  1. Try and keep temptation away for as long as you can. For many of us there is a bit of withdrawl involved, make sure you keep some special gluten free treats on hand for when you need a 'fix' the worst. Once your brain has a chance to clear from all the neurotoxic effects you may very well find that depression is no longer an issue. Be sure to check any...
  2. You do sound like you could be one of us. I hope you are going to give the diet a good try. It sounds like you have neurological impact and it can take a long time for some of us to get enough damage to show up on a biopsy. The biopsies can also be hit and miss and it sounds like your doctors may kill you while you wait for a positive one. Do give the...
  3. Nicole I do so hope that you are going to get him onto the diet also. With one already eating gluten-free at least you have some idea what you are doing. With a brother that has celiac the chances that he does also are really high. No matter what conventional tests say. I don't know how common it is to have one family member show positive and another...
  4. Do try the diet with her even if testing does not show full blown celiac. Many Aspies do get some resolution of symptoms with the gluten and casien free diet. I do hope you give the diet a good six months trial before you decide it isn't doing any good. It may not 'cure' her but it could make life a lot easier.
  5. Boy does this little one of yours sound like he is a mix of my two My son never slept through the night. He was up for 2 hours then asleep for 2 hours for the first three years of his life. I thought I would never sleep again and when he was an infant I would bring him in to sleep with me, not safe I now know but I would have never slept otherwise. ...
  6. Yes it certainly could be neurologically related. Meanwhile you need to get that school on the ball. I realize things are tough in the school systems right now but they are really dropping the ball with your young one. My DD had speech problems as a young child, resolved mainly by the years of speech therapy she had at school. She lost her speech at about...
  7. If you go to your OB-GYN they have a blood test that will tell you where your hormone levels are. That will tell you if you are experiencing hormone related hot flashes. Celiac took away my periods at around 40 before I went gluten-free, I was having almost constant hot flashes then. They continued for a long time but after I went gluten-free they decreased...
  8. The gluten response is often delayed. What I would reccommend is drinking a guiness at least once a day for a week. If you last a week. For many it can take a few days before the reaction is seen. The fact that you are so apprehensive to a full gluten challenge is quite telling, IMHO.
  9. Thank you so much for the good news. I am glad everything is looking up and he is home.
  10. Genetics is in it's infancy. Not all people with full blown celiac have those two genes. Relying on whether you have those two genes for diagnosis could result in a lot of suffering and disability. If I relied on gene testing I would still be taking multiple meds every day just to survive, notice I didn't say live. Gene testing would have the doctors...
  11. Try having him turn on the water faucet. Also if he can read stick a check list by the door, you know hat, gloves, coat, books, go to restroom. Perhaps if it is more of a habit or responsibility it won't be as much of an issue. I wouldn't even ask him if he has gone, he may find that embarrassing. Most of all try not to worry about it. He has other more...
  12. It could be. He may not be getting signals properly from the nerves and that could also lead to problems with holding it when he does get the urge. Is he able to make it to the potty in time to prevent an accident? Bear in mind also though that some kids just don't want to take the time to pee. They don't have much control over thier lives and this for...
  13. My opinion also. I won't touch natural flavors without calling about them first.
  14. Please, I can not urge you strongly enough to get your child on the diet. He may not have one of the two recognized celiac genes but he does have one that has serious neurological impact. My neuro impact started at about age 4. It progressed slowly from there until by the time I would be diagnosed 40 years later I had almost lost bowel and bladder control...
  15. I am grateful I am not dead. or in a wheel chair or in pain I can write I can read again I can walk freely I can climb a ladder I can garden I can feel happiness I can create I can name a fork, most days I can DANCE!!!! I am grateful my children will never be as sick as I was my grandchildren will be of their full height I...
  16. Just a thought, do they have any of the big chalky blocks of talc stuff to keep people's hands from slipping? If they do it may not be gluten-free and that may be an issue that you have to be really careful of. For example don't place your towel on equipment and then wipe you face with it etc. It may not be a concern but some of my family are billard players...
  17. You should call your doctor to ask for stool testing for food borne bugs, just to be on the safe side. You may just be getting different viruses but you could also have something like salmonella which you would need an antibiotic for.
  18. I am glad you have reconsidered the removal issue. Our teeth can be troublesome but they are important. I also have a very sensitive mouth, with defective enamel for some of us it is like the nerve is running right on the surface. (I hope you are not using Sensodyne, that is not gluten-free.) What I have done is I go and the doctor schedules a long block...
  19. If you have had a positive reaction, you got ill, from reintroducing gluten you have your answer. If your stools have turned green you are impacting either your liver or your gall bladder. Do not downplay your symptoms to your doctor. He may tell you to continue but it is your choice. It is now obvious that gluten is toxic to you, hopefully your doctor...
  20. Something else you can do is to go to your local restaurants and see if one will let you come in on off hours and use their kitchen. You could supply them with for sure gluten free desserts in exchange. Do not ask a bakery, you would never get those free of gluten, but you could use any other restaurant. If you have a restaurant you eat at frequently they...
  21. Hey you never know, it may be the only cause. For some of us, like myself and others in my family that has been shown to be the case.
  22. You had another celiac stupid doctor who virtually guarenteed you would show up negative in the tests by having you go gluten-free for 3 weeks before the test. The tests are notorious for false negatives even when we are actively consuming gluten, having you cut it our before testing made this almost a certainty. You could try Enterolab for stool testing...
  23. I would get a B12 supplement that is in pill form and dissolves under the tongue. Taking it by itself makes for better absorption and that way you are only taking one substance and it will make it easier to pinpoint if you are reacting to something in it. Some are loaded with sugar alcohols, I would look for one with the least ingredients possible and clearly...
  24. This has certainly been happening for longer than just since the potato famine. But it was only 'discovered' in Holland after war restrictions on flour were lifted and folks who had been forced onto a gluten free diet started getting sick when they were able to eat gluten again... Can we all say gluten challenge Celiac folks are found all over the world...
  25. It is much more likely that the celiac is causing the OCD and anxiety. Can you get your folks to spend an hour or two here with us and reading others posts? Depression, anxiety, irritability, difficulty with thought processes (we call it brain fog) ataxia, (balance issues), nerve damage and more are all associated with celiac and it's reaction on the brain...
