ARCHIVED Help! I Am Very New To This Disease And Feel Overwhelmed!
ravenwoodglass replied to twinflame2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just wanted to add that my experience with arthritis is the same as the Respira. I had severe arthritis and also carry the gene that is considered a RA gene here in the states. It is however a celiac gene in some other countries, Japan is the one that comes to mind first. Anyway the important thing to me is that I have now been in full remission from... -
ARCHIVED Using Old Drugs For Art, Does Anyone Know...
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks all for your input. I think contacting the family lawyer may be the best way to go, I hadn't even thought of that. I had already decided to leave off the 'true' narcotics but would like to be able to use the other stuff. Boy would this tackle box shock my doctors, since they all thought I was a 'drug searcher' the full bottles of pain meds would... -
ARCHIVED Negative Test Results For My 2.5 Yr Old Daughter...
ravenwoodglass replied to mommytoE&E's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The testing for celiac leaves a lot to be desired. Up to 30% of us will have a false negative on blood tests. In countries that routinely screen for celiac they test at 4 and again at puberty because of this. The true test is the diet and it sure does sound like she should be on it, especially with a family history. That doctor should have told you... -
ARCHIVED How Far Between Exposure & Dh Breakout?
ravenwoodglass replied to Alternative mama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My experience has been that it can be within 24 hours, sometimes if I get enough it will occur within minutes but that hasn't happened in a few years. I also get hit with a deep 24 hour depression followed by a couple of weeks of anxiety. Ususally the gut stuff hits me 2 to 3 days after exposure. I should also note that after a couple of years gluten free... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Test Strips Now Available
ravenwoodglass replied to holiday16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's too bad it is so pricey. I wouldn't mind being able to test meds and other occasional suspect things. Not at that cost though. I'll wait until the price come downs to real life. -

The protein in oats is similar to the one in gluten, not all of us can tolerate oats. I really loved them but even the certified gluten free ones give me nasty stomach pain and other gluten type issues. Not as bad as wheat but still not nice. So it seems unfortunately I am one of the celiacs who can't do them. Do you eat a lot oatmeal? Have you ever... -
ARCHIVED Using Old Drugs For Art, Does Anyone Know...
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for all the replies. After thinking about it some more I think I really need to use the actual pills. I think what I am going to do is have my local frame shop encase it in a box frame, if I should ever decide to show it. When I worked with youth and we had cases or displays of illegal drugs that is what they did. Maybe check with my local... -

ARCHIVED School Compliance, Biopsy Equivocal
ravenwoodglass replied to stolly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have any answer to the school question but there is some info that you may find interesting as regards your DD RA diagnosis. You may find that once she is gluten free that she her RA goes into remisson. I find it interesting that doctors note that often the TTG is positive for RA patients. I find this a real Duhhhh sort of idea. I have a 'celiac... -

ARCHIVED Using Old Drugs For Art, Does Anyone Know...
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I know this is somewhat of an odd question but I am in the midst of doing some paintings that are kind of dealing with my celiac history, suffering and anger. We'll get to the healing ones later. In one of these I plan to use old MRI films, Xrays and pills. I still have my pharmacopia from my prediagnosis days, it fills a tackle box . I have used... -

Those muffins sound good. I envy the oatmeal, I was hoping I could do gluten-free ones but not the case, so eat an extra one for me okay? I hope your move goes smoothly this weekend. I know you must be looking forward to the freedom of walking into your own gluten-free space, although I know it will also be a lot of work. Best wishes with the move and... -
ARCHIVED Bladder Cocktails For Ic
ravenwoodglass replied to imsohungry's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The fact that one week it didn't burn is kind of telling. They usually use a topical anesthetic before the insertion, you should find out if they have used a different topical that week. There may be something in the topical that you are reacting to. Ask them to check the record and use whatever they used the time it didn't burn. I would also get a mirror... -
ARCHIVED Cushion's Disease And Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to annapumpkin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is just a thought, and if you have eliminated the possibility forgive me mentioning it. Have you checked all the meds they are giving you with the company that makes them? Are they prescribing any generics? Did they prescribe anything new before all this started? -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test?
ravenwoodglass replied to cdog7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't rely on those blood tests. You can't even really rely on the endo either, it can be hit and miss and while both tests can say for sure that you have celiac neither can say for sure that you don't. The true test is how you feel on the gluten-free diet. You don't need a doctors permission to eat gluten free. There are gene tests but they also can... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy And Blood Pressure Spikes
ravenwoodglass replied to greendog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Another agreement. It also raises my blood sugar, leading to a misdiagnosis of diabetes when I went to the doctor for help getting over a glutening. I was real thankful I said no thanks to diabetes meds after a year of morning, post and pre prandial reading revealed that the only time my BS is high is when....glutened. -

Doesn't the college have a library with tables? The cafe can't be the only place you can find with a table to study at. If it bothers you to that much of an extent to have folks eating gluten food around you the best thing may be to find someplace to sit that doesn't sell food. If that isn't possible then do as another poster said and make yourself a nice... -
ARCHIVED Putting The Pieces Together, waiting On Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to mamasaidso's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome. When there is one celiac in the family there are for sure lots more. Many of them will of course be diagnosed with other things, after all celiac is not looked for much here. I am with you with the Fosamax stuff, I will need a lot of dental work and possibly extractions and this drug was not worth the risk for me. My doctor told me to start... -
ARCHIVED Huncan Hines / Pillsbury Frostings

Duncan Hines has changed formulas apparently, when did you call? I found this and lots of similar replies: Open Original Shared Link Also, Lani K. Thompson from the Clan Thompson lists emailed: "Duncan Hines told me today (January 24, 2007) that they no longer consider any of their frostings to be gluten free because they are manufactured in a facility... -
ARCHIVED Blood Transfusion
ravenwoodglass replied to b.claussen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Are you sure that they are talking about a transfusion? Could they have said they were going to use an blood iron infusion? That would be where they would use a vein to deliver iron but it doesn't involve using someone else's blood. You say she is attempting to be gluten free? Does that mean that she is eating risky foods or sometimes cheats? Is she... -
If it continues or gets worse you should call your doctor or go to the ER. It could be a lot of different things, including of course gluten. I hope that your either feeling better or you have gotten some help by now.

ARCHIVED My Five Year Old Celiac's Eczema
ravenwoodglass replied to texasmama's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It is hard to tell from the pictures. They looked blistered to me in the photo's. Even if it is not DH but some form of excema being gluten free may help. You may want to have a doctor look at it, perhaps an allergist. There are some who can help guide you through the elimination diet process and that guidance can be really beneficial. It was an allergist...
