ARCHIVED I Have The Enterolabs Results. What Do You Think?
ravenwoodglass replied to mom2one's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Ursa fully. My signature kind of addresses the questions asked in this post. When I was diagnosed celiac, finally, I knew nothing about it other than that the doctor told me it was the cause of my D. When he told me not to be surprised if all my autoimmune disorders resolved I laughed at him and told him I was just glad the D was gone. Within... -
ARCHIVED Are These Normal Symptoms For Anyone Else?
ravenwoodglass replied to newgirl88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Good advice but one caution about iodine, if you have DH it will keep it active or can cause new lesions. If you notice any skin problems after upping your iodine intake make sure it isn't DH rearing it's head. -
ARCHIVED Are These Normal Symptoms For Anyone Else?
ravenwoodglass replied to newgirl88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In addition to the great advice you already gotten, has your doctor told you to eliminate gluten in your toiletries, lotions and cosmetics? Have you checked every script you are on and every OTC med? Do you think you may be getting cc'd at restaurants or do you have messy gluten eaters at home? Do you do a lot of crafting or are you remodeling your home... -
ARCHIVED Hives From Sublingual B12?
ravenwoodglass replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would agree that you need to get another, for sure gluten-free brand of sublingual. I also use Country Life, they are free of gluten, soy and dairy and state so on the label. Not all naturopaths are as celiac savvy as we would like, mine thought a 'little bit' of soy or gluten wouldn't be a problem, they were a big problem. A week after spending $... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Safe Laxitive.
ravenwoodglass replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just use sweet potatoes. I boil one up and then saute with some sugar to make them seem more a treat than a medicine. Works overnight for me with no side effects. -
ARCHIVED Trouble W/lay's Plain Chips?
ravenwoodglass replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Because sometimes I do I avoid them as I don't like playing roulette. -
ARCHIVED All Tests Negative?!
ravenwoodglass replied to BallardWA's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup. Over and over. But no doctor ever suggested the diet. Up to 30% of us will have negative blood tests, even if almost dead. Go with your gut. -
ARCHIVED Accidental Glutening List
ravenwoodglass replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I envy you the addition and him the fruit trees. Make sure they tape off the used part of the house while doing the addition to as great of an extent as you can. Depending on how it is being done you might even be able to do the break thru to the main house after most everything is done. I also am old fashioned and would throw my crank can opener in... -
ARCHIVED Confusing Test Result
ravenwoodglass replied to ksymonds84's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Short and simple, go with what your body is telling you. If your body is saying it doesn't like gluten you should listen. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Do For The Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ken I would not trust those Tums if I were you. Remember that gluten is often a delayed reaction. The tums may help with symptom relief in the short run but is liable to give you symptoms a couple of days later. Which of course would cause you to take more Tums and continue the cycle indefinately. It is your choice but IMHO I wouldn't touch them with... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Magazine! Vote! Hurry!
ravenwoodglass replied to highrentsmile's topic in Publications & Publicity
Keep those votes coming, I just voted and we are greatly in the lead, lets keep it going!!!! -
ARCHIVED Could It Be That Simple?
ravenwoodglass replied to Muzz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No your not alone in recognizing this. Just imagine how many dollars could be saved in health care and how many lives could be saved if only doctors would get their heads out of the PDR and actually put two and two together. Unfortunately our medical proffesion has gotten so specialized that doctors fail to look at the whole picture. Everyone takes his... -
ARCHIVED Fertility Awareness Method Vs Birth Control
ravenwoodglass replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had an IUD inserted by a sadistic doctor in my teens. I have not heard of one that does not say that you should have had at least one child, they may exist but if they do they must be very new. Having an IUD inserted requires dilation and this is extemely painful for women whoses bodies have not already been through the process. I almost passed out on... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab
ravenwoodglass replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Enterolab was my choice when after over 4 years gluten-free I started reacting to stuff after a severe GI illness. I had them test for everything other than gluten, we already know I can't have that. The test showed antibodies to casien and soy and problems have resolved after eliminating them. Enterolab does not technically diagnose people, what they... -
ARCHIVED Accidental Glutening List
ravenwoodglass replied to kenlove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will add the two things that took the longest for me to figure out. Drywall compound was one of the worst. I was actually still on an elimination diet and only eating whole unprocessed foods at the time. I was remodeling and couldn't figure out what was making me sick. After a difficult search I found the NIH website and checked my brand of drywall... -
ARCHIVED Nice Eyelashes!
ravenwoodglass replied to ThomasMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Agree with the other poster. These girls who say this are trying to give you a compliment and an opening line. Sometimes girls can be as awkward and clumsy when they want to talk to someone as a guy. Try to think of a 'witty' response that can get the conversation moving. -
ARCHIVED Any Tips For My Gi Doctor Appointment Tomorrow?
ravenwoodglass replied to Joyous's topic in Doctors
Now is when you try the diet unless he is going to do a endoscopy. Not all of us show up on blood work although many who don't show up in blood do show up in stool testing (enterolab). It is always nice if we can get a clear definative answer through tests but with celiac unfortunately the final answer is often found in response to the diet itself. -
Did your allergist offer to help you formulate one? That would be the easiest way to go. Mine started mine the day I had the skin tests done. You could also simply eliminate gluten and dairy and eat a whole foods for sure gluten free diet for a while and then, if you need to, do a short gluten challenge to see if you react.

ARCHIVED Tinctures And Vitamin Supplements
ravenwoodglass replied to Nanjkay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also have had some really bad effects from tinctures. I am sensitive to gluten grain alcohols though. My health food store calls about any that I have had an interest in. It is important the way you word a query about the alcohols and vinagers, because most consider them to be gluten free it is better to ask what the alcohol is derived from without asking... -
ARCHIVED Hair Color Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to teamworkjr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Herbatint and love it. It is an herbal tint and comes in both permanent and temporary forms (note: I have not checked the temporary forms for gluten statis). The thing I like most about them is you can mix just what you need and safe the rest for later use. I found the tint at Wegmans and also at my local health food store. The health food store... -
ARCHIVED Slow And Sluggish Digestion
ravenwoodglass replied to AliB's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I started to digest things after I went gluten free pretty quickly, but a bout of pancreatitis ended the good digestion for me last spring. A couple of months ago I decided to give digestive enzymes a try and the difference has been amazing. I am finally gaining back the weight I lost last spring and I was even able to eat some chili and meat sauce with... -
ARCHIVED The Roommate Situation Is Worse...
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
(((((((((HUGS))))))))) We recently went through roommate hell with my son. He moved to the other end of the country and locked into a lease for $1,200 a month. Both of the guys and my DH signed the lease. About 3 months into the lease the roommate stopped paying rent and began using every opportunity he could to gluten my DS. To say the last year was... -
ARCHIVED Italian Bread?
ravenwoodglass replied to jenrn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love the Kinnickinnick Italian bread. It does come presliced, I do wish they carried one that was shaped that real italian but for a premade gluten-free bread it is really close. If I want a true loaf bread that I can bake in the oven I really like the Gluten Free Pantries French Bread Mix. It makes a really great pizza crust also, even the gluten eaters... -
Is there any way at all that you can get that tooth removed? I don't know if it is contributing to your sinus problems but repeated infections in your mouth have a high risk of spreading to your brain and possibly even damaging your heart. I know you travel quite a bit, if it is impossible to accomplish on your side of the pond are you planning any trips...

The skin break outs sound like DH. I will get cold sore type sores from lip products that have gluten, have you eliminated it from your toiletries, make up and such? You could have gotten CC somewhere along the line also, especially if you share your home with gluten eaters or have eaten at a restaurant.
