have been overnight. It will take some time to heal. Are you taking any supplements? A sublingual B12 could be helpful as well as a 'Stress' vitamin with high levels of B and C. I know it is hard to be patient with our systems but they don't give us any choice. Do make sure you are checking all supplements...
  6. You didn't come off as a jerk at all. You are right that glucose is a sugar and it isn't common here in the US for it to be wheat derived. Or to see it labeled that way. I think it is more common in stuff from Europe but I could be wrong.
  7. It was very brave of you to try something as strenuous as Disneyland so early on. Don't be too hard on yourself for what happened today. Disney is actually a great place for us from what I understand. When your feeling better give it another go and find out which food courts have the gluten free food. You may still be going through withdrawl. Also it is...
  8. Because celiac is an autoimmune reaction I think at least for gluten you need to be completely gluten free. Even a small amount will keep the antibodies going and keep you symptomatic. Have you gotten any testing done yet? If not you should think about getting a through checkup including celiac screening and screening for diabetes and thyroid issues to start...
  9. It sounds like the most suitable subjects are going to be folks who were just diagnosed and haven't had any time to heal yet. Those who are newly diagnosed might still be able to do this. I wonder what this lab is trying to accomplish? A drug to stop the antibodies perhaps?
  10. I agree. You might want to talk to your doctor and see if you can get a note or something on his stationary or a script form that states clearly that you have dietary restrictions. That might help you get something through the line.
  11. I had chronic bronchitis from childhood and developed asthma a few years before I was diagnosed. Both were attributed to first my Mom's smoking and then my own. Within a relatively short time gluten-free both were gone. I think they both may have been due to chronic inflammation, which I had big time and all over prediagnosis.
  12. Glucose syrup can be wheat derived. That is why the label says "glucose syrup 'wheat'". Due to FDA regs if anything is derived from wheat it has to be labeled as such and that is what this company is doing. Some of us may be able to tolerate it just fine. I am not one of them.
  13. If you have not so far had an issue in your boyfriends house I wouldn't worry about it as you are already doing a good job of keeping safe there. I think the issue is the home where you are babysitting. It is there that you are looking like you need to take more precautions. Powder free non latex gloves may help. I get a big box at my local drugstore. Put...
  14. If untreated yes as Peter said. After you have been gluten free for a while and have healed I think it is a bit more individual. In my case I get no problems gut wise from stress at all anymore.
  15. It is advised to test all first degree relatives of a person who is diagnosed. Yes your children should be tesed. Especially since they sound symptomatic. If you don't want anything 'on file' with your regular doctor you could do Enterolab testing. They do not diagnose celiac but they will tell you if antibodies are present.
  16. The afterglow cosmetics might fit your needs. I have been looking for GFSF cosmetics for a long time and never clicked that link. It turns out they derive their Vit E from sunflower seed and I didn't see any soy in any of the products I looked at. I only looked at a couple things as I didn't have much time but I will be going back there.
  17. Can't say if it will for you but it did for me. My feet even went down a full size. I noticed the biggest difference in the first couple months. I still have some morning swelling in my hands and fingers but I think that is more related to my arthritis and it goes away after I have been up for a while.
  18. I agree. Something I did in addition to upping my protein was I started adding a bag of Wylde Pretzels to my daily diet. Each bag has about a thousand calories. I would open it in the morning and eat the bag bit by bit throughout the day along with my regular meals. That added a thousand calories without ever making me feel overly full. I often washed them...
  19. This could be very helpful for many. Thanks for posting. I checked it out but unfortunately I don't weigh enough to donate.
  20. Actually that could be very dangerous. Spirulina contains large amounts of Vitamin A. Even taking 5 or 6 tabs would be overkill but taking a handful could be really bad especially if done over time. VITAMIN A. Vitamin A toxicity can occur with long-term consumption of 20 mg of retinol or more per day. The symptoms of vitamin A overdosing include accumulation...
  21. Symptoms can be off and on for a long time before they are a regular daily occurance. I would see if I was celiac before starting the meds. Celiac can cause anxiety and depression. If you can have your regular doctor call in the order for the celiac panel you should or you could ask your psychiatrist. It sounds like your health issues are causing the anxiety...
  22. I would get to a neurologist. They may need to give you gluten and try to bring on an episode while they do an EEG and possibly an MRI or other testing to really tell you what is happening. I also have neuro impact from celiac. I have ataxia, although it is now much better. I had pretty severe nerve damage that started in childhood and it did take some...
  23. Even on a full gluten diet up to 20% of us will be negative on blood testing. Unfortunately I know this all to well. I am one of those 20% and until I was finally diagnosed I didn't even know what celiac was other than the doctors said I was negative for celiac sprue. A couple even were surprised because I was so clearly celiac by symptoms. They tested over...
  24. I also hadn't been to the movies in years and went to see Legion a couple weeks ago. Should have seen Avatar but anyway...I went to a matinee on a slow day and got there a bit early. The folks behind the counter were great and one guy went and grabbed the huge barrel of 'oil' that they use and let me read the label. It looked safe so I got a small package...
  25. I may only eat one 'meal' a day but I do graze a lot for the rest of the day. A piece of fruit and some nuts or a salad, veggie sticks or pretzels, a bowl of cereal etc. I guess I have had so many years of negative effects from food that I am kind of the opposite of Pavlov's dog. For years food made me so sick that I couldn't eat until I was home for the...
