  1. What blood tests were positive? Most of the celiac panel is specific to celiac and if those tests are positive you have celiac no matter what the results of the endo. You can tell them any time. Do advise them to get screened through blood work. There are celiacs that don't have the two most common genes. If that should be the case in your family using gene...
  2. Welcome. Do ask the doctor to run a full celiac panel on you when you have your appointment. Your symptoms do sound like they could be gluten related. Don't go gluten free until all celiac related tests are finished. When those are done it is a good idea to do a strict gluten free trial no matter what the results.
  3. How many biopsies did they do looking for celiac? Did they biopsy more than just the duodenum? You might want to get the rest of the report and post it. We have some folks that are good at reading those reports. Now you give the diet a strict trial. Acid reflux is not an unusual finding for folks with celiac. In my case I decided to just go gluten free and...
  4. Sounds like a good plan and by the time your appointment with the specialist comes around you may be able to cancel it. I hope you see results quickly but full healing can take some time.
  5. Glad the procedures are finished and it sounds like all went well with the GI. If you want to do an elimination diet you may want to ask for a referral to an allergist. They can test you for true allergies and set you up with a starting point for the elimination diet that will give you proper nutrition and enough calories. When you call for the appointment...
  6. Welcome to the board. Be sure to read the '101' thread at the top of the coping page. It will have lots of good info for you. It could well be that your blood sugar will stabilize gluten free. Any illness can cause our blood sugar to get wonky and there are folks that have seen pre-diabetes resolve. The fact that your A1c is only 5.3 is good and hopefully...
  7. Labeling regs for meds are different than they are for food. Unless a med is marked gluten free it is best to call the maker. If you are buying a store brand from a place with a pharmacy the pharmacist might have a list that will tell you.
  8. When you say you want to know if you need to be completely gluten free does that mean you have been gluten light? If so that will cause a false negative on testing. After all celiac related testing is done a trial of a strict gluten free diet would be a good idea. If your issues resolve you have your answer no matter what the test results have shown.
  9. No it wasn't a form of lymphoma. Was your Mom celiac? I think celiac can be associated with cancer of the lymph system but don't have any links. I don't think it is common though. I hope you get some answers soon. After your testing is done you can start a trial of the diet. Do be sure to read the celiac 101 thread at the top of the coping page. It will...
  10. " Why do people brush it off like, "oh, no that is not your problem" because people with that problem are not that "sick". Are you guys "that sick", did you have these issues?" My jaw literally dropped when I read this. If you read my signature it will be easy to see why! Perhaps these folks are talking about people that are celiac and already on the...
  11. Try not to worry too much. I have had this happen and the ultrasound ended up showing everything was fine. Sending positive thought your way that your exam will also end up being okay.
  12. I haven't heard of that either. Are you using the refillable K-cups with just plain coffee? I could see some of the flavored ones maybe not being safe for us but don't use them myself so don't know. You could try dropping the K-cups for a while and see if the problem is still there with just regular coffee made the old fashioned way.
  13. Regular breads have yeast in them. Tortillas do not. Perhaps you have a yeast issue? You could try a quick bread which uses baking soda or powder and see if you get the same problem as with regular wheat loaves.
  14. If you had these symptoms pre-diagnosis and they resolved and then came back after you got glutened then these issues are likely to be celiac related. For some of us gluten impacts the nervous system. Do have your regular GP check your B12 levels as the tingling and numbness can be related to low B12. It can take some of us weeks to recover from a glutening...
  15. White glue, wallpaper paste, some drywall compounds and spakle (drywall itself is usually fine) if you are working on your house. They are not a problem already applied.
  16. This product contains both dairy and soy. Some of us can have problems with one or both of these until we have healed. If the product bothers your system whether it is gluten free or not it is a good idea to drop it for a bit. Do make sure you tolerate whatever you mixed it with or put it on also. In the beginning it can be helpful to keep a food and symptom...
  17. Great news. Glad to hear everything worked out. I hope he gets charged with postal fraud.
  18. I think what you are referring to is what is called the 'honeymoon period'. It is the reason doctors used to think that kids could 'outgrow' celiac. They now know that although it can take time for antibodies to build back up damage is still being done. It is not a remission it is more like someone is a 'silent celiac' for a while but symptoms will return...
  19. I don't think a mask is going to be enough. Plus having worn them myself at times they are uncomfortable and unless they are respirators air does leak around them. I baked for a living for a short time and know that you are likely covered in flour by the end of the day. If you really love baking and there isn't a gluten free bakery that is hiring near you...
  20. Those tests are very good and very specific to celiac. I hope the doctor's suggestion works. It is frustrating when we continue to have problems and I hope these clear up soon for you.
  21. You had positive blood work so you have celiac no matter what genes you carry. Gene testing is really a pretty new science and they are learning more every day. While most doctors only test for DQ2 or DQ8 it is possible to have firmly diagnosed celiac without either of those two genes. You could also have something else going on of course including possible...
  22. Welcome to the board. I also read your other post and you do seem to have what could be celiac related symptoms. It sounds like your doctor has ruled out at least a couple things like your gallbladder and pancreas. The bad news is that to be tested for celiac you do need to be eating gluten. It sounds like you have been gluten free or light for a while so...
  23. When I did an allergist guided elimination diet he wanted me to be symptom free for 2 weeks before I added anything back. When you have been feeling better for a bit try adding it back but IMHO you should only go with coffee you make at home and go with black or just milk at first. You don't want to think you are reacting to coffee if you are really reacting...
  24. That was my experience and I think for the reason you stated. When I first was diagnosed DH was the first indication I had been glutened. As time went by it became the last. After a few years I also will get just one or two small blisters rather than the large patches effected before.
  25. Or he has a large family of undiagnosed celiacs and needs to add a lot of bathrooms, fast. That's almost as embarrassing as the poor guy in my town who got arrested for stealing lice shampoo. The local paper never says what people get arrested for shop-lifting but they did that time.
