ARCHIVED Place To Check For Meds
ravenwoodglass replied to Dianemh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Another option is to call the maker of the drug directly. Drugs under patent cannot change the binders but if a drug is a generic the binders can change at any time. I have even had one instance where the name brand of a drug was not safe but the generic was safe. You can get the name of the maker from the pharmacist before you accept the script since drugs... -
ARCHIVED Seronegative; What Should I Tell My Gastroenterologist?
ravenwoodglass replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you only had the IGA tests did they run a total IGA on you? You may be IGA deficient and if that is the case it would cause a false negative on the IGA Celiac tests. If all they did was run that one test you should ask your doctor to run a full panel. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Depression
ravenwoodglass replied to ABQ-Celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds to me like you may be getting glutened some where or perhaps reacting to one of your 'safe' foods. Do you have a significant other that consumes gluten? If so do they brush their teeth well before kissing? Do you have pets that eat gluten food? Do you work around gluten? Do crafts with products that may contain gluten? Have you had your antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Contamination Anxiety- Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to afitgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is true that we can have a very wide variety of sensitivities to small amounts of gluten and do have to do what we need to do for us to respect our own sensitivity level. My issue is with studies like the one you wrote of above. It seems so many studies only concentrate on the damage that may be done to our intestines. Researchers seem to totally ignore... -
ARCHIVED Recoving Quikly After Eating Contaminated gluten-free Food
ravenwoodglass replied to Currantbun's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
gluten-free I was thinking the same thing. The tight throat concerns me. It is possible to have both celiac and an allergy. OP you need to mention this to your doctor as allergic reactions can go from annoying to deadly with no warning. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Work With This?
ravenwoodglass replied to SoLacey's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I first went gluten free I thought there were issues with Glutino crackers also. However it turned out that I was intolerant to one of the ingredients. Perhaps you have an additional intolerance? I trust this companies products and I am very sensitive. OP It will get easier. I know that doesn't help right now but if you may want to consider eating...- 18 replies

ARCHIVED Vertigo/peripheral Neuropathy
ravenwoodglass replied to dama444's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you never had these type of symptoms prediagnosis you should strongly consider heading to your regular doctor. ERs can only check for so much and your GP can give you a full workup and a referral to a specialist if needed. As another poster stated not everything is gluten related. This needs to be checked out, IMHO. I hope your feeling better soon and... -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Daughter Not Growing
ravenwoodglass replied to Stardustine's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No I agree with you that is definately not okay. Could you post what tests were run along with the results and reference ranges. Children as young as yours do tend to have higher false negative tests, if memory serves me. Don't know if that could be the case for her. Can you get a second opinion? Have you talked to her ped about the possibility of getting... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Found Anything That Helps With Memory Retrieval?
ravenwoodglass replied to Blu-1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We were talking about memory issues. Something very serious and distressing to those of us who have neuro issues from gluten. My aphasia got so bad I had a hard time even holding a conversation and couldn't tell you what a fork was if you held it up in front of me. It was the most frightening symptom of celiac I had and greatly impacted my ability to even... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Found Anything That Helps With Memory Retrieval?
ravenwoodglass replied to Blu-1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was also strongly impacted in that area. At one point I thought I might even be developing some form of alzheimers. It did resolve for the most part but it did take a long time. I found sublingual B12 to be helpful and used to play some of the memory games that can be played for free on the internet. Sorry but I can't remember the names of the sites but... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Possibility Of More Than One Skin Conditon Occuring With Dh?
ravenwoodglass replied to Deano12's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes you could have more than on condition at a time. Have you seen a dermatologist? If not it would be a good idea. Do make sure your doctor is doing regular liver panels on you while you are on the dapsone. Some doctors don't realize those need to done. Do stay very light on iodized salt as iodine will help keep the DH active. It can take a while for the... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Eat?!?
ravenwoodglass replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your body may not be ready to handle alcohol yet or you could have been glutened by something you consumed up to a couple days ago. I hope it is one of those two things and not your gallbladder or something else more serious. Hope your feeling better today. -
ARCHIVED Am I Highly Sensitive? When Will I Feel Better?
ravenwoodglass replied to Kias4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Drop the gluten free oats for bit and see if that helps. There are some of us who don't tolerate even certified gluten-free oats. -
ARCHIVED Am I Highly Sensitive? When Will I Feel Better?
ravenwoodglass replied to Kias4's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Beth get that gluten-free cat food now and mix it in decreasing amounts with the food your cat's usually eat. That will make the transition to the new food easier on the kitty and prevent any tummy upset or hunger strikes by your kitty. -
ARCHIVED Oh Joy! 2 Part Vent: 1) Kitchen Helpers; 2) Bread That Sucks
ravenwoodglass replied to MsQuel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know that bread of which you speak. It is soooo very awful IMHO. Someone must like it though or they would have stopped making it. Do try UDI's it is much more like gluten bread texture wise and tastes okay. Grainless Baker makes french bread loaves that I like to use for burgers or sometimes I just make a meal of a loaf and some good cheese. I hope... -
Welcome to the board. I have used Garneir Nutritionesse (not sure I got the spelling correct) and have also used Herbatint. You may want to do a board search for other brands. I don't know why this topic got moved and hope you get other replies and are able to find your post.

ARCHIVED Glutened Myself Bad, Any Tips On Surviving?!?
ravenwoodglass replied to ezgoindude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear that so far at least you aren't in a lot of pain. If you are still traveling you could try some Immodium tablets to stop the D. If you are back home and can do so you might want to just let the D run it's course. Drink plenty of fluids and try to eat stuff you know you tolerate well. I hope the trip otherwise was fun and that you recover soon... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Lotion
ravenwoodglass replied to knomad's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The first thing I would advise is to stop eating out for a bit and see if that makes a difference. If you have doubts about your lotion invest in some disposable gloves, non-powdered, to apply it or wash your hands really well afterwards. Lotions are designed to leave a residue to hold moisture in and will leave a residue that could possibly be transfered... -
ARCHIVED Wegmans Food Labels Are Confusing Me
ravenwoodglass replied to user001's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They don't mail out the Nature's Marketplace mag that I know of although I do sometimes get their other general mag but I think that goes out quarterly. I pick up the Nature's Marketplace mag in the organic/gluten free ('Nature's Marketplace') section of the store. -
ARCHIVED Wegmans Food Labels Are Confusing Me
ravenwoodglass replied to user001's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The best way for you to get an answer is to call 1-800-wegmans. They are one of the best companies IMHO around. I once, for example, called about some peanuts that had the gluten free label on one size but not another. I was told it was because of risk of CC with the can that didn't have the circle G on it. I believe that some family members of the Wegman... -
ARCHIVED Problems Galore, Doctors Opinions & Finding The Problem
ravenwoodglass replied to Emirii's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry you are going through so much. It does sound like you may be celiac. If your blood tests come back positive it is really your decision whether to have the endo or not. Talk to your doctor about your concerns about the cost of the procedure. Doctors don't always know what a persons copay is or whether they have met their deductable. He may be willing... -
ARCHIVED Suffering In School
ravenwoodglass replied to aidan-802's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you talked to your doctor? The neurological effects of celiac are becoming more well know by doctors and he/she may be able to help you get the finals rescheduled for a later date or let you retake them if you do poorly. The doctor may also be able to get you in sooner for the biopsy so you can start the diet sooner. Call the office and ask to speak...- 8 replies

ARCHIVED Confusing Diagnosis, Would Appreciate Your Opinion!
ravenwoodglass replied to lasvegas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry you are having such a rough time. You mention that your wife still eats gluten. Do you prepare both gluten and gluten free foods in the same kitchen? If so be sure that you have read the 'Newbie 101' [found at the top in the Coping section] on all that needs to be done to keep you safe in a shared kitchen. Things like a new toaster, not sharing condiments... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Done - Don't Understand Report
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisalee1211's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope your biopsy results give you a clear answer. I can't tell you much about the preliminary findings but since you had positive blood work even if the biopsy results are negative you need to give the diet a good strict go and you can start now. Your body may give you the answer before you even get the results back. Damage can be patchy and get missed... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Huge Issue?
ravenwoodglass replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are diagnosed. You had positive blood work and good results from the diet. Your doctor has told you that you have celiac. If you develop new issues of course get them checked out. Since your blood work was positive your doctor can recheck it to see if your levels are lower or into normal ranges now that you have been gluten-free for a bit and healed...
