ARCHIVED Testing Results
ravenwoodglass replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope these become available soon. It would be a dream come true for us, wonder what will happen when we all start testing stuff, meds in particular, and we start making phone calls. Hmmmmm -
ARCHIVED I'm Confused About All The Bs
ravenwoodglass replied to gdobson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Get both the sublingual B12 and the B complex. If they have a 'stress' B complex with C that is a good one also. You could also go with a good multiple and the sublingual B12. Just make sure they are gluten free and say so on the box. Females should also make sure to be getting enough iron, if you are male or postmenapausal do not supplement iron unless... -
ARCHIVED Help With Results
ravenwoodglass replied to FlourShopGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Then there is no reason not to. It will give you the best answer anyway. You don't need a doctors permission to be gluten free. If after a couple of months following the diet strictly you are still wondering if it is an issue a short (till you react) gluten challenge will tell you all you need to know. Do bear in mind that many of us have an issue with... -
ARCHIVED Better Yet Still Feel Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to skinnyasparagus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gosh yes handling that piece of bread and then eating would certainly be enough to make you sick. So will using the same toaster, cutting board, scratched pans, sharing peanut butters and jellys and condiments and such. Even kissing someone who is drinking beer or a gluten alcohol or after they ate gluten food is enough to make us ill. One of the... -
ARCHIVED Help With Constipation
ravenwoodglass replied to JustMe75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may want to give sweet potatoes a try. They work very well for me overnight, I can't say whether it will help her but it might be worth a shot. -
ARCHIVED Glucose Tolerance Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to JustMe75's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know what he is referring to with the glucose tolerance test. I do know I have had lots of them over the years though. The fasting morning sugar is a good measure. He should be doing an A1C at the same time, this measures the average blood sugar over a three month period. The morning blood sugar can be elevated if someone is ill, in that case... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Infant(13month Old) Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to 4blessings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do understand that you would rather she not have celiac but if she does finding it at her age will prevent a great deal of other life altering problems and pain down the line. Adolesence and even the 'terrible twos' can be a horrible time with an undiagnosed gluten intolerant child. You do need to know that blood tests and even endos on young children... -
ARCHIVED My Upper Endoscopy Is Today
ravenwoodglass replied to Beckula's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
YES do continue the diet after the endo, don't wait for the results. There are times when even the endo can miss us, the best way to know for sure is to do the diet for a couple of months. I hope everything goes well today. -
ARCHIVED Better Yet Still Feel Worse
ravenwoodglass replied to skinnyasparagus's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you may still be getting gluten somewhere, have you checked all meds, both script and OTC? Vitamins and supplements? Shampoos and toiletries? Are you eating what looks gluten free in restaurants without telling them they need to cook it seperately? Are you consuming dairy products? Many of us have a lot of problems with dairy until we... -

ARCHIVED Roommate Issues Pt 4
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I think this was addressed to me, I actually I live in the heart of the Finger Lakes, it is only about a 4 hour drive, 2.5 if my DS drives , to the Falls. My DS and his freinds used to do weekends in Canada between the age of 18 and 21. I have been there a couple of times and really enjoyed it. My strangest traveling story happened in Canada, way... -
ARCHIVED Roommate Issues Pt 4
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I definately envy you those fries. I live close to the border, perhaps I will have to make a few day trips. Is there a freind, teacher or relative you could borrow a cell phone from for a couple of days? Another possibility would be a loan from a battered womens shelter or perhaps even the safety office on your campus? There are also real cheap... -
ARCHIVED Pa Recommended Enterolab!
ravenwoodglass replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for posting this, I needed something to cheer me up today. What wonderful news about the PA, hopefully the majority of the med professionals will start to see it's validity as a diagnostic tool. I hope everything went well with your DD's endo and that they figure out what is going on. -
Hi Jason, Have you called the GI doctor to ask him or his nurse? That would be the first thing to do. If this started after the endo they are going to be the best first source of information.

ARCHIVED Roommate Issues Pt 4
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Lisa, Go to the police station and tell them what you have told us. Have them accompany you back to the apartment and tell her in no uncertain terms that she is not to assalt you verbally. Got a tape recorder? Carry it and turn it on when she approaches you or put your police emergency number on speed dial on your cell phone and let the cops come in response... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream "ice Cream" Safe?
ravenwoodglass replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pacific brand Rice Milk, Hempmilk and almond milk. Wegmans has also come out with their own gluten-free rice milk, I have some vanilla waiting in my fridge to try. The hempmilk in chocolate makes great smoothies and has a very high amount of calcium and protein. I use the Rice Milk in all my cooking and over cereal. -
ARCHIVED It's Just Stress...or Fibromyalgia...or...
ravenwoodglass replied to Brattitude's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why has it not been brought up before? Because doctors are clueless about anything that is not relieved by a prescription. I suffered for almost all my life. I told doctors as a child that eating made me feel bad but only got tested for diabetes, over and over and over and over. Once I was almost dead doctors finally thought to test for celiac but because... -
ARCHIVED Does Everyone Have Testing Before Trying Diet?
ravenwoodglass replied to elmuyloco5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree completely with everything except the probability of IBS, IBS is a syndrome, that means the doctors don't know what causes it. IMHO there really is no such thing as IBS, just clueless doctors who would rather throw meds than help folks find the cause. I am glad you were able to move up the biopsy, please be sure to do the diet strictly after it... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to lizard00's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My DD went the conventional doctor gene test way, and was told she could never be celiac because she didn't have the gene. This got me to get my genes tested through enterolab, and guess what, I don't have the recognized celiac genes either. Mine would label me with RA, which has been in remission now for over 5 years. Gene testing can be helpful but it... -
ARCHIVED What Does This Mean?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lux's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The TTG is one of the most reliable tests for celiac. I do not know why the IGA is not detected but I would go with the thought that it is most likely celiac. If you choose to biopsy make sure you are on a full gluten diet until the endo, or you could do a strict try of the diet for a couple of months to see how you react to it. If you don't improve on... -
ARCHIVED How It Works
ravenwoodglass replied to ZatKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not always. I had my D and migraines stop completely within a few days. I thought it was a miracle as I had daily D for 15 years. At first I thought I might even be redeveloping C since I didn't have a movement for 3 days after I stopped gluten, I guess my body was just overjoyed. It did take another 6 months to see a notable improvement in my arthritis... -
ARCHIVED Most Frustrating Thing For Me
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One thing you need to keep in mind is that celiac has a trigger. For many it was a severe illness, like a stomach virus or bacterial infection, or even something like extreme emotional stress. You DID NOT and I repeat, YOU DID NOT BRING THIS ON. Your celiac was likely triggered by the stomach problems and then your doctor failed to recognize it. It is... -
We understand here. It can be very tough, how long ago were you diagnosed? Are you the only one in the house that is gluten free right now? I hope the doctor who diagnosed you let everyone know that they need to be tested also. If you haven't been doing the diet for very long it can take some time to heal. It can also take time to ferret out hidden...

ARCHIVED Does Everyone Have Testing Before Trying Diet?
ravenwoodglass replied to elmuyloco5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I trusted the blood tests for many years, as did my doctors. They were less than worthless in my case. I would be dead now if I had kept waiting for my bloodwork to show positive. I was finally diagnosed when I went to an allergist and he put me on an elimination diet. He saved my life, literally. In my case, and I am not alone, dietary exclusion was... -
ARCHIVED Borderline Results Again. Should I Get Biopsy?
ravenwoodglass replied to FlourShopGirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No it is not a quaranteed result, although some doctors will insist it is. The biopsies are hit and miss, you have 22 ft of small intestine and if the right area is not biopsied, or not enough are taken celiac damage can be missed. There are also things that are gluten related that the doctor may see and pronounce as your problem, like ulcers and EE that...
