  1. I never realized there was a connection to my vision problems and the celiac. My nightblindness got so bad I was afraid to drive anywhere after sunset. This came on very suddenly. I was also extremely light sensitive and that for me was also a migraine trigger. I can go outside now without shades but still don't drive at night. When I complained to my...
  2. I miss Long John Silvers battered shrimp and my Italian bread. When I moved back to my home state we drove into town at about 6 am, just when the italian bakers in town delivered all the fresh bread for the day. I ate a whole loaf myself in the space of a few blocks. I used to live off of fresh italian bread and hunks of Pecorinao Romano cheese in the...
  3. Jess, I am glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. I agree that getting another dog is a good idea. I am also glad to hear you are looking for a dog who really needs someone. I was devestated a few years ago when we had to put down a dog who was healthy but bilaterally deaf and crazy. We fought it until he attacked my son. I was heartbroken but the...
  4. It is a larger mistake by conventional medicine to rely on the blood tests as a main criteria for diagnosis of celiac. IF my family had been tested for celiac disease the depression that almost cost both my and my childrens lives would have been addressed before one of us attempted suicide and one developed paranoid delusions and began cutting and one had...
  5. I am so very sorry. (((((((hugs)))))))
  6. As a celiac parent I insisted on testing for both of my children. They were both positive. After over 3 years we convinced their Dad (asymptomatic) to get tested, positive also. My Mothers family refuses to hear anything about needing to be tested though as does my DH's very obviously celiac brother. All family members of a celiac need to be tested but...
  7. It would be possible that they do. I would not take these until you have heard back from the company, it is not worth the risk. I would be very careful with tinctures also unless you can verify that the vehicle is gluten-free.
  8. I have just gotten off the phone with these folks and the carnation JR and the ready to mix are not safe, just as the chocolate malt is not. But the powder form, just the regular powder in all flavors except the choc malt are gluten-free. They are supposed to send me an email with their gluten statement soon and I will cut and paste it when it arrives....
  9. In my case, and I can only speak for myself, since the other problems resolved after an extended period gluten free with the exception of the diabetes and some residual nerve damage, and since the neurological symptoms of celiac were present but misdiagnosed or ignored since childhood, I can confidently say the other autoimmune disorders would never have...
  10. But if someone feels bad would it not stand to reason that the autoimmune action was there? Even if it never showed up in standard blood tests? I never showed up in blood tests so I did keep eating gluten for over 5 years after serious illness was present. My signature says it all.
  11. I was one who was very symptomatic but my DH was 'silent' he has experienced the same sort of thing you are. And yes we do think it is his body telling him how happy it is gluten-free and although he didn't like it in the beginning he now sees this as a positive thing. At least now he knows when he is getting CC, he didn't at first.
  12. In Memory of All those who who perished on this day 5 years ago. In honor of those left behind. May they have peace and hope.
  13. I was speaking from only my own perspective and personal experience. Every one of us is an individual and depending on our genetic makeup and length of illness will be effected to different degrees and have different systems effected. Just because one is celiac it of course does not mean that other syndromes, diseases and genetic differences are not present...
  14. Since I am one of those people who were untreated until other autoimmune diseases had taken hold I just wanted to say that at the time of my diagnosis I did not think the celiac diagnosis would help anything other than my GI symptoms. I was not expecting my other 'diseases and syndromes' to dissapear. It took a long time for complete resolution of other...
  15. I hadn't read about the sugar but have read of dogs trained to detect cancer and also seizures so it makes sense. I wonder if I taste sweet when my sugar is high and that is why he licks, not that I am going into pretzel mode to check myself.
  16. Yea that was it. I know others drink it and apperantly have no problems which was why I kept saying "no it can't be' and kept drinking it. It is my typical gluten reaction though, muscles, joints, brain fog, depression, C then D today. I am very sensitive to CC though which is why I usually avoid stuff that has a risk of it. Maybe I got the box that...
  17. I had a feeling you might say that. Our children need more people like you and less like your 'freind'. I am glad you made that call. It would have been one thing if it was an adult on adult prank but involving the child showed very poor judgement on this person's part. I hope everything goes well.
  18. All in all this looks pretty good (IMHO and my not always great memory) Are you a smoker? That might account for the high normal hemoglobin and hematocrit. The one thing I found significant especially with your thinking you have a kidney infection was this: "Crystals mumerous calcium oxalates " I believe this could be indicitive of kidney...
  19. It's maddening isn't it? Mine used to blister and peel. One thought, before diagnosis I was very sensitive to the nickel in many jeans buttons and snaps. I also would get rashes from watches and rings etc. If this sounds like you one remedy for me with the jeans issue was high waisted undergarments or a small fabic patch over the metal on the inside of...
  20. In the early stages of the healing process I might have looked into this. However after 6 months to a year I had no issues, unless glutened. It would be a good idea to rule out though for folks that continue to have problems after an extended period of gluten free living.
  21. I am getting over a glutening and am (at this point) diet controled diabetic. I unwisely ignored their CYA statement and even though I started to react right away, my tummy was growling before I finished the first cup, I continued to drink it for 3 days so I got myself pretty good. I am now over the worst of it but have noticed that my BS has been higher...
  22. Where do you find gluten-free challah bread or do you make it yourself?
  23. Something that helped both my DS and I with the weight issue was Carnation Instant breakfast, powder only the ready mix is not safe and don't get the chocolate malt. My DS would have one every morning and use 2 packets instead of 1. I used to make a milkshake every night with gluten-free ice cream. If he tolerates dairy you may want to add one as a beverage...
  24. The best person to answer your endometriosis qestion is going to be your GYN, I would make an appointment. I would also do a bit of develving into whether or not you are getting CC anywhere. Did anything change in your diet or environment (does the baby eat food with wheat, do you use Johnson & Johnson baby products, those are not gluten-free, new hobby...
  25. How long have you been gluten-free? If it has not been long I would monitor my thyroid levels for a while before doing anything drastic. Untreated celiac can mess with your thyroid levels. They may stabalize on their own after your body heals sans gluten. Hopefully the new test he runs will tell you more but if it is at a subclinical level your doctor...
